Imo there is the difference between popularity and a ranking of most played maps. In a lobby system that difference doesnât really matter but the point is it does matter in a ranked map pool system. Letâs say we look at voobly and 70% of the games played are on arabia as the most played map while nomad sits on spot nr. 2 with 10%. When you transfer that example to the DE map pool system those 70% might end up playing more standard maps besides arabia instead of nomad so, here, nomad isnât the second most popular map anymore. This is what happened in the recent votings. Most people seem to prefer open land maps.
On voobly, players could just avoid nomad while if itâs in the DE pool youâd have to spend a ban for it. And nomad has been in the pool, the playrate just wasnât high enough to keep it there long-term. Of course, itâs totally fine to ban a map like this if someone doesnât want to play it but the amount of these non-standard maps should be kept low as long as they arenât popular with the majority of the player base. Thatâs why, I guess at least, there is only megarandom from that category, atm. And it would only be fair, if nomad gets that spot the next time. But entirely fixing it as a set map doesnât seem reasonable to me while itâs not that popular (and being second or third most played map on voobly simply doesnât fit the criteria of popularity for a ranked map pool).
