That’s a rather fallacious argument and out of context in this discussion. The OP clearly assesses qualitative aspects of the game and his conclusion is without doubt, negative. The game is just not fun.
Now, a new title released officially under the renown Age brand, which had to show signs of life for at least a decade, was bound to sell. Especially when it bears the IV in its name, insinuating this way that it is a direct continuation of the series’ beloved mainline. Little do most people know about devs, studios and who makes what. For the old long lasting fans this IV was a promise, to pick up the torch and move it forward. It never happened.
A game can very well be subpar in its quality and capitalize on its name and on the market to be a commercial success. That in itself doesn’t have to say anything positive about the game.
I could accept that but let’s be fair, there wasn’t much of a competition to begin with.

I created a topic sharing my concerns on the campaigns when I first heard about this documentary-style approach. Turned out the result was as dull as I was imagining it in my head.
Enough with the doomer posts ffs you people are insufferable. The game is great and needs some balance patches. That’s literally it. It’s got the attention of the entire RTS community. It’s a GOOD game. Go away with your sensationalistic doomer opinions.

So just swallow the half baken game you payed more for then for an AAA game and stfu about all the issues 10 year older games arent having?
I enjoy the game my way, meaning i grind levels and do the civ masterings. If it wasnt for that I would have abadoned the game already.
RTS are mostly about pvp, and for that use aoe 4 is just garbage.
I have seen pro matches given up after 5 minutes due to the bad seed spawn. mongols facing 99% banrate in pro tournaments.
its just bad at every aspect a rts needs to have to get a healthy pvp community.
And you have to tell the dev so they can work on that asap.

The game will be patched. New civs will be added. It’s that simple. Yes there are issues but spouting DEAD GAME is not helpful nor constructive.

I see that some people are in a full denial state, but that is all rigth.
Just so people know, some players where waithing for a actual age of empire 4 game, that folow up age of empire 1 to 3.
Players where waithing for at least a napoleon war, to the early industrial eara of world war 1.
But sadly, the players got this weard game, that is a fail copy of age of empire 2, at most.
Age of empire 4 should be named age of empire 3 prequel, but even then, the game fail to reach any expectation.
If the game was sucess, the number of players would be building up and the developper would be in hell, trying to put out more server, to satisfy players demand to play the game.
So yes, the game is a total fail to folow up to the expectation of the franchise and only attracted players that where curious to play the game.

The game tried to bring in players from all across the community. I don’t blame it for that, but…
In doing so it made the OG AoE fans a little unhappy.
A lot of the features that a MUST for the AoE franchise and are already there since 1997 are missing in this 2021 game…
Yeah they will add them in later … but WHY didn’t they already ship the game with a frigging color selector in place for instance.
I am no hater of the game and I really want it to succeed. But the current product? No!

i do enjoy game very much… it will be even better when all things are fixed…
The game is nominated as “The Best Game You Suck At” for a reason. You probably have to chill and try other games. Let people enjoy Aoe4.

You have good points that need tweaking and sure there communication can be better. Its up to the devs to notice it and change it.
Siege is a bit to powerful at the moment overal and needs tweaking. You can either adjust to the meta or just stop playing for a while. I like how the game plays at the moment and will keep coming back for 1 more game a day. 
I dont agree with you that the game needs a full rework. It needs tweaking and in time the game will become better and better just like Aoe2 HD.
Not sure the game is a total fail… The numbers that are playing on steam are higher than any other Aoe game at the moment and thats not even counting the players on the Microsoft servers…
Why do u guys still compare 20 years old game with a brand new one btw? I thought AoE IV targets much much higher.
I really enjoy the game. Island maps? Awesome. Coming from starcraft where the strategy kinda the same for all maps it is very refreshing to have unique strategies on different maps. I even started to learn the names of the maps. Siege strong? Springalds are good against siege and spearmen good against springalds. So, better player wins.

The 30 day average seems likely to look quite different in a couple of weeks, though, when the early part of the last 30 days drops out of the average. AoE 4 had huge advantages in that it was able to be developed with a much newer game engine, and could be designed with many years more experience of what makes a good RTS. It should have been a hugely better game than AoE 2 DE, not a game with roughly similar player numbers a couple of months after release.
