Good gravy, no. They announced it, devs have gone on record describing a couple mechanics in ESOC tourneys, and it would just be bad business. The DLC is coming.
Iām a bit behind on watching the tournaments, what do we know from there? Also do we know when during the recordings those discussions generally happened? I usually skip to the games but would be interested.
Yeah, itās all on the ESOC twitch channel recording. ESOC WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS - RO8 - Bo7 Risi vs Lionheart, JulianK vs Ungurs - Special Guest: Tilanus!
- Twitch.
I donāt remember the timestamp itās at
DLC discussion starts at 1:59:21
Im also surprised nobody made a forum post about the mechanics to start discussing them⦠But at the same i was also too lazy to do it xD
If i remember correctlyā¦
Denmark:
-shipments make them rich
-mechanics like we see in oldenburg minor civ
-higher buildlimit of ships(?)
Poland-Lithuania:
-multiethnic empire
-cav focus
ā smth smth ācav banner armies from different ethnicitiesā; he mentioned cossacks
Sounds very interesting! Higher ship build limits could be a little op on water maps. Maybe they have a weaker but more numerous ship?
Yeah i thought the sameā¦
he said smth like ādenmark could afford a bigger fleet, than othersā, so maybe its not buildlimit, but shipcost or earlier access to big ships
I guess he also planted some missleading clues since he wants to get us discussing ^^
Perhaps this plays into it as well.
If itās something like 100w 100c with each shipment (like Spain gold as a civ bonus) it could just be that the extra income makes ship building easier. Something like that would seem insanely good on your first shipment, but if you start with like 300f and 100w the first shipment would basically just make you even with other Euro civs.
This sounds really interesting too. Hoping for some viable pure cavalry compositions. Maybe they could refresh Lakota to be more heavily cavalry focused. Right now theyāre kinda an infantry rush civ which is kinda sad.
Yeah, but i hope they dont overcommit on the āborrowing from other civsā part⦠having cossacks and uhlans for example would make perfect sense historically, but ingame its a bit redundant⦠on the other hand this would be very much in line with modern dlc civs like usa, mexico or malta
My guess is:
Ukraine: Cossack, maybe in the form of cossack outlaw
Lithuania: Cav archer/Lipka Tatar
Poland: Winged hussar
Prussia: Uhlan
Wildcard: some niche cav unit that ive never heared of from some small village in the carpathians⦠like meteor hammers or mounted grenadiers or tashunke prowlers
Poland-Lithuania could have a pancerny or Petyhorcy as an uhlan like cavalry.
Having watched the section, he was giving āhistorical backgroundā though I think it likely some of the info will be used to inspire mechanics.
He did mention a few smaller nations who were represented in the PLCās army, it would be cool to see some of those represented especially since many of those countries couldnāt reasonably made into full civs, and could be a stretch even as Revolutions. What is cool is it sounds like Poland will have numerous cavalry options, probably not just 2-3.
I have a feeling that the Polish civ will train cavalry not as separate units, but something like a banner army known from the Chinese civ. The following cavalry banners can be in game:
- Poland - Winged Hussars and Lisowczyk
- Napoleonic Poland - Uhlan and Polish Lancer
- Lithuania - Petyhorcy and Towarzysz
- Ukraine - Registered Cossack and Tabor
- Romania - Light Rider and Wallachian Horse Archer
- Tatars - Lipka Tatar and Tatar Archer
- Hungary - Magyar Hussar and Shock Rider
- Foreign authorship - Ruyter and Mounted Arquebusier (or Dragoon)
itād be funny if Poland is reverse Russia with the Infantry training as normal and the Cavalry training in blocks. Maybe even double down and give them unique stables with an attack as well.
Honestly i really like that idea. Give them a unique musketeer as well, the Wybraniec, maybe something similar to a poruchik as well for a pikeman/halberdier.
Edit:
Poland should have a very unique unit roster with almost entirely unique units, and Denmark should have a roster more similar to already existing European civs.
Unique ship, maybe a cavalryman and a few other units.
Nope. Nobody. Nada. Zip. Nuh-uh.
Stables should spawn cav for free and be available in age 1.
In AoE 2 Poland has a unique mace guy, right? Maybe a melee anti heavy infantry unit that deals ranged or siege damage with a mace could work (ranged or siege to simulate armor piercing vs heavy infantry).
The AOE 2 guy is the Obuch, Infantry that breaks enemy armor by 1/1 per hit, but armor can be restored once is healed.
I wish if AOE 3 Polish get Folwark as unique mill.
So like Maltese by using their tongue cards maybe?
This could be cool but I think the PLC civ could have a unique building connecting the Barracks to the Artillery Foundry - infantry and artillery were not their specialty. Artillery would be limited and without improvements. The infantry would be very archaic and weak - this would be compensated by an most powerful cavalry.
The stables would be sufficiently āuniqueā and powerful with the Cavalry Banners. I think there will be some restrictions on the availability of some of these Cavalry Banners (Age Up) - Polish and Lithuanian cavalry should be available by default.
