Alternate AI Personalities

It would be nice if each AI Personality had his own default Deck of HC cards - adapted to his times and his rule.

I would too if they let you use their voice clips as taunts on multiplayer

But Shivaji didn’t overthrow the Mughal Empire. The Mughals existed into the 1800’s.

I think AI now chooses decks and cards based on some algorithm.

Certain cards for naval, for deathmatch etc.

I didn’t say he overthrew the Mughals. I said the Marathas did, and he founded the Marathas.

Yes the Mughals technically continued into the 1800s, but that was as an extremely diminished rump state which I would consider being overthrown.

Oh I see, yes my bad.

No. Do not use a deeply religious figure as an AI personality. She’s essentially the “Jesus” of Lakota culture. No.

Chief Eagle Woman is a much better choice, though I’d rather she be made the AI of the actual civ itself and Gall be repurposed as the AI of the Comanche.

If another leader needed to be chosen, I’d personally go with Old Chief Smoke.

The only image I can find of Old Chief Smoke, and there’s no guarantee it’s actually him.

Old Chief Smoke founded the Oglala, upon which the in-game Lakota are most heavily based upon, especially since the Tokala Soldiers are present - the Tokala were and are uniquely an Oglala Akicita.

White Buffalo Calf Woman sounds much more like a “Moses” than a “Jesus” which would be reasonable role for a leader. She’s really the only mention of a leader from before the very late 18th century that I came across. Depicting a leader from an earlier era would be ideal so if you know of any others I’d love to hear.

I see no compelling to pick Eagle Woman. She was a business woman, not a leader.

I did consider Old Smoke and also Lone Horn and Black Buffalo (chief encountered by Lewis and Clark) since they’re a generation older than the most famous Lakota leaders. But even then an earlier leader would be more ideal.

Instead of chronological contrast, another approach would be to give a broader representation of the Sioux and go with a leader like Wanata to represent the Dakota.

No.

Twenty characters.

Just deleting the Lakota civ is really the only way to please you.

Perhaps the Lakotas and Haudenosaunee should be replaced by the Mapuches and Guaraníes. :smiling_imp:

Either of those civs would be great, but I don’t think they need to be replace anything.

Hauds would be fine if they would just revert to stupid changes from the start of DE. Lakota should just be Oceti Sakowin (Sioux) to avoid all the Lakota specific idiosyncrasies like no farming.

Don’t worry, I was just joking, plus I doubt the developers really want or dare to replace those civilizations.

Ok so, it would take a lot of time and resources, But this would allow different playstyles for the AI and It would be nicer to see at the board and see various personalities for the same civ, instead of, you know, Player 2: George Washington, Player 3: United states.

Another one that could be funny to see would be Charles I and Charles V for Spanish and Germans respectively

Your this topic reminds me that I have had a topic talking about almost the same thing.
I listed some AI candidates for European civs there.

I wanted to include Charles V but I cut him to keep the initial list limited at 2 leaders each. Making an exception for Germany and Spain to have a 3rd option would be justified though.

I don’t know how I missed that :man_facepalming:

All that was showing up for existing topics was this one:

Two major obstacles:

  1. Devs may refuse to do this.
  2. If you want a mod instead, this might not be doable.

The second point has to be tested yet. Only a bare bone proof of concept is largely enough: if you manage to

  1. clone a civ
  2. make sure people can’t play it themselves
  3. make it so that the corresponding AI personality can still show up

then it’s doable.

For the rest, you have the choice between recording your own voice or your friends’ voices, finding a voice actor on Fiverr, using elevenlabs.io, a combination of these, or something else. This can be a long term, incremental project. One personality per month, for example. About two years sounds reasonable to me, especially considering that certain mods have been in existence for that long and are still being actively maintained. As for the Ai’s behavior, it’s not too hard/too long to do: you can nonchalantly tweak certain numbers here and there and you will actually see slight differences.

I went ahead and made a local mod.

2 and 3 are incompatible. If you want the AI to play the clone civ, it must show up in the homecity list. So, the more personalities you want, the more duplicates there will be. Like this:

So, since it’s not possible to overcome this, you might as well go all in and take Konahrik’s idea:

Personally, I kinda want this idea to happen, lol. I propose to pick one civ and make a variation for it.
