that’s a good thing. i don’t want constant balance changes to break recorded games or mess with tournaments. Also the game balance is pretty good now, not many changes are needed anymore (something about gujaras is probably enough)
4 civis with both combined,DoI had 3 totally new and one reworked so pretty much same amount.
I hadn’t thought about this in terms of released civs per year. From your observation maybe they are planning to add 4 civs each year.
It took like a year for AoE 4 to get DLC. It came just in time to push Game Pass.
AoE 2 has a different cadence.
While new content is great, I care a lot of making the current game work. Pathing is still a huge issue, civ balance is off for so many civs (new India DLC civs are not balanced well at all imo), replays are broken, there are a ton of cheaters, and the community has a problem with map selection in multiplayer games.
I’m fine with an entire year of no new DLCs if all of these issues are fixed.
This was great, of course, and is far and away the highlight of the year as far as AoE2 content (second place goes to when they fixed a bunch of gamebreaking Scenario Editor/campaign bugs). My concern is that it’ll probably be at least a year and a half after DOI came out before we actually get more AoE2 content/civs. (There is the possibility of getting another Roman civ with RoR, but this is still speculation). Which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it definitely wasn’t what people expected given the (admittedly vague) roadmap and the perception that lots of new “AoE2 content” would be added in the near future after DOI.
Tournaments are great and all, and it’s good to have official support, above and beyond what casters and other individuals contribute. Generally beyond a certain (low) baseline, this isn’t what people are asking for when they want new updates/content. Kind of a double edged sword as well, given how many balance patches have been delayed due to ongoing, often month-long tourneys/qualifiers. Sure it was nice to get 3 new civs with DoI, but with 2 of them being mostly dead on arrival as far as competitive play, and the other one being overpowered, I don’t blame people for wanting somewhat more frequent updates to fix obvious balance/bug issues.
Like many others, new civs (for AoE2) and bug fixes. I get that there are a lot of diverging interests among the community, and it’s hard to please everyone, but these seem extremely popular and are obvious candidates for improved prioritization.
I’m a big fan of Age I and I confess to being thrilling for this DLC! It’s everything I’ve been dreaming for so long, as Age I DE has never get too much new content since the release (only the addition of unit stances, to be honest).
But I love Age II as well, and I guess that the civs that people are demanding for so long (like Armenians and Georgians) are already been planned. Nevertheless, it’s great as an Age I fan to feel been listened to a little, and I’m grateful for de devs for this!
I will say, I am sort of disappointed with the patches, as I had expected one to come out already. I suppose they’re waiting for Warlords to be over, but after Red Bull that kinda sounds like a cope.
Constant balance changes are great, I don’t know why people have a bone to pick with them. Especially since they’ve decided to do more gradual changes now, and several civs definitely need more steps than the initial ones taken. Replays and whatnot breaking are simply not that big of an issue. Releasing before/during a tournament is not a problem as you can still continue playing on the old patch.
And finally, even if the meta sets, I do think there’s worth in changing the meta around now and then, so that it wouldn’t become stale. AoE2 is at this point a huge game, so finding new and interesting ways to prop up underperforming civs (like with Khmer) would be great and African Kingdoms level of reworks (such as on water) is probably not needed as much. Though people could argue that AK ruined the water meta due to their preference for galley micros.
?
I have seen many asking for Armenians and Georgians, and took them as an example of civs the devs may be planning already, considering they listened the community on the Indian civs.
AOE4 got 2 civs but the game is still in Beta xD
It is almost unplayable and horribly boring.
Where did they lie to you ?
You get a DLC
You get a Console version
You get another DLC 2023
Why the hate ? I really dont understand the issue here.
Here is the Roadmap again. Maybe you havent seen it.
I’m pretty sure the dev team is busy right now working on the Return of Rome DLC as well as tweaking the Console version (+ probably preparing yet another DLC in the style of Dynasties of India, meaning splitting up another civ).
If you look at the branches on SteamDB, you’ll notice that they’re constantly updating their internal branches, so a lot of work is happening behind the scenes.
Devs told that 2022 would be busier than 2021 and no one cares about console version.
Well yeah. It’s a busy year for them, to make a console version and preparing the 2 new dlcs for you.
Oh wow, we haven’t had any of the things listed under Fall, apart from the “someone’s birthday”, which had essentially nothing for AoE2 (there was an in-game event that was just a mash up of past in-game events). If I was the kind of person who cared about getting a constant stream of content, I’d be pretty het up about it at this point.
Al menos los de aoe 2 tienen algo más preciso, a los de aoe 3 nos dijeron habra un gran parche y ya ahi estamos xd viviendo de la esperanza
Fall is almost gone. Has anything planned in “FALL” been released?
Where are the popular mods in settings?
What’s something different and unknown? Unknown.
Whose birthday is it?
More balance changes where?
How much were you paid for this?
A DLC that perhaps like a game mode.
