I have GTX1080, i7 8700k, 32GB memory and 1Gbps internet connection wired via ethernet to my rig and the game has been unplayable for me for 2months. The game goes black screen, GPU is running at 100% on low settings (causing random shut downs of entire PC) and I get disconnected from multiplayer after 10 mins if I don’t use a VPN.
Have a look at the amount of drops I’m having and that’s going through a VPN. (You can also see my usage has dropped considerably after the last 2 patches have caused game breaking stability issues.)
I’ve only been having system performance issues since the last two patches - before hand it was fine. There are people on the bugs forum posting screen dumps of the exact same errors I’m getting (black screen, and random system reboots) and they started getting them at the same time as me. I’m actually wondering now if it’s an issue with my 600W Corsair power supply - I’ve never had an issue with it powering the 1080 before, but I think some performance degradation in the software might be forcing it to draw much more power (the GPU is at 100% on a 1v1 map) leading to the PSU reaching its limits (hence the random system restarts). It’s actually getting worse if anything in the days after the last patch, which makes me think maybe the pressure on the PSU is causing the hardware to degrade.
I’m forced to use a VPN to get around the 5-10 minute disconnection error that lots of other people are complaining about too. (the latest is that it might be a difference in how certain ISPs are dealing with the exhaustion of the IPv4 pool - a VPN gets around by routing through a different ISP)
Your math is wrong … not 35 X 35 possible civ matchups but rather 35 + 34 + 33 etc
Currently we stand at 630 unique 1v1 matchups up substantially from 171 back in AoC and 91 in original AoK
Personally i think the diversity is awesome !
Ive owned AoE II since late 2001 and all i ever wanted to do was to play online but sadly due to a variety of reasons i was never able to. Now almost 20 years later i finally can play online for the first time with AoE2DE and im like a kid in a candy shop !
All i know is that i suck because i never make military units early enough … maybe i will finally learn this basic lesson after 1000 games or so because so far after 500 im still losing games in this exact manner all the time. I guess thousands upon thousands of hours playing against the old ai only cemented bad habits and did little to prepare me for facing off against human intellect
Anyways i love DE and though it apparently has flaws i could care less … ignorance is bliss i suppose
BTW I’ve done some experiments (I’m off for Easter so I’m bored and determined to figure this out). Enabling Vsync to limit the FPS made me much more stable (albeit the black screen came back once). I’m only using about 25% of the GPU now. So I did another experiment - I quickly stuck a spare 700W PSU straight into the graphics card (and shorted it to turn it on without rewiring the whole system). I then stuck everything back on 4K ultra and allowed the FPS to go up to about 200 again… and after about an hour I haven’t had one black screen of death or restart (it was averaging about once every 10 minutes earlier).
This is bizarre, as I’ve been playing Doom Eternal on 4K ultra today and I haven’t had any issues. Just whatever AOE2DE is doing is bringing out the worst in the PSU.
For reference, these other people have been suffering the same problems as me:
Performance is improved
Crashes are less than before
Disconnects are there, but less
The only two things wrong with the game are auto scout and profanity filter.
It still mostly is…
Not 80, 13.
Also only 4 new were added to DE.
Auto Farm Reseed? Multi-Queue? Anyone?!
When you call a remaster a mod, this argument already loses the logic…
Yeah, not a huge deal tbh. Since HD did have it and also if devs could find a way, they would…
I had 40FPS at launch with UHD. Now I have 120.
That’s where you’re wrong.
Mongols got Steppe Lancers because of community
Underpowered civs (some of them) were buffed
OP civs that became underpowered after a while (Cumans for example) got some good buffs
At this point, if you want to say this while the game is under support, might as well go play HD. Since that one is no longer supported.
Inexperienced programmers because there are bugs?
You know that each game on launch has bugs?
Lots of them even do get bugs on fixes but the bugs get attended.
AoE 3 DE is being made by an entirely DIFFERENT development team. They are called Tantalus. Whereas, AoE 1 DE and AoE 2 DE were made by Forgotten Empire. However, ALL the “different” development teams are being “overseen” by the microsoft team, called “World’s Edge”.
Interesting to note. I guess it does truely mean that AoE2:DE won’t be dropped because of AoE3 then. Which is 100% logical because why would you abandon the most popular game 11
Ofcourse. Also, on a side note. The reason AoE 1 DE released in a “not so good condition”, was due to mutiple problems with it’s development; Most notably, the fact that, if you drew a time graph, using a line, from when AoE 1 DE was “most probably” greenlit for production; Then you would quite possibly come to the conclusion that AoE 1 DE had a somewhat rushed develoopment (which was also indicated by the fact, that the original launch date was delayed from november 2017 - february 2018). Although there is not enough solid evidence, and what evidence there is, in any particular area, is quite insifficient. However, given the HD (2013) release, the renewed interest in the game, date of AoE 1, 2, 3, DE’s and also the AoE 4 announcement. There is enough evidence to indicate the likely possibility that a rushed development for “both” AoE 1 and 2 DE, was the cause, due to, most probably poor inital planning. Which can also be seen in the AoE 1 DE original release, being solely on the Microsoft Store.
I actually did a more thorough explanation and examination on the AoE 4 :gaas: announcement. It gives a more detailed explanation as to the timing of the events prior/during/after the release of both AoE1 DE and AoE 2 DE.
You know that games, when financed by a publisher, require a ROI (Return On Investment), right? Why would Microsoft focus more on AoE 2 instead of AoE 4? The simple fact, is that, even if AoE 4 is not as good as AoE 2, they will still probably be able to sell more copies of AoE 4, than they would from AoE 2? Simply because it is a “new game”. Therefore they “remastered” all the original games, to create “hype” for the inevitable release of AoE 4. Which is also why each release would probably be released within 1-2 years of each other.
Personally, i am not a game developer, nor would i claim to know or even understand most of the game mechanics inside of any game, much less an RTS game. I have had various ideas which would be great for different games, yet i cannot perceive of any way in which a new RTS game in the AoE series could possibly be better than AoE 2. However, i am well aware of the fact, that i simply lack sufficient information in regards to RTS game design.
Oh, on another side note. The developer studio Tantalus is actually an Australian Studio. Which also happens to be where i am from. I did not even know there was even any AAA-game studios in Australia.
Every time this game gets expanded, tons of people buy it. It is currently the most played RTS in the world, and every day it sells new copies.
This game could easily get another 3 DLC packs and still sell like hotcakes. Which would be far cheaper than developing a new game.
For any new game to even begin to compete with AoE2, it would have to have the same gameplay, the same mechanics, more than 35 civs, and a lot more stuff on top.
Yes. You are entirely correct. Yet, you still have missed the most vital thing about game development marketing.
1). After initial released most sales will be during "sales/on sale periods - and immediately after that.
2). The game (At least in Australia - So i will be using AUD currency), at full price, sells for $22 (approximately).
3). A new AAA-game will sell for about $80 (for “normal” editions), with special editions being approximately $100
4). AoE 2 DE would nee to sell 4 MILLION copies (approximately), while AoE 4 would ONLY need to sell 1 MILLION copies. To make the same amount of “gross revenue”.
There was some problems with AoE2:DE at release sure, and there are still some, but I feel like they did everything they could to not lose time. For instance on AoKHeaven, I’ve read that they started working on AoE2:DE campaigns as soon as they released Rise of the Rajas, by using place holder civs to play test.
I think such a business plan would draw a lot of criticism tho.
Well, it depends whether every AoE2 player is convinced Aoe2 can’t be beaten or not. And AoE3 players or people that just like to play a variety of RTS might be interested too, right?
Not really. Check both here and in Steam, and you will see new civ lists that would probably make the total civ count go to 90.
People want more civs in this game, a lot of people do.
