You can literally change a civ’s architecture in the Genie editor in 2 minutes. Us non coding plebs can do that!
Im saying this from a full neutral perspective

You certainly are. I gave up on making that Caucasus set for now, because paying for all the work cost too much.
How much does it cost am curious? Maybe someone rich can fund in making architecture sets for all civs we need.
Probably at least a few thousand dollars. I didn’t want to find out after the work was already done. All I know is I can’t afford it, as I am preparing to live by myself and need as much money as possible.
Damn it reaches the thousands.
Well, that’s just an estimate. I was supposed to pay half a thousand dollars just for a couple of now-obsolete buildings, so there is no way I can afford to pay for the whole thing.
You could fool me. Im but a humble many years civ crafter who looks in awe of those who can do more
You spend 20 bucks (80 if including all DLCs) on a game whose core gameplay does not even function properly, and you call the long overdue fix “given to us for free”?
Well said PilgrimHYR.
Remember folks, we vote with our purchases, our dollar. If the company does not work to please the customers, us, then we do not buy any more of their products. It’s that simply. They either work with their customers and continue to have business, or we spend our money elsewhere and they get nothing.
That’s a shame. That said,
I stand by my initial statement.
I really don’t know what you mean, but if you envy people who can program, I suggest you try to learn to program yourself. There are lots of free resources available on the internet to help you do it.
How much without the destruction animation?
I’ll agree that the balance side of thing is quite good. Even despite some obvious missteps, I think overall balance is in a great state and the devs are relatively responsive there. In other areas, chiefly graphics and (especially Editor) bugs, they are far less responsive and/or it just takes a lot longer for them to make changes.
Depends on your point of view, but I’d say the vast majority of jobs are not “enviable”. In the US, at least, programming is often considered one of the cushier gigs in STEM, which itself is broadly considered a good career route if you have the interest/aptitude for it. Although AFAIK programmers in the US are significantly better paid than their counterparts in many other countries. All else being equal though, (usually) being able to work remotely is a major advantage over many other types of job. The other stuff about stress, deadlines, and sometimes long hours is par for the course in a lot of jobs that are tech/science adjacent, and in many other fields. But I agree that calling it the “job of the few and lucky” is a bad characterization, and I understand this response is a reaction to that characterization.
Ignorance of dev plans isn’t an argument for anything though, despite both sides using it. It could also be that 5 more years go by and there’s no reskin DLC or new building set. The point is that until we know, it’s understandable for people to wish that more could be done in this department which has visibly lagged behind other aspects of the game, and of other games that get frequent graphics updates and additions. If you can credit the devs for seeming more responsive with regards to balance changes than in other games, you might acknowledge that they seem far less responsive when it comes to requests for new assets. Although in my opinion the root cause of this is likely upper management/MS more than those we call the “devs.”
I do think there’s a huge missed opportunity to invest in more graphics one way or the other though. I don’t think the economic hurdle is nearly as high as some make it out to be, and many on this forum and elsewhere have expressed their willingness to pay for such a thing. I even think there’s a massive opportunity to outsource a lot of official graphics work to the most accomplished members of the modding community, many of whom are already doing official or near-official quality work for free. Surely some of these would be happy to receive even a discounted wage for what they’re already doing for fun, and could have the satisfaction of having their work made official. But this assumes that MS doesn’t clothesline itself with its own red tape.
Did the fact that it wouldn’t be MP compatible either also affect this decision?
The same amount. He charges by the hour. Destruction animations are the easy part.
My brother is a programmer, and he can tell you it’s not that fun. It doesn’t help that he’s one of the few programmers on the planet who actually knows what he’s doing.
I honestly hope theres never going to be a DLC that is only skin. a DLC with civs and campaign is fine but doing it skin only DLC once will just move AOE2 similar to all the other garbage game in the market thats all about cash grab. skins should be just left to the mods.
cmon what’s the need of rushing out this one?
dogsh!t pathing x20 x20
You must be new here
Not only does it not work, but has proven to get worse and worse with every patch, to the point where even the HD version of the game from 2013 pathing is way better
