Don’t believe that no one actually adressed it yet. Walkable farms would be a huge improvement and you know it
That’s totally doable in the old engine with mods; it would be easy for FE to implement.
tbh I think it should be voted on.
If you look at the screenshots the farms are now displayed as simple flat fields with no barn present. There’s no reason they would make that change unless they decided to make farms walkable - particularly since having a simple flat field not being walkable would feel wrong in-game. So I’m pretty sure walkable farms are already in.
at 0:52 of the reveal, bottom left, there is a hoplite wandering directly opposite from combat.
This would only happen if:
a. The pathfinding is worse than the original
b. the farms are not walkable and the pathfinding is taking him around the farm to get to the target
c. the person who is running the demo sent him that way
The highest possibility is b.
It’s nothing that can’t be added with enough support by the community, though.
That was the biggest issue of building them in the old game. Hopefully we can test this to see if it breaks the game or not.

In that video the farms indeed seem to be impassable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will be like that in the release. But I don’t think it’s needed to be able to walk over them as long as they can be reseeded without completely rebuilding them.
I didnt think that the farms need a walkable, its Aoe1 there you didnt can it
In aoe1 no walkable farm are very important for a protection against cavalery rush for example
Please do not make an aoe2 with aoe1 graphics
Yeah, unwalkable farms are an important defense option, in the trailer you can see how the Hoplite got stuck on the farm(As Noble said), so I think they luckily won’t be walkable.

On the other hand they have removed the barn from the farm models, which would be weird unless the model is not final or they plan to make the farms passable before release.
I like the farms from AoE1, thats the charm of it

Agreed. If they intend to keep them non-walkable then they should make the farm models look more solid, not less. Else it will just feel awkward when playing.
dont forget about 0 hp wall unwalkable too.

That way, people who want to walk over farms can, and everyone else can can play with the original mechanics.
I think to make both farm and 0hp constructions walkable (e.g. walls) I think it would be necessary to add gates to the game… I think AoE DE should stay without gates, and 0hp constructions and farms should be unwalkable. Why? Because of choke points strategy where one’d quick place walls or even farms to funnel in troops or fake an impassable area. The was a whole thing about farms, walls and houses to control unit movement.

I don’t think that’s a great idea. It would fragment the player base. If you want to play AoE2, you can play AoE2 right now.

Seconded. Though there’s also a middle ground option: a 4x4 walkable farm with a 1x1 (or 2x2, or 1x2…) non-walkable barn placed somewhere inside. What do you think?
if farms stay unwalkable, at least remove the building restriction so you can place the farm in the spot you want, even if your half-wit villagers is standing in the way.
