Add Option to Change Player Color in Multiplayer and Skirmish

Don’t worry, you are red by default for the enemy. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

This is something that’s been in literally every RTS worth it’s salt for the past 3 decades! Such a basic, yet glaring omission!

Exactly.
It is such programmers laziness. Shame.
I will not buy any future DLC until it is added. Sorry.

Free to choose one of those reasons:
(1) It’s fine. Most people do not intentionally choose colors anyway.
(2) Gameplay is king. As long as the game is fun, I don’t care about little men with colorful clothes.
(3) It’s a design decision. You should not call it an omission or laziness. It’s okay if you do not like this decision, you can go and play AOE2 in that case, but it’s not laziness.
(4) Color selection is not a core part of the gameplay, just like map editors or modding tools. It would be better to have them but I would not call it a deal breaker and people should not hate the game just because of lacking this function.

also in campaign, playing as english without being red is just insane

Precisely!

The game designs have no good or bad argument is the funniest to me.

Is it strange that it isn’t in the game? Yes, is it game breaking? No it’s not. I’m sure that it will come in the future and we would have a much bigger problem if the game play was worse because that isn’t as easily fixed as just adding a feature to add colour.

But why should we accept such a simple feature that is and has been standard for this genre and franchise not being present?

  1. It’s NOT fine, EVERY person I’ve played with over the years in other AoE have THEIR color that they ALWAYS are.
  2. Game Play is great, but even gameplay (specifically coordination) is hampered by this.
3)It’s not a design decision when it’s literally implemented in the game, it’s just chosen FOR you, instead of you choosing lol.
  3. Color selection isn’t core game play… Uh… SO no features that aren’t “Core Gameply” matter? lmao. It matters, to a LOT of people. And not being able to properly coordinate with team mates with default team-colors is silly. At least you can choose to have them unique, that’s great. But doing away with CUSTOMER CHOICE, is NEVER a good idea, in ANY business. Especially when the elements are ALREADY THERE,…you’re just not allowing them to choose… you’re choosing for them instead.

Not gameplay mechanic… not core? Questionable… But regardless of what element you consider it to be, it IS important to a LOT of people. And should be fixed asap.

Henry Ford once thought having everyone’s Automobile be black, was the way to go. No choices for customers… it just muddies the waters.

LMAO.

Go look that up on Brave Search and see how that turned out lol.

And i can argue it does not matter to a lot of people either cause it does not matter for me.

No need to riled up, it is known that it is a missing feature, and i am sure it will be considered.

Same as more game modes, more options for custom modes, ranked matches, global queue, hotkey customisation, random civ pic, map reveal after match, yada yada yada

The core gameplay is mostly bug free, it is fun, lots of people enjoy it. that is what counts the most for most of the people, Devs included.

I play competitive mainly, but there is no ingame elo and ladder and ranked, do you see me making a ruckus like this?

As always, game needed to be released, money involved, ,dead lines to hold, it was not delayed or anything. It came out, and it could have been worse if we look at what the industry has become those days unfortunately. Server Issues, unfinished games, bugs, shittons of missing features, blatant lies and delays.

So FAR there was no marketing lie here - which i am aware of, there was no delay, there was just 1 MINOR server outtage which lasted for roundabout 20-30 minutes and was fixed. The Devs are active in the bugsection, lots of interviews are done and conducted.

Also keep in mind, AoE4 had 2 most impossible tasks - be a successor to AoE2 AND revive the RTS genre.

Now its just time to be patient, and see if Relic can also deliver on the missing QoL things, and build on the solid foundation they created.

In the meantime, just maybe try to not get to angry if the Game decides that you have to play in wonderfull pink. Its not worth it, imho.

I played the campaign and it was awesome. But playing the skrimish, I also realized that I can’t pick a custom color! I really don’t want to play as the blue guys anymore. Playing as a blue English fraction for example makes no sense to me (personal opinion though). Back in the days almost every other RTS let me choose the team color I wanted to play with. It sounds kinda crazy but if I could wish for one thing to be added to the game … it would be a free choice of my team’s color.^^

Seriously. There’s no good reason for such a simple feature being absent.

Good afternoon everyone, I would also love to be able to select a color for my civilization.

Hoping the devs add it, should have been in since release.

Reminder that this game has a AAA price tag.

Oh, it is also part of the Aoe franchise (supposedly).

What’s your point?

You really just like to complain about stuff don’t you?

This is a feature that was in every other AoE

Why shouldn’t it be here?

‘A.I. has reached Imperial Age’

Cool. So, uh, which one?

That feature is already in the game, at some level at least. You have to go into settings and disable the option of “same color for allies” or something like that.

Then you will get random colors during multiplayer matches. I haven’t tried it for personalized matches though.

The game also starts like that because once you get random colors for everyone it kind of becomes difficult to get used to it at glance, but after some games, we are good to go hahaha I believe it is because the minimap is too small and the icons within are hard to distinguish
