Yes colleague, that is the idea of this post, to present new ideas on how to improve the units of the European factions since they are the most marginalized by having so many generic and shared units, so far only the Russians and the Ottomans have their own identity As a faction, which is why they feel more original, the other European factions feel almost the same as each other, Honestly there is not much difference between the units because they are shared and repeated.
there may potentially be a reason why there are shared units on the continent that used the same names for military and identical weapons and tactics, but I’m no historian.
The Mexican Soldado is a musketeer just like the European musketeer with the difference that he throws grenades but his function as a musketeer remains the same just as the Insurgente has the same function as the European pikeman, so if the appearance of the unit is different but it still has the same function what is the problem with having units with different appearance which share the same functions, another example is with the new Russian and Ottoman units that are different but work the same as the other units in the game, honestly it is strange see in the game civilizations with unique units and others that do not, I think that the same treatment should be given to Spain, England, Holland, Germany, France and Portugal as it was given to Russia, the Ottomans and the American civilizations and African which do have unique units and have deeper mechanics
And every time they do this they make every “new” unit the best version of whatever unit type so far.
Let’s hope that the developers fix the balance of the units and the game in general, I am also against having broken units, but I am also in favor of improving the game in any visual and quality of life aspect
Out of all the possible civs, you want to take the Caravel… from the Iberian civs?
I know that both ship types were Portuguese inventions. I just think that Portugal and Spain deserve a unique ship unit and I don’t think the carrack could replace a galleon or frigate. Given that the galleon evolved from the carrack and the frigate as presented in game is an 18th century creation. I suppose the Carrack could be an early game warship, but that could upset balance.
An alternate suggestion to the Aventuiro was a Hussar replacement on another thread. They do have faster attack speed kinda like how the Ottoman Deli does
The portoguese identity in game is defence, range infantry and artillery, giving them strong melee cavalry would actually remove their identity as part of faction design is having weaknesses.
Russia is a cavalry first civ, as much as that might be confusing to some, the infantry exist really to soak damage while cossacks and cavalry archers are your better units.
For ottomans their weakness has always been a relative lag of infantry, they rely on their artillery with some support from cavalry and infantry to win esp. going into the late game.
Except Ports never had Hussars and they still get them as unit, so…
I would love the Spanish to have unique Non-Merc units.
Miquelets-strong skirmishers/strong Militia So i have 2 ideas for them the devs may decide from
Option 1 The Miquelet is the unit you can get if you send Peninsular Guerillas at age 4. Transforming your Crossbowmen into Powerful skirms. Similar to the Landwehr. however They only have faster movement speed and slightly boosted Multipliers and a bit more HP to make up for having the Archaic tag removed. Nothing else
“Option 2” - The Miquelet is a unique militia that keeps 30% of its HP. They can be summoned from the Town Center at a cooldown. Can only be accessed after sending Peninsular Guerillas. As it is an Age 4 militia. It is slightly stronger than average.
Some buffs
-Tercio Tactics can be sent twice. The one that transforms Pikemen into Rodeleros
-Archaic warfare- Also makes Rodeleros train a tiny bit faster.10% faster
-The Age 2 Hire Irish Brigadiers card becomes infinite after the church card tech is sent. but becomes more expensive.
Resources would be better expend on new DLCs
nobody trains them anyway
We don’t have to assume unique equals strong. Ports could get a cheap and weak Hussar replacement.
I’ll believe that when I see it
Or remove the caravel for everyone else giving them the carrack.
The Portuguese do not necessarily have to have strong cavalry, it is enough to give them a unique but weak cavalry which must be improved with cards from the metropolis, as I said before, giving Portugal new cavalry is more for an aesthetic and cultural issue, but it should not be misinterpret with wanting to give him a more powerful cavalry because it is not like that
but what would happen if the Portuguese light cavalry had a unique and different model which was weaker and a little cheaper than a normal husar, then probably the current panorama would change
well then the unit would have to get 3 extra new cards to eliminate those weaknesses and lower stats and also give it a charged attack, probably promotions, and also faster than light cavalry (it will stay cheaper of course)
Very good suggestions for Spain, I had thought about moving the Tercio tactics card to age 3 eliminating the old skill of converting your pikeman into rodeleros and giving a new ability to the Spanish pikemen giving them a charged pistol attack which would be recharged from every few seconds, this change would reflect the attributes much better of the Spanish Tercio that used pistols in addition to pikes in the Flanders wars
