Again, successful games retain its most players for a long period of time and they do exist. I am not kidding…
Next, AOM Retold, just like the AOE4 did cut a lot of features.
For example, corpse-decaying effect.
When units, die, they just disappear real fast and it kills the experience of the game.
AOE2 did it well and has mods. But AOE4 and AOMR didnt give any option. Simply excluded it.
Not very consumer friendly. and many other things were taken away.
Devs have to add, not decrease existed things from the game. AOE4 is the great example of that failure and was never able to beat the old AOE2DE version of the game.
I know it wont get better until they go broke…
Tbh, that’s the only “feature” that comes to mind that Retold doesn’t have. Apart from that, they pushed the reset button from the changes done in Extended Edition (e.g. Greek Healer, extra units like Bogsveignar) to go for a fresh start.
The developers should feel very ashamed of posts like these. But they don’t care; they’re probably working on the new DLC. And soon the “passive” players will start insulting you because you’re stating the obvious.
That they sit nicely at their desk drinking coffee and starting at the ceiling until the day is over and they can go home?
Just because they did not prioritise the thing you think is important doesn’t mean they are “lazy”.
There are many bugs in the game that have to be fixed so they have to schedule all of that. Just because something takes 5 minute to fix doesn’t mean they can do it instantly if they have to do 100 other things that also take 5 minutes first. And that doesn’t even include all the time that it makes to make a new patch and then ship it to the users on multiple different platforms.
And then this post was made on a public holiday. Maybe the poster doesn’t live in a Christian country but I don’t think the studio was even open between Christmas and New Years.
Oh and the post was made by someone that is bored according to their name.
What is your goal by insulting the developers of the game you want to play?
You think they suddenly start working hard because you insulted them or are do you just have anger management issues?
They should enhance support for the game through regular, transparent updates. This approach gives players something to anticipate, such as the Immortal Pillars expansion. Providing a realistic timeline instead of vague terms like “soon” would be beneficial.
Additionally, they could implement a release schedule, planning to introduce a new god every quarter. This way, the community knows there will be new gameplay options regularly. Alternatively, releasing minor gods with unique powers every couple of months could demonstrate a commitment to evolving the game, which would help retain players.
Ongoing support will encourage user engagement, and while maintaining game balance is challenging, it is achievable, as demonstrated by other games.
Age of Mythology has the potential to compete with any RTS, but the Retold version feels like just an enhanced edition of the classic game, failing to engage both veterans and casual players in the long term.
It should be approached like a live service, or at least partially, without requiring a monthly subscription.
Yes there are many bugs in the game, you are right about that. So you are saying they started with the hard to fix things and the easy to fix things are being left for last? Gimme a break. What did they fix exactly? Can’t see one bug in AOTG that got fixed. I go in check a few bugs and log out when i see they are still there for about a month and a half. None of the bugs that are easy to fix are getting fixed. Haven’t played the game in over a month and a half. Maybe you can tell me what they have been working on, i can tell you only what they haven’t been working on and that is easy to fix bugs. I don’t care about the bug i posted because A i could fix it myself and B i have not bought the Freyr DLC. There is also a mod to fix that out for at least a month. That is just as i said, my favorite example to give. As for the post being made between Chritmas and New Years, i do live in a Christian country, i personally worked between Christmas and new Years but that’s neither here nor there and i give 0 Fs at this point if they read it or not. I’ve been posting bug reports on steam since day 1 of the game being launched, i’ve filled out their survey, nothing has been fixed. Let me check the first bug i reported which was a few days (maybe a week) after release. Ah ofc atleantean titan special attack still has different throw force STILL. This is what everyone else has:
What i care about is Thot’s wisdom worldtwist, not that you care and only because it is a bug i cannot fix because i cannot find where double effect is coded. Instead of giving double armor it reduces armor. Most of the other bugs i can fix on my own in fact i did fix on my own, something no one should be asked to do and yet i am still plagued with bugs. Nothing i reported ever got fixed the example above didn’t even care about since i fixed it for myself looooong time ago. Not sure what you want from me really? You wanna fan boy over the devs go right ahead, i am just telling you what i see
And when was this exactly? Last patch? I didn’t make anything up i told you i didn’t notice any bugs being fixed. Didn’t even notice some of these bugs. 4 bugs most of them seem quite niche. I just gave you code error that i reported on week one. Maybe they can fix their buggy content before they release even more buggy content. At this rate the game will be bug free before aom 2 retold comes out. You are strawmaning so hard. They ought to be releasing a new patch fix every week ATLEAST considering how many bugs they have.
Edit: Ok so that was december 11 yes i was aware of that patch, that was the last patch. The last time i went in and checked and got mad cuz they had time to introduce the new hollyday events and fixed a handfull of niche bugs that frankly were gamebreaking by the sounds of them. Is this workload output suppose to be impressive? I’ve seen buggy games and i’ve seen daily patches from the devs on their buggy games and many of those games weren’t even as bugged as this is. Maybe they are working on something, but i can’t see it. This games feels abandoned to me and nothing you have said here has changed my mind
You asked what they fixed exactly. I provided a link to the last patch notes for the game, which included a ton of fixes (for more than just AotG). And now you’re throwing about words like “strawmanning”? Okay. You do you.
You gave me 4 bug fixes, from 3 weeks ago (+ a few days). The rest was balance. Yeah not lazy at all. How does that disprove anything, i don’t think you have any reference to what a hard working developer can put out in term of bugfixes if you think that disproves that they are lazy. And that was the only patch released since the 25 of November so it took them 2 weeks to cough up 4 bug fixes for aotg
The priority should not be based on how hard it is to fix but on how negative the impact is on the gameplay.
If one world twist in AotG is bugged then it is maybe a little annoying but something you can deal with.
If there is a bug that can happen in normal gameplay that crashes the game or something like that then it’s way more important.
It’s also very hard to rank bugs by how easy they are to fix because you need to analyse how hard they are to fix. Finding out how hard it is to fix a bug is often almost as hard as fixing it.
The example bug you gave that they haven’t fixed since release is a super unimportant thing that they might even be intentional.
Throw force has little to no impact on the gameplay.
Well the kastor not attacking thing i did actually remember it now. The reason it was so forgettable was because it was easy to fix. All you needed to do is restart the map. Listen, i don’t care to argue with fan boys. You think this is acceptable. I do not think it is. And if i hear they are releasing another DLC or new content without addressing the myriad of bugs, i will not engage with it simple as. Maybe they are not lazy, maybe they are working on new things for us to buy. I will not buy new buggy content until they fix the buggy content they already have in the game. Again they should be putting out DAILY bug fixes until this is resolved. Their bug fix output has slowed down since the game release and it’s dead or dying at this point. I have a point of reference i have bought buggy games before. And i’ve seen how fast they can be addressed. I have a point of reference so i am not gonna waste my time with straw man arguments. I’ve made my point quite clear. As for the analysis i gave them the code where it is bugged in my bugg report, what more do they need to analyze. Change 200 and 400 to 300 and 600. I changed all my god powers all my gods all my units all my upgrades. took me about 2 weeks for my personal mod. After patch i had to redo it and since i already decided on the stats and had done my testing the first time around it took me a day. Wtf are we even talking about. And when i say every unit every god power every god every upgrade i do mean it. Not one of them stayed the same…well eco upgrades. I left eco upgrades the same…most of them
Every game is released with a long list of known bugs.
If they would fix all the bugs the game would have to be delayed for so many years that it would be totally outdated on release.
I rather have a game with a few bugs then no game. I rather have a new DLC with new content then a less bugs.
And I rather have them work on actual serious bugs like crashes or desyncs then Titan throwing power and AotG effects. Stuff that actually impacts the playability of the game.
If they would be making daily patches then they would spend almost their entire time just shipping the patches themselves and would have almost no time to work on actually making changes for the patches.
There is a huge overhead when you want to make updates on multiple different platforms and need to make sure they the game is actually still compatible between all those versions.
Funny how other devs can do it. If i didn’t have a point of refence maybe you could convince me, but i do. Aom was always more of single player anyway. Yes i have heard streamers talk about how the devs are working on fixes and balances but they mention things that affects THEM. Most people do not bother with what affects streamers. I am sure the fire brigade is trying to put out fires based on the ideea this will be some sort of competitive esport behemoth. I’ve seen companies run their games into the ground chasing that dragon
Different games have different engines, are on different stores, might be single player only or multiplayer only, might just be released on 1 language and so on.
There is not a single other developer in the world using the same engine btw.
And that is a counter argument how exactly? But i did want to address another issue. You mentioned important things like desync. Well that was never important to me, i don’t play multi player. Even AOE2 DE is played mostly in single player. If desync is still a thing, first of all, LOL. So they ought to focus on multiplayer, yet you ignore they still haven’t fixed it. And second they should focus on multiplayer issues in the age game that is known most as more as a single player thing. Not even their titles known most for multiplayer are being played mostly in multiplayer. Just because you don’t care about these bugs doesn’t mean other people don’t. I don’t care about your multiplayer. Maybe that has seen MASSIVE improvement and it slipped under my radar. I wonder then why player count dropped so much, but from a single player perspective i have seen very few things being resolved.
Quick edit i realized there is badge for playing 1 multiplayer game and only 34.4 % of players on steam have it. And who knows how many of them played 1 game just for the badge. Clearly multiplayer desync does not matter for most players
Anyway i am done. I usually post on steam but i decided to come and post some of my gripes here, maybe that way some of it will reach developers. Didn’t come here to argue with fanboys
