Consequently, a modern, up-to-date AI would be absolutely crucial. DLCs alone will eventually cease to be sufficient—at least if they genuinely intend to keep the game running for the long haul.
Eventually, a point is reached where a game like this simply stops being perceived as current if its AI hails from the digital Stone Age.
This starts with annoying little details—such as pathfinding issues—and extends to all the other mechanics that are even more central to the overall player experience.
In 2026, for instance, an AI should intuitively be capable of training units or constructing buildings that are “foreign” to it—i.e., those belonging to other factions. Furthermore, that mindless “working through” of build orders—solely to wear down the opponent with relentless waves consisting of no more than three different unit types—is, quite simply, just plain stupid. In 2026, this approach is neither cool nor justifiable anymore—certainly not if one claims to be keeping the game up to date.
Much as I love new content, I consider this to be the most urgent area in need of improvement.

Yes, that’s why I say it…look, since the 5th anniversary of 2DE in 2024, they started going overboard with the DLCs (VaV was heavily criticized for being simple Workshop scenarios, 3K was controversial and criticized for its theme and being a mess in general, TLC was also criticized, but because it moves away from the “medieval” orbit and into the “colonial” orbit, like a certain game that FE pretends is dead)…that’s why I think they should have put a stop to it in 2024 after VaV and at least focus on Chronicles and the other Age of Empires games along with Retold…

Well I just pointed mainly at things that were missing and that were cool, but also biased I know I know.
I can add Swiss to my list, and… One thing that would change my life … ZOOMING OPTION ON THE MINIMAP PLEASE ! ESPECIALLY IN EDITOR … Ludicris map are a nightmare to navigate onto with the small minimap display on the editor.
Fortified Palissade Gate… They’re missing to the game. (yeah I know, it’s an editor feature, but it could be time for them to become a civ-specific upgrade of the palissades !)
