Let’s hope that the Portuguese bring some new improvement for their units, it seems that some civilizations are being reworked so that they look more similar to what was done with the Russians and the Ottomans giving a more unique appearance to each civilization, something like that like what was the mod wars of liberty in the beginning
Yeah, I hope so as well. Though finding information about particular military forces and special weapons that could be new unique units for some of the in-game civilisations, such as the Portuguese, is proving to be a difficult task.
Maybe I will get myself a book later on about the Portuguese empire that gives better insight of their military and weapons.
I remember it took me absolutely ages to find any reference to the Portuguese using an Organ Gun, haha.
Basically it was used for a bit of base defence in North Africa in the 1500s.
Hehe, I am glad that you managed to find a reference in the end about the Portuguese actually using the Organ Gun.
I think I may just have found an interesting source that mentions about a particular heavy cavalry unit that could possibly be unique for the Portuguese. They were called “Encubertados” which meant “The Covered Ones” and they were apparently primarily active during the late 16th century and later phased out by the early 17th century.
Their most notable engagement was in the “Battle of Three Kings” (1578). But they may have participated in other battles as well such as “Battle of Pulo de Lobo”. I would greatly appreciate it if some other users could help me with digging for more information about the Encubertados.
Edit: It seems that other users have suggested before that the “Encubertado” or “Acorbetado” could be given to the Portuguese.
Ah, nice find!
Also, I love any mentions of Aventuros (which I always think are a solid pick for a Portuguese swordsman). They always come across as nobles with more money than sense, sailing off for adventure with their self-funded kit, just for fun.
