All campaign progress and saved games are away!

Campaign progress is not saving for me. If I beat a few missions and close the game (no cloud errors or anything), the progress simply doesn’t save. It’s happened twice to me now. How do I fix this? Is there any way to just skip missions to get back to where I was? Surprised this bug still exists.

I’m reluctant to do campaigns in any serious sense until saved games work as intended. I’m fearful of advancing and then losing my progress  I’m not a fan of re-work

Interesting. I have seen some games have upto 5 GB available for steam cloud synchronization. So the devs probably have to tell steam that this game would need more data for storage. Currently my replays folder is sitting at 400 MB with 150 files. Those who have over a thousand or so replays would even cross that limit however. It seems steam doesn’t currently synchronize your save files in AOE2DE, only settings.

I found a solution to this problem.
you have to delete any ‘saved games’ that were saved before the update that caused the issue.
I had also had a problem with ‘skirmish’ matches, every time I loaded AOE2 the settings wouldn’t save.
When reading these forums i noticed some one also had a problem ‘overwriting’ save files. I also had this problem and suspected it was because they were ‘pre-update’ saves, leading me to conclude that the saves were in fact causing this bug. everything worked after I deleted my saved games.

Cool intel BlooDyBR1.

Instead of deleting those saved games permanently, could I back them up first and then somehow reload from those files?

I’ve been saving every game moments before victory is achieved, and hope I can load from them rather than have to play the campaigns afresh.

I have reached this same bug and noticed the same thing as you. I only have ~18B free in my steam cloud. I’m hoping this might be the issue, but can’t find a way to remove things from the steam cloud.

Yeah, seems odd to only get about 9.5MB of cloud storage.

Here’s what I currently have:

Back on Feb. 11th, I had this (114.92 KB) available:

So, it’s been pretty consistently ~9.5MB avail, which is too bad

I have good news for you: I managed to delete things, and now campaigns work again!

The really important folder to look in is “\userdata<SteamID>\813780\remote” which is the steam sync folder for age.
In there you’ll probably find a bunch of large save-game files. Replace them with zero size files. Deleting is NOT enough - steam will helpfully keep restoring them if you delete! That can be done in a variety of ways, eg:

  • Open your save game file in a text editor and just delete all the contents then save
  • make a few empty text files and then rename them
  • using the powershell “clc” script
Make sure that you end up with a newer last modified time.

When you turn Steam/Age back on, you’ll get a Steam Cloud conflict, which will allow you to replace the (large) server files with your (empty) local ones.

This actually worked! I can’t believe it! Finally, I can play campaigns like a normal person. I’m so thankful to @BlooDyBR1 and @RosySet5070297 for their instructions.
And also, TBH, disappointed that MS and Steam haven’t done something to fix such a simple bug.

Now for the long slog of reloading all my saved campaign games…

And find somebody solution for Microsoft Store? I have a same problem, i lost all of progress every update and with update is problem too, i’m very frustrated that I didn’t buy a game on steam.

Thank you guys…

Hey everyone,
sorry for the inconvenience. The issue is now being tracked.
