Actually they kill Hussars and do much better against Heavy Cavalry than Arbalest.

very true, but still, they don’t do all that great against cavalry as a general rule.

Ratans kill Hussars, something that Huskarls (one of the most popular and massed UUs in the game) cannot.
Imagine if they did!

Rattans are a great unit. As people said their job isn’t to counter cavalry, although they fare much better against them compared to regular archers (more attack, faster movement speed). You just need to be patient to mass them and until then you can play xbows. Mix them with halbediers in imp and you got a composition that can be quite difficult to engage against.
They have a great eco since the buff. Sure, there still are civs with better eco but it’s surely above average and very useful on every kind of map.

A thing I do not like of rattans is the frame delay, which is not very intuitive.
However, Overall, Vietnamese are perfect now. They are not a top civ, but they can play decently with almost all civs in the game.
It is never an auto gg as for Italians vs Aztecs or Turks vs Chinese.
Imo, the current weak civs should be brought on a level similar to vietmamese
