Apart from a blip in the 1520s, Prussia did away with the Teutonic Order in the 16th century when it became a Duchy and embraced Lutheraniam (essentially the beginning of Prussia as an Early Modern state), so Teutonic Knights are not even a footnote for them. Ironically it’s actually more fitting for Teutonic Knights to be associated with the Austrians as they spread further into HRE territory.
It’d be fitting however to have additional Landsnechts varieties (Landsknecht Pikes and Arquebusiers) cheaply available for both theoretical Prussia and Austria.
I’m not even sold on the theory that the “silent majority” wants Poland. Numbers say that most of the playerbase is either latino or from East Asia, with Europe coming in third.
I feel like that’s just confirmation bias and devs just going with what they are familiar with.
Poland is probably not the majority first choice but it’s one that almost no one is going to be mad about. My perception is the Latin American requesters are just loud, not a majority.
Again, if you go by sheer numbers of players, although Germany is in the top five, the other four countries are China, Vietnam, Argentina and Brazil.
Like you can use the argument against post-colonial nations, even though Brazil is top two or something like that. But it’s not like Vietnam is one of those anyways.
And to all this, do you know why the developers added the United States or Mexico before Brazil and Argentina? I mean, I feel that it would have been more attractive to add Brazil or Argentina as DLC, both countries have a good player base in AOE, personally I do think that the developers have a bias but I don’t know what the reason would be
It doesn’t follow that Latin America has the biggest fan base because it’s concentrated in a few populous countries, nor that being from those countries means wanting them in the game. As far as I’m aware, Europe has the biggest number of players. There’s also going to be a language barrier (despite the forum having a pretty good translator) for a lot of places so you’re not going to hear from them as much as Western players.
Plot twist: people can learn a second and even a third language. I think I’m fairly famous in that most people know I’m Brazilian.
I think a lot of companies in general have a bias against Brazil. To this day a lot of games don’t even get text translated to Portuguese.
Dragon Ball FighterZ didn’t even get a dub despite the Brazilian dub being crazy popular (people only associate Dragon Ball to Mexico but it’s really popular here as well), and despite Naruto and Saint Seiya games (also from the same company) getting dubbed. In fact I think it’s really crazy that AoE games have a Brazilian dub when other countries famous for their voice acting (I specifically mean Japan) didn’t get dubs.
The worst part is a lot of people here defend these decisions because they think they’re better than everyone else for understanding another language (or for being able to play games without actually understanding anything, idk which).
I said “western players” which includes Brazilians. Language is only part of it, the Internet is also pretty segregated so some regions will be in a bubble regardless. For example, there’s an outsized Taiwanese presence on here compared to mainland China.
numbers says most of the playerbase is european, no idea where you get your numbers from? downloads of WOL?
the most active part of the day is European evenings, around 1400 to 1600 CET, and after 2200 CET it drops off drastically. this suggest the player-base is majority European, as 1600 CET is like 10 in the Americas.
Because European players pay 3 times the price? because large parts of the player-base already views Latin America as represented?
The USA apparently is 1 of the largest if not the largest playerbase.
As for the release pattern of civs:
Why should it? The order in which civs are released is not following a certain pattern, that I can assure you.
The USA also ended the period as an emerging great power, the only great power in the Americas. Mexico is probably the most flavourful version of Latin America they could make, and most of the historical beats repeats in the other Latin American nations.
If i was making factions for post colonial nations then the USA is the most obvious choice, it is the oldest, it is the largest market and it is the most important country in the Americas.
Probably next year considering that next year is the 5th anniversary of AoE 3 DE and the 20th anniversary of AoE 3…maybe we will have 2 dlcs in the next year…I think it will be Persia and Oman (both Middle Eastern empires) and Burma and Siam or Kazakhs and Uzbeks in Central Asia… then it is a mystery, they can make a new Native American or Post-Colonial DLC, even Sub-Saharan Africa…
Modern Greeks and Vlacs or the all-powerful Switzerland and Liechenstein seen in the corner xd…
Burgundians make sense because they fought against the Franks and represented the Dutch and Belgians in the 15th century…Sicilians were different from the northern Italian city states because they have their own culture influenced by the Arabs of North Africa and then the Normans in the 11th century and from the 15th century, the Aragonese… and the Lithuanians were a separate duchy of Poland until the end of the 14th century with the Union of Krewo of 1385, recently with the establishment of the Jagiellons and already with the Union of Lublin in 1569. they were a single state with Poland: Poland-Lithuania until the end of the 18th century…
Of course that’s what I mean…
Yes, I couldn’t have said it better…
Of course, until KotM AoE 3 took place all over the world except Europe… with this dlc finally AoE 3 covers all the important continents (Oceania doesn’t count xd)…
Yes, AoE 2 DE is Age of Europe…except for TLK and DoI, all its dlcs take place in Europe and the rest of the continents are super underrated…Moctezuma, Pachacuti, the African campaigns and those of the SEA are a sliver of representation and fresh air among so many European civs…
It also doesn’t help that they release so many expansions in a row in Europe for AoE 2…
We agree on that…since 2005 I wanted to play in Europe but in other regions also in AoE 3…
Yes, they need to add historical battles, not just historical maps, for the new European civs of 3 DE (Swedes, Italians and Maltese; in addition to the Poles and Danes when they add them)…
That’s true, the European civs use more or less the same architecture, however the other civs outside Europe require ###### # ##### new architecture… in TF, TAK, RotR and TLK they introduced 4 new architectures and they were already tired of so much new architecture…
But just those are not going to divide them…
Yes, you need to say it xd…we are the black sheep and MS only puts a lot of money into AoE 2 and 4…and let AoE 3 be handled with whatever is left…
Yes, you need to say it xd…they are going to reuse everything they can from AoE 2…the civilian units will speak Modern Polish and the military units will speak Modern Lithuanian or viceversa xd…
But Denmark was a colonial empire, so it fits better; Austria only had its attempt to make a colony in Venezuela in 1547 but little else…
At least he was right that the civs flags were red xd…
Sure, the Germans in AoE 3 represent the entire Holy Roman Empire (which was mainly Austria and the AI leader who is Frederick the Great represents Prussia, but it should be Charles V so it doesn’t feel weird)…
In short, it is better to rename them Austrians and change AI and Home City and that’s it…
The Doppelsoldner is not anachronistic…it is a military unit that was used in the 16th century, the Chu Ko Nu continued to be used until 1894, the Samurai until 1877, the Urumi is still practiced to this day as a martial art and the Longbowman continued to be used until the beginning of the English Civil War in 1642…
In addition to the fact that the War Wagon was used until 1504 in the Italian Wars…
Yes, what is the allergy that the devs have to the 6th and 7th centuries?.. I also want a dlc of historical battles from AoE 3, but now I’m afraid that they will skip the entire 17th century (for whatever religious reasons) or Gettysburg in the American Civil War (because you already know what the southerners did on the plantations with not-white people)…
It’s been 2 years now…and the Incas don’t even have their own historical battle…they appear only once in Amelia’s campaign in the entire game and they don’t appear again…
Yes that’s what I mean…
A bit anachronistic if we think about the Teutonic order from the Battle of Grunwald but I just saw that the Teutonics continued fighting the Poles until 1521 so it may be like 2nd age units similar to the Maltese/Osseus Circle Swordsmen…
Things as they are…
Yes, but we should not rule it out either… a Brazil and Argentina DLC is just as interesting as the USA and Mexico DLC (both sets of countries with different languages fighting each other for control of their respective region) (Brazil was a empire like Mexico twice and had its independence regions in the 1830s, Brazil had the Piratini and Juliana Republics and Mexico had Texas and Yucatan and Argentina is a federal country very influenced by the United States, but with half the states federals that had its version of Union vs. Confederacy the same year that the American Civil War started in 1861)…
Yes, things as they are… AoE 3 has mostly European players because they are more accustomed to the game since its original release in 2005… in Latin America players are more accustomed to AoE 2 due to its existence in the cybercafes of the 2000s and because they can’t afford better PCs to play the most modern AoE…
Of course, the post-colonial civs can start with the revolutions by making the complete civs (Argentina, Brazil, Great Colombia and Haiti)… also the United States and Mexico already appeared in Steel’s campaign (Amelia)… the Great Colombia would be missing with Bolivar as AI and Brazil for being an Empire, Haiti for being a Caribbean empire and Argentina for the US-style Roca’s Desert campaign in that same period (a Mapuche campaign like Chayton’s one in Argentina is perfectly feasible, in fact Ceferino Namuncura would be our Chayton xd)…
Doubt the logic went much farther than “Mexico is the largest spanish speaking country and hence the biggest market. Latinos love our game so Mexico is the safest bet.”
numbers says most of the playerbase is european, no idea where you get your numbers from? downloads of WOL?
Actually I was checking AoEZone numbers, but now that I check back again in the morning the data seems to be off by a few years.
Funnily enough there’s also an Age of Empires IV video which shows Brazil has a decent playerbase (United States and China are by far the biggest though)
Good luck trying to get Australia in any Age of Game though lmao
I think I have a feeling that the Australian and Oceania maps would be added as part of the Asian DLC. Unfortunately Oceania DLC seems doubtful - but Oceanian Minor Civilizations could be created.
Yes, in addition to the fact that Mexican culture has permeated the entire southern United States and even more so the war they had between the two…
Yes, you could have Maori (in New Zealand) and Hawaiians… but I only see Australia as a desert map surrounded by water and some minor Maori natives (but being like the major civ but smaller)…
