i’d have no problem with regional skins, so long as it was client side only.
IE you can see your units however you want, but others will see the defaults.
if others were around to comment i would. but most people are asleep at this time.
and i don’t hate changes, you’ll see I’ve proposed plenty. i’m against people who say one thing and then show another. you have proven that while you say “accuracy matters” you mean it only matters to your specific civilization, and you don’t care about the rest of the civs accuracy. you want what you want and will use any argument to get it.
i wish you luck in this endeavor but i don’t think you should get your hopes up.
Mayans did not use bows and arrows as a specialty. In fact, to be an archer was considered a dishonour, only fit for peasants and some priestly classes.
Mayans in reality, were a mass-Melee focused warrior tradition, that used a wide variety of throwing weapons on the approach.
The Plumed Archer is a fantasy unit, and so is the Mayans Archer discount.
Already said Mayans are the best of among Aztecs or Incas to be made into an Archer civilization. I am not very knowledgeable about them so cannot say much. From the wiki trivia their mask “head of serpent” is accurate. Also as far as I know Yucatan was the only place in Native America where Poisoned Arrows were used.
This tells me that you don’t play multiplayer very often, so here’s a basic explanation. In 3v3 and 4v4 you have basically 2 roles: flanks (the 2 players on the side) and pockets (the 1 or 2 central players). The pockets tend to go cavalry because they are far from the enemy flanks, so they need the faster unit (which means scout opening into kts/camels/eles).
Eles, while being costly, are by far the most effective unit a pocket can make, with the only downside of being slower than a knight or a camel: the problems are that you can force the fight with such a powerful unit and that the power spike of the élite battle elephants is much more stronger and comes much earlier than paladins and imp camels, while also costing less
Then maybe you should have not bought the game.
The game is as it is, and by continuing to make demands for an Indians BE, you are also demanding for an heavy nerf to the Indians to accomodate the BE.
elite battle elephant costs 1200 food and 900 gold and takes 100 seconds to research.
to get to paladin i need to research cavalier (300 food and 300 gold and 100 seconds) and paladin (1300 food and 750 gold and 175 seconds) which means paladin takes 1600 food and 1050 gold and 275 seconds of research time
to get to Imperial Camel i need to research Heavy Camel (325 food and 365 gold and 105 seconds) and Imperial Camel (1200 food and 600 gold and 125 seconds) which means imp camel takes 1525 food and 965 gold and 230 seconds.
so you’re saving 325 food minimum, 65 gold minimum, and 130 seconds of research time, minimum. (that’s two minutes, hardly around the same time).
Battle Elephants are also cheaper units, gold wise, then Knights are, and has been shown are cheaper to upgrade overall.
so his argument was spot on. cheaper to upgrade and come out faster.
here’s the thing. other Indians disagree with you on this. some don’t want their civ nerfed. some don’t want it changed, some just want generic battle elephants with no upgrades.
so even your fellow Indians aren’t united in this ideology.
And Goths were not an Infantry civ either, they were known for mass Heavy Cavalry charges.
Medieval Celts also were not known for Siege Warfare, but Medium Cavalry raiders and extremely long Pike formations.
Samurai were also Horse archers, and only fought in Melee as a last resort, through the majority of the Middle Ages, and when they did, it was with a spear or polesword.
The Mameluke design is also whack as all hell.
The Berbers were not known for using Genitours, the Spanish and Portuguse were.
Caravels used exclusively Gunpowder weaponry for ranged attacks, not ballistae.
Medieval Spain used a lot of Crossbows, so much so that Bows were a rarity.
Well, now you know it 11.
Here lies the reason on why imho opinion indians should not have eles: they are already one of the strongest pocket civ in the game, especially on open maps like arabia. Giving them also another strong option with some bonus would make them the strongest always and by far because they have the economy to field such a powerful unit easily.
This game was never about historic realism, otherwise we wouldn’t have something like the italians who in this game are a mix of Milan, Venice and Genoa
I also do not know why they have Paladins, there should be a maximum of 5 Paladin civs in the game, but my arguments for it are for balance reasons, not accuracy.
