Which Civilization Are You Most Excited to Play?

which of the 6 civs we know most about do you think are most misunderstood by fans?

I can’t answer that

It’s really worrying when a screenshot from AoE3DE looks better than everything we’ve seen so far about Chinese buildings.

I’m excited to play with abbasids and delhi sultante and i wanted the roman empire to be eastern and western and not only western … got kinda dissapointed but im fine with it because i know its alot of work for devs

Mongols because they can move bases and will most likely have harassing and mobile units.

The HRE and the Rus are my favorites but let’s be honest we will play them all and then ultimately decide which of them is our favorite.

As long as the battles feel like they did in this brilliant scene, everything is fine for me.

The Holy Roman Empire definitely. The only civ with ā€œempireā€ on it and in a game named as Age of Empires it’s time for HRE to show the world why it got its name.

I’m most excited for Poland-Lithuania when we get them.

This battle scene is so stupidly faked it’s funny :joy:

Arrows don’t go through plate and no sain cavalry corps just charges into pikes like that hahaha

Who cares about realism in a movie… we all know in a movie is always atleast one thing which doesnt fit in the reality. Its about immersion and nothing more or less.

It is super interesting, but the Spanish Conquistadors reported that mesoamerican arrows and darts could pierce their steel armor. The quilted cotton armor of the Aztecs was actually decent defense though.

Bernal DĆaz del Castillo wrote in his memoirs ā€œWhen, therefore, the attack commenced, a real shower of arrows and stones was poured upon us; the whole ground was immediately covered with heaps of lances, whose points were provided with two edges, so very sharp that they pierced through every species of cuirass, and were particularly dangerous to the lower part of the body, which was in no way protected.ā€

DĆaz del Castillo wrote that his steel cuirass was pierced by an atl-atl dart and he was saved from serious injury only by the cotton armor he had taken to wearing underneath it. ā€œIndeed, the Spanish often took to adopting some form of the quilted cotton ichcahuipilli , sometimes paired with a Spanish cuirass but sometimes not, because of the both the protection and comfort it afforded.ā€

im a huge cavalry (soldiers on horseback to be more specific) fan xD
so the 2 civs that i really want to try out are french and rus, can’t decide whichone im more excited about yet
after that, mongols and HRE

and i think i would give english a try too, but i dont think i’d enjoy their playstyle (overly defensive as it’s been implied)

and about the last 3 civilizations, altho i appreciate their diversity and love to have them in the game because i know how creative people can be with them which leads to interesting games, i dont think i’ll be ever playing them, i’ll probably just check them a bit to see how different they are from other civs

BUT, altho we’ve gotten some description about the announced civs, we can’t be 100% sure which civs we’ll be enjoying the most unless we actually play with them

Then something is seriously wrong with the reports.
It is simply not possible

An English longbow wouldn’t do it, no way a native arrow or dart did it

If it doesn’t follow your narrative, it has to be wrong?

There’s a reason cotton armour was used. It’s light, relatively easy to produce, doesn’t rust, you’re not sweating like crazy under your armour in the tropical climate but still is an effective protection

The Spanish actually started to prefer the armour of their Native allies than their own

You’re definitely not arguing in good faith.

I find it amusing that most people want to play either the Holy Roman Empire or Mongols, 2 of the most baseline civs that are in almost all Medieval games.

Tells you a lot of what people actually expect out of a Medieval setting.

Not far behind are the Rus and Abbasids too, which just confirms the trend.

Conquistadores were known to exaggerate their enemies, because if they told the truth, they would be seen as just opportunistic murderers, and not glorious conquerors
The casualty lists prove what really happened.

I don’t find that very surprising

Could you cite a historian who supports yourposition that we should not trust their account of the injuries they themselves sustained and should trust their account of the casualties they reported?

It doesn’t fit reality, lol.

Just because a source is primary, don’t be fooled into thinking it is credible

In no way could arrows or darts pierce steel armor

When 500 men can defeat between 20k and 40k opponents in an open battlefield, that means that those 500 men are nigh impervious to what the 20k to 40k enemy could throw at them.

Otherwise, that HUGE numbers disadvantage would have granted the Aztecs victory.
