Remove the build limits and re-balance the game. The game needs constant re-balancing anyways, if it’s anything like AoE2:DE. Add new civs? Rebalance. Increase infantry HP for a civ? Rebalance. New META? Rebalance. Removing build limits would just require another rebalance. Everyone seems to love constant rebalances anyways (at least over in AoE2 land they do), so it’s nothing too extraordinary to consider.
Collection points rock and are part of the AoE DNA.
GoPro cams from non-player objects and non-movable characters are no fun. It’s like the game provides you free “spies” tech. Should be removed from game. If GoPro cams for these need to be part of the game, it should be in the third age and cost at least 2000 gold + 2000 food
Structures and walls go down from the gentle swirl of air formed when a Grenadier blinks. Definitely made of cardboard
Train LoS = spies. See my 3rd bulletpoint
Oh well, the OP wanted opinions to know what would bring more players to AoE3:DE. They didn’t ask, “How do we keep AoE3 equal to AoE3.” If more players are desired, then some drastic changes may be needed. There are many more I’d personally want to do, but I kept things pretty tame to keep the AoE3 vibe mostly intact. I’d play AoE3:DE if those changes were made. Until then, no thanks!
nations not states is the name of factions in AOE. there was certainly an understanding of what germany or italy was in the middleages.
there are other nations like poland and denmark from europe not even in the game, why prioritize splitting up existing factions and upsetting the currently established factions when we have other stuff to add?
i mean asking for south american countries is sort of the same as asking for a spain split.
The most important thing you need to do to attract new players is not ruin the game for old players.
The game is good. Many people enjoy it. Changing the core of the game (like adding drop off buildings) would make old players angry and that would have a lot of negative publicity scaring away new players.
The game has been in the process of being balanced for over a decade now. Massive changes wouldn’t be easily balanced again. It would take years until the game is balanced again.
You can’t just rebalance a game. You need to do a lot of testing and a let a lot of people play for a long time before you can make the game balanced again.
The biggest strength and weakness of AoE3 it the Home City.
It makes the game so much more interesting and diverse then all other AoE games (even AoM) but it also makes getting into the game a lot harder.
If AoE2/4 drop a new civilisation you read though the few bonuses and unique units and then you can just start playing it.
In AoE3 you probably don’t want to use the prebuild deck so you want to read though all the Home City cards and make your own deck. Then you need to play it a few times before even understanding what cards could be useful.
This is one one hand a lot of work but also a lot of fun.
One civilisation being added to AoE3 brings a lot more to the game then 4 AoE2 civilisations.
AoE3 has to simplify some things to allow other things to be more complex.
The AoE3 economy is simpler and also the unit counters are less complex.
For example Coyote Runners are just Hand Cavalry unlike AoE2 where Eagle Warriors work in a completely unique way.
Eagle Runner Knights are also just Ranged Cavalry.
Camels and Elephants are also just Cavalry.
The Holy roman empire certainly was a German empire though. Its refered to as German empire quite often as shorthand for it.
There was no Italy as a state, but there were Italians. Which is what the civ is called, it represents all Italian states. There is practically no chance it will ever be split considering how aoe3 civs are designed
This is honestly all it takes! Once people see the adverts on social media, coupled with steam/xbox sales and a biannual Microsoft &/or Redbull tourney should be perfect.
All talk of balance changes to make it more like aoe2/4 is ridiculous.
countries should be more privatized, for example, after the Ottoman civilization was reworked, many of my friends started playing because the Ottomans looked more like Turks.
I’ve wondered if it could work to make customizable architecture sets for the civs. Like when you set your manufacturing plant to have orange brick could your artillery foundry, arsenal, and factory have orange brick in-game?
This is why I talk about the proposal of removing or simplifying the home city shipment card system!
Is about making things complex, and a lot harder to get into!
Better would be to add a dropdown menu to enable or disable home city shipments I think.
What about:
The player only needs to control one hero unit and other units are auto produced, upgraded and controlled.
The defensive structures are placed by default on pre-defined locations.
Restrict the connectivity between the two sides to three separate routes.
The victory objective is simplified to destroying one enemy base building.
Simplify the cards and techs to 4-5 abilities per civ (because you are only controlling the hero, they only affect the hero) and can be used infinitely with a cooldown.
Allow more players, like 5v5.
Haha. no way my friend XD!
In fact, actually this is my fav AOE title.
Those I have written are only IDEAS, nothing more.
All I want is for AOE3 to be played by more people
