Same here. All progress is gone all of the sudden. The weird thing is, the saved games are still there. But if I load a game and I win, the progress is still not shown on the campaign map, nor the next game.
If I go to the folder in the drive, folder of saved games is full, but the campaign folder is empty.
And also, when I access my user account in Xbox console companion, all of the achievements are still there.
On another note: I think this has happened immediately after I have played the new challenge game of Barbarossa.
@GMEvangelos just happened to me. Format the pc, reinstalled the game. All progress is gone. Medals are stil appearing, though. I made a backup from the profile data, but it didn’t help.
It’s these stupid upgrades. Either the XBox ‘companion’ for PC upgrade or the new Challenges (they often comes together). You can find the games in the saved folder, but there’s no way to get to start them…
@GMEvangelos It is bit annoying, that such a crucial error was not able to fix within the last 12 months.
I lost now for the second time within two months my progress of the last played scenarios. I use the Game version from the microsoft store, always play on the same system, connect automatic with my XBox-Account and didnt change any mods, setting, etc. It appears that the losses are somehow connected to the new updates. Gone is the progress of the last played scenarios (over a time of 2 weeks), the connected medals and the saved games. It seems as the whole thing was put on reset to an older version.
I suppose it is gratifying that i am not alone with this problem, but it makes continuing to play the game pointless, because it is only possible to play the opening scenarios. Frustrating that despite all these comments no developer has investigated seriously. I can add this from my experience: I began playing the campaigns while online in Steam. Everything was good at first, but as I got into scenarios where the population grew high the games would become laggy to the point it was too frustrating to continue. Tried various technical solutions, but I have a screaming fast system with the newest top of the line video card, 32Gb’s of Ram , SSD storage, etc. so it was not computer related. Turned off all othe resident apps. No luck. So I started to play in offline mode, and that fixes that problem. But then I encountered this issue where games and medals are not saved once you leave the game. Also an issue where saved games do not display in the list even though the files are present in the saved games folder. What is the point of that saved games folder tab? you can’t launch a game from there. Very sad because I was looking forward to revisiting what had been my favourite game more than 20 years ago. the new intros are good and the games looks so promising in many respects, but these major bugs make it unplayable.
Here is a video that illustrates the completion of the second or third scenario of Joan of Arc, but when i go back to campaigns it wants me to start the first one. no others show…similarly I have completed all the attila the hun campaigns and all the Kotyan Kahn, but they don’t show. I played these games in offline mode on Steam, because online they are too laggy once you have a large population in the game.
I have the same problem, and it is kind of crazy. I’ve tried to fix my internet, and i think this problem is related with xbox live. I use Windows 10, so i looked for Xbox Net and i found that there was a problem. I fixed it and it looks like it worked, but is just temporal fix, because some of my campains are saved, but sometimes it desapears from the last point i saved “well”.
I know my English is horrible, but i wish it can help someone to still working in order to avoid that anoyig problem.
Imagine if all our saved Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, and screenshot JPG images became unreadable and unviewable each time Microsoft Windows got a patch update Why aren’t AoE saves, replays, etc. treated with similar care and accessibility over time?
Guys, I recently had the same issue. I think it might have something to do with storing data in the Steam cloud. I noticed that unlike other games, AOE used up nearly the full 10MB provided, probably due to large amounts of autosaves. I stop syncing with the cloud and the problem was resolved.

AOE 2 DE Lords of the West
I have had the same campaign issue with the last update. All my progress was erased. My saved games are still there and load fine.
However, if I load and complete a saved campaign game mission (say Sicily Mission 3) the game does not save the progress. It also does not allow me to advance to the next mission in the after mission dialogue like normal.
Note: I was using the “small trees” mod. However, from what I can tell on this thread that does not appear to be relevant. I did load the save games without any mods and complete the missions with the same results.
I have small tidbit that might help people dealing with the same issue: I loaded my save game from towards the end of the first mission of my Sicily campaign. When I completed this saved game mission I was awarded progress. Fortunately I had saved games with each mission towards the end so I could rather quickly progress. You just have to re-beat the missions through the saved games in order as it will not record progress if one is skipped.
