You always want games to be perfect on release, but I bet none of you have ever worked in software cause if you did, you would realize no company in the world has enough QA for unreasonable customers. The game is so much better on every level and to complain about balance and lack of features is shallow cause that isn’t what is important for a game on release. You can tell the game engine is amazing so it’s hilarious you guys comparing aoe3 and I played it for years but get real… Give them time to improve the game it’s been out for like 5 minutes. I’d rather a good game that has the ability to be improved to unparalleled levels(AOE4) than a classic which hit it’s peak long ago.
Microsoft and Relic can just delay and release the game later until the game is completely finished and have no bug to fix. For example, Paradox delayed the Royal Court DLC over a year to release, but the DLC and the following optimization proved it was a right choice. So why can’t AOE4 be released like 6 months or even 1 year later instead of released a season ago with great amount of bugs and balance disaster?

I normally would slap the first person to complain about a newly released title, but not for this game. The people complaining in this forum aren’t unreasonable customers without cause for complaint, they are people that have 60$ for a well made base game missing many of the basic features we’ve seen implemented since 1986, like color pick.

Because it’s an inferior version of AoE 2, AoE 3, AoM, and AoE O, civilizations are designed around stereotypes, plagued with bugs and unbalanced, siege reigns supreme, gets boring fast, has okayish graphics but costs 60$ as if all the mentioned faults don’t exist.
I have hope for the spring patch. If that fails, I’m dropping this game.
AoE4 is the sixth game in this franchise and is being marketed as a sequel. As such, many of us are measuring it against the previous five games. In this context, AoE4 is objectively lacking in an uncountable number of areas.
I don’t mean to say “uncountable” in some kind of hyperbolic way, either. I have literally tried to make a list of these areas and have yet to stop counting and declare the list complete.
Meanwhile, the developers themselves admit that the game is missing features. Certainly given enough time and resources, anything is possible in the long run. But history has taught us that video games, even video games in this very franchise, do not always recover from bad launches and survive to see the long run.

kinda offtpic but its sad that this is the only social media that players actually tries to improve or try to get something better from aoe 4. discord become an toxic place and reddit becomes like an echo chamber that any critic against the game is cancelled by downvotes.
True dat. If I could get a refund I would. I’m also a little angry at myself for purchasing it in the first place even though my misgivings about the game before release was only enhanced further upon playing it. I hoped the game could prove me wrong and I could at least get some enjoyment out of it.
If this is the future of the AoE franchise I want no part of it and I regret supporting it. Stupid me for buying the game all because of the name in a decaying genre that I love. A rejuvenated AoE franchise, what AoE fan doesn’t want that? But for me personally AoEIV was a major letdown.
I’ll stick with past glories in AoE3DE which thankfully is still receiving stellar monthly updates and DLC. If I had it my way I’d have them support the game for the next decade.

I was banned from Reddit after posting link about bad MM and how drophackers are ruining entire game. I have higher ELO and more games than 99,9% of playerbase in all modes. To who else should community listen? To campaign 20k rated players? They are out of reality most of them.
With due respect, they should listen to all of the playerbase. Even Single player campaign people, because having good single player content brings also more players to the game, maybe just as much as Multiplayer. I know a lot of people who play AoE games against AI and have never touched Multiplayer.
Different things ruin the game for different people. Drophacks and Matchmaking aren’t as important for me as they are for you.
Your high ELO doesn’t mean they should listen to you with special attention. Nor does other people’s lack of skill mean that their opinions don’t matter.

But for how long?
Current AoEIV single player content is for 1 week MAX not for more. AI is completely retardet and out. 20 yo games designed on stone computers like Armies of Exigo or even CoH franchise have a WAY better.
But for what is this game mainly adressed? Number one always was and it will even be in a future.
Stable and healthy multiplayer playerbase. Yet we dont have ALREADY both stable and healthy expect 1v1 (with massive drops even there but not in a bad measure)

Am never gonna listen to somebody with low elo since his balance complains are irrevelant / or to player with 10 games in 3v3/4v4 debating about teamgames. You need to look into game from all angles.
All opinions must be given attention according to their weight with regard to a certain specific area of game experience.
Generally speaking, players with a high ELO are players with the most experience playing the game and therefore have a rather good idea of what ought to be changed for the better of all players—in generally. It is better to think of high ELO as having played a lot with a serious attitude rather than simply a number denoting skill.
In the same vein, low or no ELO players are often inexperienced with the diverse functions that a game has to offer due to a lack of serious investigation through challenging multiplayer grinds, meaning they will not often be able to acertain what is actually a meaningful balance issue to take up and what is not. Of course, this game made it a little simpler for everybody to figure out things that are clearly in poor design (siege, water, Mongololols, etc.).
Regarding single player in this game, it is hard to imagine many players enjoying it due to the lack of launch content and nothing else being added since. I managed to get my Single player only friends to try Quick Match in teams and that’s all they play now. It’s less tedious than SP and less stressful than PvP in any other AoE game. I’d recommend it to everybody until more content is released for SP.
Single Player users aren’t 5% in this franchise.
They are the majority. And after seeing the lack of SP content, they left. That’s why you see such a drop in player numbers.
Other people who are unhappy are long time Age fans. Many of them know a lot about balance and civ design, but aren’t top ELO.
I don’t understand why anyone’s ideas have to be accepted only by ELO. The devs will See if the ideas or comments make sense. And they’ll decide.
Thankfully it doesn’t matter who you choose to listen to. Because I for one know that it’s not just the top players who understand what AoE is.
You mean in AoE IV? Lol for what? Same like I would play need for speed underground cause I like how is car riding in a garage tunel … its nonsense. I understand players who went trough campaign (I enjoyed it as well to some degree) but without multiplayer? I would never even be ONLY interested in such a game.
Its not single player whats the most crucial feature. Its teamgames in multiplayer cause most of people want to play with friends and have fun there. And exactly this is not allowed to them due to many things

AoE IV has (HAD) tons of potential. They lost almost all of it only in a few months thanks to laziness and incopetence in balance/fixing stuff

The balance in previous games has a lot to do with balance in this one.
The balance team of AoE4 has many people from forgotten empires who developed AoE2 and AoE3 DE.
I understand you like MP but majority of AoE4 players don’t play competitively. They play campaigns or against AI with friends or by themselves.

Lack of single player interest, I personally dislike the way the campaigns are done compared to AoE2, and the lack of a tactical pause in single player is just crippling for the casual player, when all of the pervious generations of AoE has it. Some of the unit control is very frustrating, finding out my infantry chased units across the map into the enemy base. I am very sad to have spent money on this, I wish I hadn’t.
I’m especially unhappy with this latest patch. Mainly because I play mongols primarily in 1v1. ( No I never tower rush)
The thing is that the 8k wonder is just straight up makes me lose 80% of my games now. Due to the fact that civilizations like HRE or English can turtle up if you dont rush them down. If a person knows how to counter a rush then I’m just screwed. Can’t wonder due to the prohibitive cost and then I just get walled in the late game, because well I cant build walls myself.
Walls are a huge factor and doubling the time to build stone walls was a nice touch, but honestly there should be a cap on how many walls you can put down. This patch has been the worst and the fact the devs blatantly broke 1v1 and justify by saying they’ll fix it later makes me just want to forget about playing this game.

- 1v1 is now broken due to wonder change ( no excuse to break 1v1 bc it fixed 3v3 + 4v4)
- siege is now op again bc you cant burn them down with calvary in time anymore
- REMOVED MORE MAPS wtf, no we have a super small rotation with the MOST toxic map STILL in rotation (king of hill)
- still no ability to pass on maps ( 2-3 drops before I can ever get a game going due to people auto-dropping on certain maps)
