Since the release of the Dynasties of the East DLC, I’ve been experiencing some issues with the game (Steam version). My Xbox account was no longer linked, so I reconnected it. However, when I unlock new achievements, they unlock correctly on Steam but do not unlock on Xbox Live. The Xbox app correctly detects that I’m playing Age of Empires IV, and I can access my Xbox profile from within the game, so the link appears to work.
I’ve verified the integrity of the game files through Steam, uninstalled the game, and deleted all local files before reinstalling — but the issue persists.
In the meantime, I’ve also noticed another problem: daily challenges no longer unlock (though event challenges still do). I’m sure I’m completing the required tasks — for example:
Finish a match in Skirmish, Multiplayer, or Campaign mode
Win a match as the French
Develop 5 Blacksmith technologies in a single match
Win a match by constructing a Wonder
I’ve completed these objectives in a standard Skirmish match, with no cheats and default settings, playing as the French, developing all Blacksmith technologies across all ages, and even winning by building a Wonder — yet none of the daily challenges unlock.
I’ve searched online and found a few older reports of similar issues from several years ago, but nothing recent. I’d like to know if anyone else has encountered these problems specifically since the release of the Dynasties of the East DLC.
I’m having this same issue, on my match history nothing shows since Oct 30. I try to do a skirmish vs AI every day to do the challenges, but nothing has unlocked since the 30th.
When the game first starts, I still get the splash screen for the Oct 30 update. When I complete a match, the usual progress screen doesn’t show XP or anything, it has a message that match results are being synced with the server, and a link to the Code of Conduct for playing online (even though this was a 1v1 skirmish against the AI, not an online match.
My game isn’t through Steam, just the regular MS Store, I tried the option to verify/repair the installation, which took about 5 seconds and didn’t fix anything.
This has happened to me with at least one previous update, and another update eventually fixed it…
absolutely! I have the steam version, bought the latest DLC and since Oct 30, nothing will clear, none of the challenges show and I am stuck with a red bubble (the one that shows if you have uncompleted dailies) that number is at 21 atm. I have done all of the same troubleshooting steps you have, but no change. I still have the same Halloween background too. Refers to new event challenges, but none show. Everything is old. and the completions/achievements won’t clear. I wish they would fix this.
This has been happening to me on Xbox Live since 30 October, none of my games have been logged properly since then, Additionally, now the event challenges aren’t even unlocking.
I am currently not able to earn any credit for any ‘Daily Challenges’. My problem’s been going on for at least a several days, maybe “since Oct 30” like others have noted. I only have a Steam account linked, and do not have an Xbox account linked. When I finish my match against AI opponent, the ‘Progression’ tab contains some message about needing to retrieve something from some server, with notation that once updated my history will reflect progression, and an incorrect URL to some Code of Conduct web page. I’m not getting any credit for the ‘Daily Challenges’ and I’m pretty sure I may also not be getting any credit for Mastery achievements for the specific Civ I’m playing.
Same issue. Windows 11 through Steam. Every time a game ends I get “Waiting to retrieve match results from the server” Left overnight, it doesn’t retrieve the results. Tried getting steam to verify integrity of game files, all checked out ok. Reinstalled game, same problem happens. Disabled firewall and anti virus software, still get “waiting to retrieve match results”. I’ve eliminated everything my end. This all began with the Dynasties of the East DLC it was fine until the update. The last game recorded in match history is the 4th November which is the day the DLC was released (I’ve played it every day since then). None of my progress is being saved until this bug is fixed.
I play through Steam and have the same issues since the Dynasties of the East DLC. I wish I hadn’t bought it. Something in that update glitched the game. The daily quests never clear. There is a red bubble that is the one that showed the unearned daily quests. Mine is around 30 now. No achievements can be gained, no daily quests, no goals for the monthly event. I have done all of the troubleshooting that has been posted to no avail. I feel as if I am wasting my time since achievements and points are not being counted. Windows 11, Steam platform and all game files have been validated. Please help!
There has been some days since last entry, and this thread has fallen far down.
Is there anyway to make the developers aknowledge that they have seen this, and that they are in the effort to fix it. Because it’s very frustrating not to get any further.
I opened a ticket, but so far, no resolution. My game has started showing daily quest completion, but they are not marked complete (the red bubble still shows - it’s over 40 now) Achievements for individual civilizations still don’t clear. It’s getting to the point I don’t even want to play the game. (Steam version)

I wanted to share an additional detail that might help.
Today I unlocked a new achievement on Steam. It shows up correctly in my Steam achievement list, but with a completely incorrect timestamp — Steam reports it as unlocked on 10/10/2007 at 09:00, even though I actually unlocked it today (12/10/2025 around 01:00, French time).
On the Xbox side, the achievement still doesn’t appear at all.
I’m wondering whether this wrong timestamp could be related to the broader issue of achievements not syncing properly between Steam and Xbox. Maybe something is going wrong with how timestamps are handled, which could be affecting the overall synchronization process.
Just wanted to share this update in case it helps with understanding or diagnosing the problem.

We need to bump this! It’s a real pain in the A…. I really enjoyed completing the missions. Now I have been stranded at level 514 for over a month. And I have played ALOT!
I have almost quit playing. The red bubble showing quest to complete keeps going up in numbers. it doesn’t matter if the correct task screen comes up or not. Single player or if I use a custom match against an AI opponent. This bug drives me crazy. what works one day, one work the next and the red bubble with numbers is ridiculous.
Still not working after 2 months. My match history shows the last match on 4th Nov 25 which was the day I installed the Dynasties of the East DLC. Nothing has updated since then, no daily challenges have been recorded and every match ends with “waiting to retrieve match results from the server” error. I can’t see it being an issue my end as it started with the first game I played after installing the new DLC and has stayed the same since. However I’ve done all I can to eliminate any potential issues from my end. I’ve reinstalled the game several times since November. It is fully updated with all the new patches. All drivers on the PC are up to date. I have checked the firewall settings and whitelisted not just the .exe file but the whole AOE folder and checked access to the relevant ports, not that that would work anyway because I tried playing with all firewalls and security disabled and I still got the error. I’ve verified the integrity of the files on Steam. On the ingame profile page I have the green circle icon saying I’m online and the achievements are still registering on Steam (mine have the correct time stamp). Out of desperation I even tried linking my xbox network profile to the game as well as my steam profile. I know it can’t affect it but I’ve just run out of options. Please can this be looked into. The current build number is now 15.2.7445.0, Steam platform on Windows 11
