Dear Age 2 DE,
Is it possible to upgrade the wall which allow Archery or military units stand over the Walls. That would make AGE2DE the best game ever.
Thanks

I don’t think the engine would allow that, garrisoning units in it would be more limited than anything that looks good…
Sad (as they could easily get +1 attack and range as well as some ranged protection from the main direction of the wall, to make it realistic)
Yeah, you just don’t get the same feel or excitement on the defending side as you do on the attacking side. It would be really cool if the walls were like they are in the Stronghold series.
On the other hand, this may make defence too strong. Usually the attacker had to be several times the defender’s numbers to win, otherwise the siege was pointless.
Sure it would make amazing campaigns but it would be very unbalanced for multiplayer, with the meta being holding the enemy army on your walls with a fraction of yours, while your cavalry sweep them from behind. I don’t know how it’s managed in Stronghold though.
Unlike in a TW when you can reasonably time a siege to have a few turns before the bulk of the enemy army arrives, while in turn making sure a reduced garrison should hold out for some time.
I’m almost certain it wouldn’t break multiplayer balance.
These walls could potentially give a second chance to a player who had a rough Feudal Age. The only impact I see is that games would be less likely to end in Feudal or early Castle Age.
But since resources are still limited, and Trebuchets and Bombard Cannons would still outrange them, they wouldn’t be as strong in Imperial Age as they are in Castle Age.
It depends on how strong the bonus on walls is, but if you aim for realism… it can be brutal.
Anyway the big question is whether it’s possible on the engine, before asking if it should be done.
We talked a little about garrison units in wall pieces, if you want to check it out.
Yeah, sadly, we’ll most likely never see Stronghold-style fortifications and walls in AoE2.
It would be another infantry buff that could be used on top of walls, both offensively and defensively.
It would mean that a single wall unit can garrison units, e.g. just 1 archer or skirmisher, not more. Sounds good.
I mean change the wall design to make it wider like age4 then when units garrison they can walk on the wall
