there is actually an “unranked” rating so to speak. you can’t see it in game but can see it on aoe2.net

You don’t say
But this ELO…
a) … needs to be fixed (because it’s completely borken right now)
and
b) … needs to be shown in the lobbies
I don’t play ranked games, I played about 20 1v1 ranked game.
“Ranked” means competitively, you want to achieve high elo and get higher rank on the players list.
“Unranked” means just for fun, you want to play without any ambitions. Just want to play relaxed.
If “Unranked elo” exist and everybody can see easily (not just from a website and typing name) it makes no sense, make everything ranked. Same thing.
The main reason you want unranked elo is you don’t want to have noob or pro in your lobby. Add something to title “NO NOOB” “no pro” “1200-1400” etc. Sometimes they can join, report if you can. I had a teammate in 4v4 black forest no noob game, my flank player just had 1 TC and when his city destroyed he built a TC without creating any villager and having 30 villager. At least I hold as long as I can and my 2 other teammates could destroy opponent team from other side.
Bumping this. Would it be possible to create a mod to show the unranked elo if the devs refuse to do this easy fix?
Not sure if unranked still exists. Aoe2.net also don’t show it anymore. I think the Devs deleted it when the added the DM ratings to the lobby. Not that unranked elo mattered a single bit. It was completely trash and meaningless.
It is helpful in trying to balance lobby games. It is still visible on aoe2.net on the lobbies tab next to the players name. Its not ideal to have to use a separate website and continually refresh but unfortunately it is the best tool we have for trying to balance lobby games. Either way I use it constantly when hosting lobby games so I can say with full confidence it is not “trash” or “meaningless”.
I’d be glad just to see how many multiplayer games has one played, without the need to have aoe2.net open all the times to check.
I thought it was used for matching the quickplay games?
There is no proof at all about this statement. It looks like quick match doesn’t use any rating in matching players (and therefore it is terrible).
