Diversify it and do all 3. Land, air, and water.
Hmmm… trade by air sounds interesting… but that would probably require a myth unit since those are the only ones that can fly. Specific flying trade units for each mythology, just as with the land ones.
I’d like to see an earlier build of the game than we saw with AoE4 so we can help flag concerns, vote on ideas devs are considering, and generally participate in its development at least a little bit in non-closed-off rooms, before it is too far along and too late to change anything.
Getting our first glimpse of the game during a beta when everything is virtually locked in stone already would be, arguably, too late
I think this game is less at the “risk” to have issues like AoE4 because it’s a remaster of an existing game and not an entirely new game.
We can expect it to play like AoM just with better graphics, improved balance and less bugs.
Well, they say its on the way and they’ll have more news soon… After so long, I’d call this a positive development…
I hope they get rid the the way you have to gain population by building TC and TC can only be built on designated spots. Should just be 200 pop that increases normally. Build a house more pop, you can have 1 TC and max out 200 pop with your houses
What if the news is that the beta is next month and the game launches in March or April? Too late to have any impact feedback-wise. Everything will be locked down From population cap #, to zoom level, to UI icon choices, to audio, and gameplay… if the game is around the corner when all this is shown or info revealed, then it’s too late to make changes.
True enough… But from what I’ve seen, they tend to keep the launches in October or somewhere close… So, there may be a possibility for some changes… Alternatively, they could make certain changes with patches after release depending on what the players want… as has been the case with AoE IV and the other games.
Right on. I mean, there’s a chance the game will be perfect as is for everyone. But since you bring up AoE4, I’ll mention I still haven’t purchased that due to things I experienced in the pre-launch Tech Stress/beta that haven’t changed, and things I saw post-launch that never got addressed.

Sure, you can’t please everyone, and I really don’t want them to do that. However, adding some simple options and updates to rope in some additional buyers who are on the cusp wouldn’t be too hard, but it hasn’t been done yet after more than three years since launch.
Based on past forum threads, I’m not the only one who wants to zoom a lot farther out (not just the very very minor tweaks they did in patches), have revamped UI icons, and a much higher pop limit. At a more nitpicky level that not as many would care for would probably be: better graphics (like improving the generic postage-stamped ground texture under water, as one example), less chatty units, a viewport camera lens/angle option like AoE2. All of this built into the game, not modded in by modders that can break in every patch.
Keep in mind, I said ‘options’. I’m not suggesting that they force any of this on everyone. I also said for “single-player/unranked” games. Precious ranked games wouldn’t be touched, since that is clearly a worry for everyone.
I stopped paying attention to AoE4 updates after the first couple years didn’t bring any of these changes, so am still just waiting for a Steam Summer or Winter sale that will have the game for $5 or less before I buy – even if it’s 5 years down the road. Unless a patch comes out that has some of these (esp. the first three), then, sure, I’ll buy probably the next day.
For single player, unranked, it’s nobody’s concern except mine on if the balance will be thrown out of whack with any of these. It’s my decision. I’m a casual player who just looks to enjoy games vs. AI. I bet when AoE2 first came out in 1999 that the devs would have thought a pop cap of 500, far out zoom, and a gigantic map would lead to imbalanced gameplay. Yet here we are, in AoE4, I have a feeling they worry about balance being a problem.
What is the timestamp of this news, and why can’t I find it on Twitter? Is the information accurate?
Well… it was posted by the Age of Empires team on Instagram two days ago… in a response to a comment on the AoE II post regarding the capture of ships by Hussars. So, I’d say it is accurate. However, since it is a reply to a comment by the team, I doubt you’ll find that on Twitter/X.
You can search for Age of Empires on Instagram and go to the post I mentioned above if you want to confirm.
I understand. Thank you.
I just want to mention that they recently also created an Instagram account for Age of Mythology as previously, you only had the Twitter/X account:

Modding isn’t available in the free version. If there is an editor, I can’t find / access it.
I assume AoMR will be a lot more like AoE3DE then AoE4 since it uses the same engine and seems to be made by the same developers.
AoE3DE added extra far zoom for example.
The max pop count will likely be the same as in the original AoM. AoMR is not a new game after all.
That’s unfortunate. I couldn’t easily try that myself since I purchased the game.
I like the AoE3DE editor though. It has a bunch of nice features that I wish AoE2DE had but AoE2DE also has a few features that I’m missing in AoE3DE.
The main issue with the AoE3DE editor is how it handles home cities, something that is obviously not going to be a problem with AoMR.
Thanks Skadidesu. Good points that help reassure. Hoping for the best here
A more gritty look to the game, not so kid friendly with the vibrant colours and the lack of any blood
Iirc there was blood in AoM. I personally liked the flying purple hippo tho.
Wasn’t AoM the least gritty looking game in the series?
I’m pretty sure AoMR will be vibrant looking too.
AoE was generally never a gritty series, if you like it or not.
They game has literal hell in it though so that part won’t be so vibrant looking.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the AoM underworld in AoE3DE graphic quality.
Apparently, Ekantra the guy who made UIKantra (or whatever) was hired by Forgotten Empires back in 2022(?) so no, don’t expect an AoE4 UI. I’d expect more or less a rescaled version of the AoM UI with some small expansions, additionally with a “greasy mode” and “expanded tooltips” options.
