Relic went independent, had a major restructuring. Rumors have floated around about Relic not being the lead, but that comes mostly from tournament organizers having limited conversations with Relic over the last year. Nothing official to confirm that they are not the primary on developing content for IV. It’s bad for business to conceal a change like that, so I hold very little stock in those rumors.
For the franchise, AoE has two major releases in Q4 2024, AoM Retold and AoE Mobile later this month. They’ve announced DLC for AoM, nothing for any other game in the franchise… yet.
We could hear something by the end of October for other games. AoE 2 has their 25th anniversary this year, so they’ve got to have an event planned for that milestone. I don’t think it would be unreasonable to expect some form of DLC for 2 then.
For AoE IV, my prediction is nothing until at least December. I’m expecting an announcement of DLC then with release February-March. No way to know for certain, just taking what they’ve put in patch notes hinting at something big in Spring.
Obviously they are working on several co-op modes with matchmaking, graphics improvements such as higher resolution unit skins, fauna and weather effects, several campaigns and standalone scenarios, a user-friendly editor, 3 new civs and some variants. And ofc further performance optimization and better tick rate.
It seems to much content for a DLC and too much optimistic, imho. It could be a new game: improved graphic texture in 4k, wheater effects, new modes, stand alone campaigns, new Civilizations.
I don’t know. It would be Amazing but i think that the main problems were the Relic lay-offs.
I believe that season 9 and season 10 are a big preparation and restructuring of the balance for the new DLC. That’s why it took so long. They need to restructure everything.
If we’re lucky, maybe the new DLC will even bring 3 unique civilizations that will bring some kind of impact and some variants.
Another bug is the announcement of “I got prizes from season 7”, EVERY TIME i pick for multiplayer matchs, but I didn’t get the monument or the Coat of Arms of the Season 7.
If they’re not going to release the DLC yet, at least fix the BUGS that prevent you from "having fun" in this game, mainly these bugs that prevent you from even getting anything from the events, which for me don’t seem to exist because they’re a lie, YOU GET NOTHING, and there’s no answer to the same bug.
I hope they fix it, because otherwise you simply don’t want to play the game, much less participate in Ranked.
In fact, a list of the many bugs still pending investigation:
So, i’m a bit concern about AOE4. Relic is mainly focused on Coh3 and World’s Edge doesn’t have many people, as i Always said it’s a Little team (50 developers) for the all franchise.
Someone in the forum confirmed that, relic is not involved anymore its the age franchise who’s improving the game, that’s why everything is slow because they’re taking care of other stuff, that’s why it’s been improving and looking more like an age game
When you say someone, you mean someone involved in the development of the game? Or are you referring to the people who are referencing other people who are referencing anecdotes.
The important thing with talking about this is having evidence to something having happened. Until the developers are saying it, it’s just a rumor.
I do not know what you are referring to exactly, but the most recent piece of gossip about this stems from comments on a twitch stream:
The person saying this in chat is AnMagicalCow, and to an extent Lammet_AoE. I understand that they have some connections that others don’t as tournament organizers. I totally get that they have legitimacy with the community, cow is the moderator of /r/aoe4 after all. It’s just that they aren’t the people who actually handle communication for the game, and it’s being said with limited information on how or why.
Maybe they are telling the truth? For me, it’s more reasonable to suspend my belief until actual information comes out.
It’s at the very bottom, and it’s a single sentence. Truthfully, it’s because I would be shocked if they had no plans for DLC at all. I’m practically grasping at straws here.
The team is eagerly buttoning up our next patch, but we’re always keeping an eye on your feedback. We’re also turning our attention to what’s next as we plan for our Season Nine release later this year, and even more exciting offerings in Spring 2025.
