weeeeell… the new DLC didn’t even manage to pass 50% positive reviews on steam, and even then many of the positive reviews are just “better than 3K”. Not exactly “done right”
we are kinda getting here now.
Still one month to go.
maybe adding Regional unit skin like aoe4 ??
Yes, I think that could happen sometime around 2029 when the 2DE is in its final stages…
I think most the expectations of OP was unrealistic to begin with.
Many predicted the death of AoE2 before; all of them have been wrong. Yet you keep prophesizing about the end in 2029.
Well, at some point they’ll stop releasing DLCs, right?.. I thought they were going to stop in 2024, but they kept going, so I see they’re going to keep milking it until at least 2029…
Even without a single dlc the game wil be fine for a decade.
You were wrong before, so why even go into making a prediction like that again. And please stop stating your predictions as facts. In first part it seemed like the devs may have confessed somewhere that Aoe2 will be in its last stage in 2029, which is false.
- Frank buff.
- Non-Frank Paladins capped at 160 HP, with other heavy cavalry adjusted to match.
- Toggleable regional skins.
- Units able to deal blast damage without 100% accuracy.
Are Franks that so much nerfed
That you request a buff and indirect buffs?
I don’t need to request a buff; I can already make a mod for this.
It would make things easier, though, if they fixed the Franks.
Aside from all the visual aspects—which I always wish for anyway, and where even small improvements make me happy—my second major wish would be a contemporary, reasonably modern AI.
One capable of handling changing parameters, rather than just mindlessly spamming buildings and units across the map in a bid to ultimately win through sheer, mindless attrition.
That would be cool. Sure, you can write your own scripts, but unfortunately, I don’t have a clue how to do that.
But script-writing aside, the AI really ought to move with the times more, simply to help keep the game relevant on the market.
AI feels more predictable and worse in Arena than Arabia also.
any expectations turned out to be unrealistic as we have been getting one disappointment after another
aoe2 as it was has died. it has been replaced by whatever this is.
yes, better AI would be a great addition. Or maybe even one that’s more customizable. eg different sliders for overall difficulty, aggression, unit compositions, skill at walling, skill at unit management, skill at eco management etc
What else are they going to do after 2029?.. They’re not going to be updating AoE 2 forever; at some point, the support ends… it’s the way of things…![]()
you claimed without evidence that:
they’re going to keep milking it until at least 2029
they might stop way earlier than that.

They just recently ported the game to Xbox PS5 and MacOS. They wouldn’t do this if they plan to drop support in 3 years.
Aoe2 is the cash cow of the franchise. Africa alone has potential for 4 DLCs, then there are the Balkan and skandinavia in Europe, a middle eastern split, Tibet, thai and more Indian possibilities and even north America. No need to stop soon.
And the same with Chronicles. The Rome at war mod had over 33 civs and we only have 6 so far. So we could at least have 9 more DLCs, before they would need to think about new ones, which is not so difficult, because if they go a bit back in time there are Babylon, Assyria, Egypt and more.
So, I would say, we have potential for new content at least until 2035

Yes, I say 2029 because of the 10th anniversary of 2DE and the 30th anniversary of the game in general… I suppose that when they release the last DLC they’ll make a super pack with all the latest DLCs and make all those released up to 2024 free (like they did in 2024 with the first DLCs)… and then they’ll simply put AoE 2 into maintenance mode like they did with AoE 3 (some say that the devs would go back to developing AoE 3, but it’s very unlikely and at most it would be to release the Baltic DLC with a console port and that’s it)… and they’ll focus on AoE 4, AoE 5 and maybe AoMR/AoM 2…

Yes, that’s true… they’d have enough content for another 10 years, the issue would be the quality of it…
