What would you like to see in Myth Retold?

Well i cant say you are wrong but i dont think this would make gold based pantheons like egypt invincible at least they could add militia type units or better market rates with the upgrades.

Would not matter to Just gold heavy pantheons, any late game god that turtle would benefit. Unlike aoe theres no stone in aom. Gold has a dual function that its not in other aoe games. And theres myth units in aom that dont consume gold.

The food/wood unit would skew certain match ups depending on if its infantry, archer or calv. Specially on aom where god powers and timings are so strong would make some of the really easy acess and get the snowball going.

Ofc its not gonna make anything invincible, but it would bring more harm than good.

As for the market rates, its Hard to make them better. You cant go much further without having positive trade interactions for certain gods wirh relics bonus on top (that suggestion was brought on the balance server before) . You could make them Cheaper to get thou.

On a second thought, for the greeks, a four god o goddess in this case would be Athena (the minor one would be replaced by Palas, the closest one to Athena). That because of her relevance in the whole mythology

I think one minor thing that would be nice as part of some minor aesthetic overhaul is to give Regents Unique models as I feel for a unit that is meant to be used by all factions it needs a more unique look per faction even if they are modified versions of pre-esisting or unused units instead of something custom tailored.

After the Japanese DLC, I’d love to see more 4th gods for base game pantheons, new pantheons, and justice for Magumo, in that order. Mythical battles with 4th gods, of course.

I would like to see a visual update for the Greeks, Egyptians, Norse, and Atlanteans, especially in their human and myth units. This would bring them up to the same level as the Chinese and Japanese, whose designs look much more impressive and powerful.

I would also love to see the addition of more pantheons, including fan favorites like the Aztecs and Babylonians.

Also some Q&A sessions from the devs would be cool.

  • When you kill a Titan, you automatically receive a random relic in your Temple.

  • Create a type of water that has no waves — for example, I want to make a calm river, lake, or pond. No matter which type of water I choose, it has waves.

  • Wild animals like wolves need improvement or additional animations. You may have noticed that wolves stand like they’re taxidermy animal — they stay on their feet for hours. There should be an animation where the wolf sits or lies down, lasting about 6–7 seconds.Wolves Unit also need additional UnitSoundSets, because they have only one repeating sound.

  • When a villager starts chopping a tree and hits it with an axe, leaves should fall from the tree. Add a falling leaves effect/animation.

  • When my trade carts go to, for example, Player 3 and then back to the market, Player 3 should receive 1% of that gold.

  • When the Norse Gods activate Fimbulwinter, the enemy player’s food gathering speed is slowed down by 5%

  • Add an option where you can buy or earn a new statue model that stands above Settlements. For example, if you win 10 matches in a row, you get a new statue skin/model. Developers should create 10–15 different models, like Greek statues, etc.

  • Developers should create fun maps. For example, a map where two players play. Their temporary base is in the middle of the map, surrounded by very strong walls that were attacked by enemy units every 30 seconds. The enemy gets stronger and stronger. There are 50 waves, and your task is to survive all of them. Inside those walls, you have all the resources. After 10–15 waves, flying units appear. The last wave brings Titans.

  • If the wall gate has less than 50% HP, it cannot be opened until it is repaired.

  • Watch Towers should have some ground texture

  • Add a description for each AI character. When I “hover” the mouse cursor over them, a small window with the description should appear.

  • Create a simple AI chat system where you can command the AI player (Command to attack a specific player, command to send you resources, command to return to base, command to use god power at a specific place and time, command to build a mini base next to yours, command to tell it to play as a defender, attacker, etc., and so on.) A simple chat AI system where the AI player sends messages. For example, if the enemy has low resources, the AI sends a message like: “Your end is near” or “I don’t think you have any chance to stay in the game,” and so on. In situations where the AI is attacking a specific player, it sends a message to allied players like: “I’m attacking Player 3” or “Attack Player 3, my units are on their way to him,” etc. When a friendly AI player has low resources or is under attack, it should send a message like: “Please help me, I need additional resources, I’m losing the game,” or “I’m under attack, I need support!”

  • The marketing team should consider the idea of selling 3D models or toys of AoM units, or trading cards, or books that contain descriptions and images of all units — essentially, the full content of the game.

It would be great if it were either officially released or if someone made a mod to give the camera the zoom and angle changes it has in Dawn of War, especially the angle changes. I know you can do it in the editor, but it would be great if it were available in standard games.

Imagine seeing your favorite civilization so close.

Or from so high (although in reality the DoW DE camera is not as far away as the Retold one).

Please allow us to change unit formation for Norse army without having to switch to combat commands menu. Or add us an option to switch the default tab from building tab to combat tab.

You can via hotkeys if im not mistaken

I just double checked, You can’t. The hotkeys will only work if you have the combat tab open while selecting ur units. I wouldn’t mind changing tabs if the default tab was the military tab and I needed to hit another hotkey to change to building tab.

I have spread formation on Ctrl+C and it isn’t working. There are so many buttons to press in AoM Retold that I think it would really be helpful to have a seperate tab for buildings even on other pantheons. Also allowing double keyed hotkeys would be so helpful.

This is actually a nice approach!

I believe that the best QoL feature I would like to see implemented in Age of Mythology: Retold is Naval Commerce.

I frequently play on maps that heavily feature water, such as Archipelago, Islands, and Mediterranean. While fishing is useful, the lack of a dedicated trade route mechanic on the sea makes naval control feel strategically incomplete compared to land-based maps.

Implementing sea trade, perhaps by adding Trade Ships, would add a crucial economic layer to naval warfare. This is essential because controlling the sea lanes would become paramount for securing economic dominance, making naval battles more meaningful than simply protecting fishing spots.

Furthermore, it would significantly improve the long-term economic viability and fun factor of water-heavy maps, making them a true strategic alternative to purely land-based skirmishes. Given that similar naval trade mechanics exist in other successful Age of Empires titles, its inclusion here would feel like a natural and much-needed evolution for Age of Mythology.

This game is in dire need of the following:

Options for healthbars. Not only should you be able to toggle them to be on ALL the time (for enemies and allies), you should have the option to increase their size. Currently, healthbars makes it incredibly impractical for newcomers to digest what is actually going on and most players seem to rely on intuition rather than information regarding fights. Healthbars are simply too hard to see on larger resolutions too.

Better sound system. Combat in this game sounds like it is happening in slow motion in a different room. They’ve effectively copypasted the sound system from the OG game, and I strongly, STRONGLY advice to implement a similar system to what Relic did with AoE4–make combat sound like it. There are units with giant axes whose slash sounds like a fork scraping grass. The amount of dissonance sound creates in this game makes every bit of visual design and animation fall flat in its delivery. Armies should not mimic ghosts in their silent march across the map.

Better formation and pathfinding logic. Again, AoE4 is right there, use the contract money you spend on Relic to integrate better solutions from other teams rather than reuse whatever the hell is going on in AoM. It is insufficient beyond assembly of army and a final send off for a picturesque battle–hardly usable for meaningful micro, multiplayer competition. Combine this with the lack of sound to everything, and unit control just feels floaty.

I would also suggest doing something about the UI. I can tell that the same folks from the Extended Edition worked on it, and I’m just not sold on the appearance. It is overall flat, generic and feels very lacking in personality. I think bringing in the Art team would help in making it more exciting and fun.

As a player and as a Designer, I entirely agree!
The whole UI is a nightmare
They should make an update only focusing on the UI/UX of the game

There are bad use of Hierarchy, placement, sorting, ordering, and layout of text, labels, icons, navigation items, HUD, and so on and so for!

I could see “monotheism” as a tech for a possible roman civ.
Making human soldiers stronger but myth units cost more favor or something like that…

but apart from that I can not see how a “catholic civ” would fit into this game.

Tengrist pantheon, so that we can have mammoths as a unit.

Fun Fact: In Tengriism, there is a kind of mythologized memory of the disappearance of the mammoths. It is claimed that when Kaia banished Erlig to the 9th layer of the underworld, after a heavenly war; he dragged the mammoths along with him, to have livestock down there, and placed a curse that makes them freeze any time they try to escape back to the surface.

The Turkic peoples of Siberia are the ones who have the most vibrant and colorful mythology. They continue to revere the mystical spirits of Tengrism and believe in their legends to this day. Dolgans living in the Arctic region of far northern Siberia, for example, came upon mammoth carcasses during their nomadic journeys. On Earth, these species haven’t melted in almost 10,000 years. The mammoths were taken to the underworld by Erlik, the lord of the underworld, according to the Dolgans, so that they could serve him. These mammoths have always been locked in the underworld, and those who attempted to return to the surface were frozen to death and buried as punishment. The bodies of the mammoths they have encountered from time to time will be half buried and half thrown away.

Maybe a Canaanite / Semitic Pantheon with El, Baal, Asherah, Yahweh, and so on? Or if it’s too controversial, call it Abrahamic and use archangels instead of gods.

Edit: this is cool

That would basically be used to bring the Mongols from AoE 4 into AoM…
