World's Edge will have a big presence at GAMESCOM 2025 (they'll show some surprises)

“World’s Edge is heading back to Cologne for gamescom 2025, bringing with it the legendary worlds of Age of Empires and Age of Mythology: Retold. With a significant presence on the show floor, the studio will be showcasing the depth and diversity of the Age franchise, offering fans a fresh look at beloved titles and teasing a few surprises along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or a newcomer to the battlefield, there’s something epic in store for everyone.”

This year World’s Edge will have a significant presence at GAMESCOM and i think they Will announce a new AOE5 or AOM2.

The upcoming DLCs for AOMre and AOE4 are not a Surprise.

4 years passed since the Aoe4’s launch and It could be come the right time to announce a new title.

I think the next AOE could be cover the ancient times.

Nah, I don’t think they’ll announce AoE 5 yet (they usually wait 6 years to announce a new mainline installment, and AoE 5 isn’t expected until at least 2027):

1999: AoE 2

2005: AoE 3

2011: AoE Online (which was originally going to be AoE 4 set in ancient times)

2017: Halo Wars 2

At most, it’ll be the Japanese DLC for Retold, the 2nd DLC for AoE 4, and something for AoE 2 (but I don’t think it’ll be another new DLC until the end of the year)…

I’d be shocked if a new game was announced.

I’m hoping for AOEIV updates.

We would know if a new game was coming out because they wouldn’t overlap it with a DLC announcement. The focus is definitely on this years big DLC. That’s for both AoM Retold getting more info on the Japanese pantheon, as well as the first look at the new AoE IV DLC. They might even make it about their collaborations with the Louvre or other real world locations.

No they wont.

It will be some details about the expansions and mayybe AoE4 on Playstation.

I don’t expect AoE 4 on PS5 until next year, along with the 5th anniversary DLC… instead, I’d like a port of AoE 3 to consoles (at least Xbox and PS5, I’m ruling out Switch 2) to at least celebrate AoE 3’s 20th anniversary…

With all development on AoE3 dead, and the fact it never even came to Xbox so far… I think that is very, very, very unlikely.

I know it’s super unlikely, but a Switch 2 port is at least possible because of its hardware, and made more interesting through its mouse controls. PS5 port would be cool though, it’s the obvious next move for console porting.

Yeah if a new entry on the series is announced, then AoE IV will fall down

Yep I was thinking the same
If they announce AoE V I would be not surprised after all
In fact, there is a article of a time traveler that AoE V is right to be announced this August on Gamescom

According to this source it would be more of a Empire Earth than a classical AoE game, and it is being developed once again by Relic Entertainment

The term “source” is being used extremely generously.

What I would like to see on Gamescom in order of importance :

  1. Return of AoE III DE development with a DLC just around the corner, a patch, or a huge update (I know is not the reality, as the development for this game has stopped and the team was reallocated into AoM Retold development . In fact, we III DE players had no updates and patches since a while ago. So this is very, very unlikely to happen. Sadly )

  2. NEW AoE IV Fall DLC trailer and showcase. There has been speculation on what civs are coming this fall. Maybe we could finally play with Spanish, Incas and Aztecs, as a tribute for OG The Conquerors Expansion for AoE II. Maybe Its time to play with Norway, Italy, or Denmark. Maybe the Kingdom of Poland. The Republic of Venice are coming. Yay!

  3. A new trailer/ Breakthrough of AoM Retold DLC Heavenly Spear. Depicting some Japanese human units, God Powers, myth units and a glimpse of the campaign

  4. New AoE II DE DLC. Have no idea on what to expect, but saying that a II DE DLC is not going to come is just Dumb. Its their most popular game. A clue on SteamDB has been spotted on “SteamDB Unknown App 3793540”

I suspect you will get 2 (I kind of hope for Khmer to be one), 3, and probably 4 (another Chronicles expansion seems likely).

Yeah 4 civs. Maybe 2 of them would be variants :joy:!
Take my words

It would be really strange that we get another Chronicles DLC for II DE, as layoffs has been spotted at the Studio

But the layoffs just happened didn’t they? A couple level designers?

Maybe they finished. Although that doesn’t bode well for a 3rd installment.

Maybe it’s not Chronicles though.

EDIT: It’s 100% Chronicles

New community post unveils one of the big events at the Gamescom stage:

Today we’re excited to announce that we’re bringing the title to PC. This new PC Edition brings rapid pacing combined with PC elements that players demand: optimized mouse control and settings, full keyboard navigation, refined UI, enhanced 4K visuals, and seamless Steam and Xbox Live integration.

We’ll have more details on the title soon including release date, but visitors to the Age of Empires booth at Gamescom will be the first to get to play Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition and we can’t wait to see you.

So OP was right, we’re getting a new PC AoE title… it’s just in the form of a port of the mobile game from last year

But really, it’s going to be big for AoE 4 this year:

(…) we’ve continued to push things even farther with a new game mode we’ll be unveiling with this next expansion. In fact, while there will be plenty of the Age of Empires IV gameplay you know and love to revel in, you might recognize core elements from other genres making their debut as well. We’re pretty sure you’ll like what you see, and there’s so much more to share!

While we aren’t ready to go into the exact details yet, we do hear rumblings that a previously mentioned event in Cologne later this summer would be a great moment to stay tuned to the Age of Empires channels.

Can’t wait for another round of “WE did it because it sells” and “WE did it because of 100 perfectly good reasons and money is not one of them” from the same people

I really think that them adding anything to the game is better than it being a dead game! Fingers crossed for co-op content!

What are you talking about?

Like, when you question that their next questionable choices, including but not limited to “variant civs”, Jeanne d’Arc “civ”, or 3K in the middle ages were to reduce cost or chase popularity, they tell you WE has a very specific design choice/aesthetics direction/story to tell/dedication to culture and history, but definitely not for money.

But when you say the DLC is overpriced for its contents, they tell you the devs need money.
