What should Age of Empires IV improve?

Make bombards vs mangonels.

the pop up map is a thing in 4 too

Iā€™ve never found it, what is it called?

iā€™ll check real quick, i just know i binded it to the same key as 3 DE and yes it has a hotkey, just need to finish installing the new patch before i do anything

ok which hotkey scheme do you use, the grid panel or fully remappable?
for fully remappable its called change minimap size, in ā€œgameā€ submenu of hotkey rebinding, for grid keys its in global keys and ā€œgameā€ submenu, also called change minimap size

hereā€™s what all 3 sizes offer

Thatā€™s not half the size of the big map in 3.

So the choice is small, smaller, and smallest.

one in 3 gets really big, if i could mod that size into 4 believe i would

3 has big range, at least 4 does it better than aom retold

Itā€™s a great feature, I use it all the time. Really helps with situational awareness.

lemme drop retold in just to show what i mean

no contest honestly

retold is more polished 2 months in than aoe4 3 years in, player numbers =/= gameā€™s quality

Good one!

20 characters

Iā€™d love to have the Force Drop Off button they introduced in AoE 2 earlier this year. It makes early eco management so much better

Itā€™s a small thing but it should make it easier to manage custom scenarios in the menu, at the moment to activate them you have to fiddle around inside the skirmish mode

The matchmaking is very bad in this game. I keep getting matched up against opponents 3 leagues above me and then I get punished because I quit the game before it starts, to avoid wasting my time and my opponentā€™s. Great job.

Yes, I agreeā€¦I hope they doā€¦

Yes, I think that for now they will only focus on medieval campaigns for the base game civs and I hope that the DLCs will bring 2-3 campaigns and not just 1ā€¦ since they will not release a new DLC for AoE 4 this year, it means that the next DLC will bring 2 or 3 campaigns:

  1. Holy Roman Empire/Order of the Dragon: Frederick Barbarossa vs. the Lombard League and Saladin, Sigismund vs. Jan Zizka and the Hussites and Charles V vs. Francis I and the Schmalkaldic League (1152-1547)

  2. Ghorids/Delhi Sultanate: Rise and Fall of the Delhi Sultanate (1192-1526)

  3. Chinese/Zhu Xi Legacy: Song and Ming (1127-1424)

Would it be possible to add some kind of indicator to show what a byzantine player has researched for their mercenaries?

Abbasid/Ayyubid house of wisdom doesnā€™t explicitly tell you what they have aged up with, but there is a visual indicator on the building to show which wing is under construction/has been built. In Ayyubids case, you donā€™t even know which of the two wings they are going for just by looking at the building, so itā€™s not like we need to have an obvious tooltip. Maybe flags or civilization specific doodads get placed when they finish the contract?

Really anything to show which mercenary contract theyā€™ve gone with would be nice.

At the moment I have to guess based off of which resources/landmarks they are going for, or wait until I see which mercenaries have been built. Basically, this gives Byzantine an advantage in early feudal that many other civs do not have. Information is very powerful at that point since it decides how a player will plan their response.

Some more cosmetic options apart from Banner, Icon and Monument, like the Home City in AoE 3.

FIX THE DAMN MATCHMAKING
90% of the time iā€™m matched up against conqā€™ player in 2vs2. My team mate and I are barely diamond one and we are almost always playing against conq player and being destroyed. Everybody loose his time. Iā€™ve never seen a game with a matchmaking that bad

A hotkey to select injured units.
