What is left to complete the world in aoe3?

Yes, Kazakhs/Tatars and Uzbeks…

Khazakhs (1465-1847)

Leader:Qasim Khan (he was an alliy of Babur against Muhammad Shaybani)

Home City:Turkestan

Uzbeks (1501-1920) (since 1785, Bukhara was islamized from a khanate to an emirate)

Leader:Shaybani Khan (he appears as antagonist in Babur campaign)

Home City:Bukhara (obviously)

The most complete way would be to circle the world and finally return to the starting point in Europe!

This would perfectly capture the meaning of the work.

Just throwing some ideas out there…

Persians and Omani

Uzbeks and Kazakhs

Burmese and Siamese (Thai)

Koreans and Vietnamese

Morrocco was originally going to be added to the African Royals anyways so…

Brazil could be a good solo DLC civilization to complete the triad of American fed civs.

Indonesia is a revolt option already but there are some provinces that could make for a good civ option like Aceh.

Where does this quote come from?

Here you go: (from the ‘Development of African Royals’ thread)

Interesting.

I guess Morroco and oman would then fit well as a DLC together.

Both heavy involved in Africa, both Arabic and both not full European/asian style.

We still need European Portugal. We do have South America Portugal.

And with Denmark not getting Revs…Norway isn’t going to happen as a rev for swedes..Basically Europe will be complete.

Would be nice to able to customise a few flags at the home City though…

What the next step is obviously Asia or back to Africa…Overhauling the whole Consulate thing for Asia is the next big step.

For Asia the one most talked about is Persia (Iran) but the Malay Sultanates (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines) would be my pick and would fit the best with the current system for Asians (provided it’s tweaked a bit). Their Consulates would include the Dutch and Spanish and they revolted many times. It would fit with AOE3 theme of empire building and colonialism. Others have requested the Maori and Hawaians…

So why not Polynesian and Malay?

Ticks many of the boxes.

was their military diverse enough to be a full civ?

I think they fit best as native settlement

I’d argue that there’s plenty of material, heck Maori double-barrelled shotgun-armed warriors alone.

Militarily, Polynesians had fierce ‘classic’ warrior types but adapted to Western weaponry pretty easily leading to some potentially cool and unique units.

Polynesians as a civ is a terrible idea, they are an incredibly diverse people group from a pretty large geographical area stretching from Rapa Nui in the East to Tuvalu in the West and from New Zealand in the South to Hawaii in the North. If you’re going to make a civ from this region, it needs to be one more specific like Hawaiians and/or Maori.

I’d love a polynesian DLC with Maori and Hawaiian civs. I think it would be interesting to re-use the same concept as in Wars of liberty. Basically, you kind of customize your warriors as you upgrade them. Thematically, this makes sense because they didn’t have a standard army until much later in the timeframe of the game. They could get access to “modern” european style units in later ages.

As one of the people involved in the design of WoL Polynesia… the design is way too clunky to be implemented for real.

Would love to give it another run for DE, but that’s basically me with all the WoL civs.

Why exactly? I think it was just fine as is, even though it’s been a while since I’ve last played this mod.

I like the “voyage” age-up system used for Polynesian civs in WoL.

It’s very limiting.

Like of course the developers can deal with some of the issues we had (like having only so many unit actions you could give your units or unit tag nonsense.) But designwise it’s super limiting because you’re basically stuck with a roster of archaic units that can only be taken in so many directions upgrades-wise.

Well, I guess it all depends on how well the devs handle this. I agree this can potentially be very limiting. However, we must not forget that many new mechanics, such as promotions, have been introduced since DE. So I think there are actually many ways to make very interesting combinations. I just made this small example here. Don’t mind the generic names:

I don’t remember exactly how it was in WOL, but I think we can agree that by age III, units should have a more clear defined role. Age IV and V would be specializations. There could also be a card or a unique upgrade allowing to completely “reset” your units, with upgrades now being instant and perhaps with a cost reduction, idk. Also, by age IV, they should get access to standard european style units (not the generic ones, of course).

Yeah exactly.

It’s super convoluted gameplaywise and probably also visually it’d be very hard to tell all the specializations.

I don’t know, it doesn’t seem more convoluted than, let’s say, Federal or African age up options. As for the visual aspect, I’d say that different weapons, hats or animations would suffice to distinguish specializations.

That’s not the only area of Asia that is left untouched
And South America is also mostly untouched, as discussed here:

The current maps are poorly thought out even compared to Asia
