Hi! Thank you for this patch! Hopefully a new beginning!
My first feedback is that efforts should be focused on fixing and improving the pathfinding a lot.
It is really common to see units moving around in a weird way, not attacking, attacking the wrong unit or so. I don’t know how to emphasize this more.
Why not having an option to enable a selected group of unit to attack a specific other group of unit. Not a stance, but a behaviour. Like - all cavalry attack ranged units, all archers attack footmen first, all heroes attack MU…etc. Don’t worry for micro. It will not eliminate it. Micro will always be a potential game changer. It will just make things less annoying.
It should be made easier for user to select a large group and make them run away at their original max speed for each unit. It is rather annoying when a whole group of fast raiders is being pwned because a single archer is in the selection group. There should be a button for that, like alt+right click.
Such hotkey already exist in other games, like Warcraft III.
For a game like AOM, no unit selection max limit should exist. It’s not Warcraft 3 (even there it is very controversial). I don’t think it suits the spirit of the game.
At the same time, there are lots of unit that have special attacks like healing, etc. Similarly to Warcraft 3, the UI should be reviewed to give access to those special attacks using buttons.
Please, give access to a grid hotkey from scratch in the game. The user could select it.
Everyone would benefit from it and especially new users.
Add an option to always show units healthbar.
Enable user to tab between selection of different type of unit and give specific order to specific subgroup.
Enable player to tab between a selection of different building type to create units from each of them without having to select them one by one.
Create an autoqueue hotkey.
The rest is not so important, seriously. The game is playable and relatively balanced, apart from that. It’s really the pathfinding, glitches and lags that drove everybody away…
Thank you again for caring about… your game.
I strongly believe it has the potential to attract new players even today.
