This new DLC is great, but it is another DLC with no campaigns.
AOE3 has very few campaigns, why don’t devs add more to it?
Is it difficult? Or you believe there are very few players love campaigns?
If so, why AOE2 add many campaigns every new DLC?
In my opinion, AOE3 is lack of at least 50 campaigns.
50? I think even 2DE doesn’t have that many.
Anyway, if the devs are to be trusted, I think they said they don’t have the budget.
which kinda falls as an arguement because clearly they could do campaigns for aom retold so…
Meanwhile, AoE2 can get an expansion like Victors and Vanquished, which focuses solely on campaign scenarios. It even got a “Grand Campaign” from Chronicles: Battle for Greece.
Regardless of how many players actually like single player campaigns, AoE3 is unlikely to get new campaigns anytime soon. Most it’s getting are Historical Battles, but the Baltic Powers DLC doesn’t have any so…
Ever since the KoTM DLC, they have doing Historical Maps instead. I don’t consider those maps campaigns even if there are special objectives and mechanics for those maps. A shame because there were options available for Historical Battles. For the Italians, a Risorgimento-era conflict like the Capture of Rome where you fight the Papal States. For the Maltese, a true Great Siege of Malta battle that’s not just Breakout from the campaign.
I think one issue is what the original campaigns set up. They were all historical fiction, or sometimes basically fiction-fiction. I can imagine that is a difficult spot to build from, especially given that some of the events that would seem like good choices (like the American Revolution) are already depicted in the historical fiction. It could feel somewhat incongruous to switch from historical fiction to historical nonfiction.
I can’t imagine the reception on the rewrite of the Shadow Campaign helped either. imo the writing was pretty bad and the levels weren’t redesigned to make sense with the new story. If I remember correctly they relied heavily on subject matter experts in the rewrite, but subject matter experts aren’t necessarily going to do a good job writing fiction (btw, nothing against the subject matter experts, but maybe they were asked to do something outside their wheelhouse). There are certain “rules” in writing which are generally best followed. If memory serves I think the original story set up the protagonist to basically choose between his country and his heritage, and it wasn’t necessarily an easy choice. If I recall correctly, the rewrite basically set up the same choice only it wasn’t a hard choice, which would seem to take away from the emotional impact.
I legitimately believe it’s a technical limitation.
Yes, it’s a shame… the game could be so much better if it brought back campaigns like the old ones…
In the AoE 2 Definitive Edition and its expansions, there are 46 campaigns, excluding The Art of War, Historical Battles, Victors and Vanquished, and the removed El Dorado campaign. Several campaigns are also available in the co-op game mode, where the scenarios are modified for two players to fight as a team against the AI enemies.
Yes, exactly…
Yes, I even have several campaign options:
-
Use the multiplayer civilizations that don’t yet have campaigns (I’m already doing this with Malta in Blood, the United States and Mexico in Steel, Fire, and Shadow, and the Aztecs in China)
-
Port several campaigns from Age of Empires II to Age of Empires III (Pachacuti for the Incas, Moctezuma for the Aztecs, and Almeida for the Portuguese)
-
Create a campaign DLC: Chronicles of “Battle for Europe” (Gustavus Adolphus for the Swedes, Suleiman for the Ottomans, and Napoleon for the French)…
Yes, perhaps because there’s no campaign editor for the game…
campaign editor was built for aom retold so again, is it really a technical matter
Yes, or else production costs: designing historical campaigns requires scripts, voice acting, unique maps, and testing, which is expensive for a game with a smaller player base than AoE2.
Multiplayer priority: the active AoE3 community is more focused on competitive balance and new civilizations than on campaigns.
Community mods: the developers know that the community produces fan-made campaigns, and they prefer to leave that space open.
Age of Empires II has attracted more players because it has a lot of single-player content, not the other way around. The same rule could apply here.
I don’t think that’s the case either. Would you play anything else when it’s the best option available? (practically the only option)
If the game were to diversify between single-player and multiplayer content, as is the case in AOE-II or AOM-R, many players who were only interested in the campaigns would return, and it would attract new people interested in the game because of the period and the stories that can be told around it. For the vast majority, multiplayer is actually an alternative mode, not the standard. It’s what you do when the single-player experience starts to bore you.
So, good campaigns that manage to hook new players would indirectly enrich the online multiplayer, since only a small fraction of those people also enjoy multiplayer.
Everybody knows no one is making campaigns, that’s what this whole topic is about, don’t post slop.
Once I used the AI to ask why we don’t have campaign editor, and it found some forum post related to the metropoly management between scenarios, but I highly doubt it should be a real problem if we have the old campaigns.
A campaign editor would be a nice addition to the game, but I wonder hoy many people would use it. AoE2 has a lot of custom campaigns, but in a similar editor like AoE3, AoM, how many?
Yes, that’s true…but it is what it is…
Hey, I’m editing the campaigns in the editor to learn how to make new campaigns… but it’s a bit complex with the cinematics…![]()
I know Troteck makes very good scenarios…
Oh there’s a lot of much more bizarre errors than that. Trust me.
Like you couldn’t load unit portraits for dialogues either.
I wish a Story Mode campaign based in Africa was made.
I completely agree, I love aoe 3 but when campaigns are done and the historical battles I will have to move on as I don’t do multiplayer
Even in the Baltic Powers announcements and posts on their website they talked about the history of the civs and it told a great story that leaves me wanting to actually experience it through an actual campaign
They could simply create a new menu option for historical campaigns rather than changing to much with the current layout.
I’ve brought the dlc to support the game and like how they have changed things or fixed things in the game so with all the work done surely now they have a platform to work from and use the knowledge out of aim and apply that to aoe 3 with campaigns. After all aom retold has excellent campaigns.
OK,I said 50 campaigns in fact means 50 missions (scenarios). AOE2 has 46 campaigns but each one contains several missions so finally it has hundreds of missions. I just want another 50 missions for AOE3.
We have the French as a civilization with a Napoleon Personality Ai for them so we should have had a Napoleon campaign long ago it’s insane we never got one with how famous he is and the game taking place within that time period.
If they make a DLC with Napoleon campaign that allows for all missions to be played in single player and co-op playable as well as some new regular maps from places that Napoleon’s forces fought at during the Napoleon Wars I would easily pre-order that DLC.
Act 1: Morocco (1578-1591): A young warrior, Ahmed al-Mansur, and his brother, Sultan Abd al-Malik, fight against the powerful King of Portugal, Sebastian I, and his puppet ally. Will they be able to defeat them, or will they be swept away by the technological superiority of gunpowder?
Act 2: Hausaland (1804-1810): The elderly scholar, Usman Dan Fodio, has grown weary of the corruption of the Hausa kingdoms and has decided to launch a jihad to end them and liberate his people by uniting them in a great caliphate. Will he succeed, or will his faith lead him to ruin?
Act 3: Ethiopia (1855-1868): After a century of divisions, warlord Kassa Hailu seeks to end this by defeating the other warlords. Will he be able to defeat them and lead Ethiopia into modernity, or will his charisma not be enough?
Yes, the campaigns of Christian IV (1611-1648) and Jan Sobieski (1648-1683) would be great…
Yes, at most 10 campaigns with 5 missions each…
Yes, and if not, I’ll do it myself and that’s it…![]()
It’s because the game was focused on colonization and not european wars.
