What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

Ok, I’ll try to make these messages more developed…

Yes, although being a mythological game, the chronology is more flexible, as I said above it would be better to have Chinese from a more correct period with the other civs (between Shang and Song)…

I think they will include the Aztecs and Incas from AoE 3 to save work, or they could rename them Olmecs and Chavin (culturally and mythologically it was the same) so that they can coexist with the Greeks and the Norse…

and Andeans the civ of South America?..

If anything Japanese are one of the most likely candidates as they are present in all other age games and Japanese culture is one of the most the popular culture in the West.

AoEO crying in a corner…

They can be Japanese like in AoE 4 and that’s it…

Add Babylonians and that’s it…the Babylonians conquered the Assyrians, who in turn had conquered Sumeria…

Yes, slow and expensive units but powerful and that lose against archers if they are infantry or cavalry if they are siege like in AoE 3…

That’s true, let’s see what they decide…

There will only be it for villagers and it will be disabled in ranked…

They are going to be the same as the EE…

Yes, I would recommend that you wait until Christmas or next summer to see how the game goes and not be disappointed…

The first dlc is going to be Tale of the Dragon that brings the reworked Chinese…we don’t know the second dlc, but it is between Aztecs or Babylonians…

Yes, at least they are going to put more things in the classic age so that it is a more useful age and not a slight step to the heroic age…

I don’t think they will reuse a single AoE3DE asset.
They even remoddelled animas and trees that they could have perfectly just taken from AoE3DE.

No not at all.
Those cultures were way way earlier and there is little evidence that they are connected with the Aztec or Inca cultures, they just happen to be in a similar area.

Babylon and Assur where essentially just 2 cities.
Both had an empire multiple times in history and both conquered the other one in multiple cases.
They are culturally very similar to each other and also see themselves as cultural successors of the Sumerians.
Most Sumerian language texts where actually written by the Babylonians.
They treated the Sumerian language similar to how Europeans treated Latin in the Middle Ages.

Babylonians and Assyrians are both descendent of the Akkadians. The Akkadians conquered the Sumerian cities and more to formed the first empire in human history.
You can replay that in one of the AoE2 RoR campaigns.

I think the new Mesopotamian pantheon can represent all 3 (Babylonians, Assyrians and Sumerians) by giving each of them a unique Major god and unique names for their Kings/Heroes.
I want to see Gilgamesh as an ingame hero for the Sumerians and I would love to see a Gilgamesh campaign.

Well, it was just an idea… most likely they will go for the easy way and add Babylonians, Aztecs and Incas to expand the “chronology” of AoM…

Yes, I know…but consider it as a historical continuity…Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians and Babylonians…

Yes, that’s fine with me… and if they run out of heroes, let them bring in Sargon of Akkad, Hammurabi and Assurbanipal…

My idea for the Mespotamians is to have a main hero called “King” that has names based on historic/Mythological kings.

The King is very different compared to the Pharao because it’s a Melee fighter that inspires soldiers and doesn’t help with the economy.
The King uses the same collapse mechanic as campaign heroes or AoE3 explorers.

Kind of a War Chief aura, right?

Pretty much exactly that.
Just a little stronger. Minor gods could add more bonuses to it with technologies.

Yeh quite like that.
Could supplement him with additional smaller heroes, similar to Greece, however theirs are tied to minor gods, almost like that Minor gods “champion”.
So each major god for Mesopotamia has a major “hero” each, as you described (Gilgamesh for Ekdu, for example), and each minor god has a specific hero with a specific talent/ability that adds another layer of strategic complexity when making the age-up minor god choice.
So in effect the Mesopotamian civ would have 12 heroes, fielding only 4 at a time. But it gives the civ more variety, player more choice, whilst also making the opponent guess at to the hero strategy that the player could employ.
Just a thought to compliment your idea, might be a terrible one

I so hope not. They made new achievements in AoE II DE from the HD version. The EE of AoM had some pretty lacklustre achievements like - win so many games with this God or defeat X number of AIs.

i saw this video regarding the god portraits and i 90% agree with him personally:
(please look at it - at least for the most part, retold team! - and please make ares younger in his new version finally)

The King of Universe (see TW Pharaoh for some idea of how they did this). The King can start as an Ensi, Lugal and finally the King of the Universe in Level 4. They can be depicted as a warrior on foot and progressively more imposing, finally on a four horse chariot with a charioteer.

I like the idea of each minor god having a unique hero.

Not sure if that would be too much but what if the hero was like Joan d Arc gaining more powers as he kills enemies.
Each new level he would get a new weapon and at the end a chariot.

Start as a villager.
Then Archer or Infantry.
Then the Hero can choose companions. Those are hero units too.
And then finally a Chariot.

Yes, it seems good to me… I hope they add more trophies and heroes like those in AoE 3 and 4…

Edit: There are new achievements for Retold…

REALLY happy btw they partly listened to guys like me who added stuff or changed this slightly to some myth units. for me a big improvement for the game and a big W. but i personally am still not 100% happy and i think want to point out why.

hydra: yes they changed hydra slightly and i think this draconic look looks better now and i love they added regeneration.
but they didn’t add poison/corrosion dmg (but this wasn’t expected at all from me and is okay) and i honestly have to say that mythological wrongly showcased scylla has the more fitting heads for a hydra in my honest opinion. … maybe there will be a mod which switches the heads around who knows. scylla should be a hyprid similar to centaurs just with a kraken body, a female torso and head that would be still not fully mythological accurate but better and give hydra the appereance of the current scylla (for land of course)

  • so its a hit and miss for me. still mostly happy

also about trolls they really hard me out partly aswell they made them bigger and let them really throw bolders which is totally awesome! - they just do this as a special (which is fine) and the dmg and collision of the bolders could be buffed a bit in my opinion. but otherwise really happy here.

i am still sad when i see some myth units like scorpian man don’t have an upgrade (yet?), scarab has a pretty lame upgrade (why not aoe dmg by death since the animations is already so dramatic) and most annoying: hel has that old upgrade for giants: frost giants get is skadi upgrade and fire giant gets a complete new visual upgrade but only for hel, not for Balder… i hope they change that too…

A good idea on paper but I think it could potentially cause noticeable lag in big games, especially in certain custom games.

I suggest two minor changes:

  • Change the voice of the Colossus unit. The voice sounds like that of an average human, it should sound more monstrous, they could simply add VFX to make it sound more metallic and deep.

  • Change the name of the Medusa unit to Gorgon. This would go well with the change they made to the unit that no longer does instakill, and technically the original Medusa is the head that Perseus carries, which can still do instakill.

  • colossus doesn’t need to talk at all in my opinion aswell as automaton. i like the voices but some screeching metal would be enough since they just look like human being which are “alive”.

  • also at first i was really surprised why nemean lion can talk now, but i think its cause to make the unit feel more special since - especially before the upgrade - it looks more like “just” a big lion.

  • a minor suggestions i personally have (sinve jormun elver finally looks way bigger and more badass now):
make fenris brood as big as chimera. the unit looks now way more badass but it could be a bit bigger with maybe a few more hitpoints.

  • i also would suggest to give the scarab an upgrade which gives it dramatic death with blood an AOE dmg attack during death.

  • scorpionman upgrade could make him Guardian of the Sand, add visually a pharaoh beard and a golden chest-armor (really like the new egypt armor pieces for human soldiers!) and give him a bit more hitpoints and dmg since he already has a strong active ability.

Pharao is a unit that’s there from the very start of the game, so making him meaningfully stronger from the beginning may not be the best idea. I can get behind the pharao benefitting from more upgrades, that could involve visual changes, getting stronger and gaining abilities as the game progresses.

Edit: Just noticed, I misread. Sorry.

if you mean me, no worries ppl do misunderstand me all the time. and i misunderstand them quite often.

Nice! Though one can only wonder how to procure the “Zeus eat town center” one.

It must be destroying a town center or winning a number of games with Zeus…
