Austria Deserves to Be a Civilization in Age of Empires III

A Germany split isn’t going to happen at this point, not for Prussia. The devs made their answer pretty clear with the Prussian revolt option.

Maybe if the World’s Edge wants to squeeze money out of the desperate civ-split requesters they could sell a seperate Prussia civ as a DLC and reuse all the Prussian stuff from the revolts and current German civ. Make the civ leader Frederick I of Prussia. Emphasize the “militarized, Germanic efficiency of Prussia” or something…

Or maybe let’s not.

Now Austria… could work as the Hasburg Monarchy developing into Empire of Austria. It could have a special revolution option to become Austria-Hungary but that might be pushing it. Someone with more knowledge of Austrian history is going to have figure that civ out.

Yes, but well, that’s how it is… the East India Company could become a British revolution, but the Maratha are hard to see unless they’re included in a large Dravidian civilization with Sri Lanka…

Yes, for now we’ll have to settle for the Prussian Revolt and, with luck, the Hungarian one, or the Austro-Hungarian one if they rework it with new Habsburg cards…

Marathas and Sri Lankan aren’t Dravidian. Are you conflating them because they’re all South Indians?

And why would they be a revolution? They were controlled by the British Crown. If you want a rev just call it India.

Yes, I’m searching for Sri Lanka and I get Tamils who are Dravidian. The other option would be Sinhalese (encompassing Maratha, Tamils, and Ceylonians into a single South Indian civilization and renaming the Indians as Mughals), but finding a way to avoid dividing the civilization so much…

Yes, or it could be the East India Company using a mix of British and Indian cards…

The “way” to avoid dividing the civilization so much is to have a Nayaka civ which would include Sri Lanka and part of South India, which is sort of the plan we have for the Jewel of Empires mod that may or may not get done some day.

This is were you are falling into the mistake. Civilizations are not meant to be states.

The missing piece would rather be a Carpathian civilization, which would cover Magyar and Romanians.

Eh, I’ve said that stuff shouldn’t go together and now you’ve made it into a Disney ride

The elector card is also just horrendously bad. No techs and unit limits.

I just said EIC shouldn’t be a rev why are you doubling down after agreeing lmao

I agree - need to move away from EIC connected to India completely. Seems odd to agree that EIC be part of their DNA, then introduce them as a revolution - “I want to revolt from India to … a foreign private company who wants to exploit us then change ownership to the British crown, hurray!”

Can we please just STOP with the German/Indian split discussions? You have a system like no other “Age of” game has provided, a system that allows you to tailor your civ exactly as you want it to be, just so at the end of the day you come to the forum and complain that it isn’t enough and a split is the only outcome you can accept? It’s so absurdly obnoxious! There are so many other civs that could be added before we can even fathom another split, yet this specific conversation dominates the forum after every DLC release.

There was no need for an apology, Barnzy. You weren’t being harsh at all, you were just being sincere about how you felt.

Instead, can we stop pretending India and Germany are comparable?

Yeah, isn’t a civilization that speaks a single language, that have units representing factions that were enemies AND the people that colonized them, a perfect representation of a territory around as big as Europe? Not to mention the minor civs that mostly represent the same ethnic groups as the major factions.

Seriously though, can we stop pretending AoE3 Indians (and any TAD civ for that matter) is good representation of anything ever?

eso ya lo sabia, hace años colega

Yes, it’s a good option…

Exacto…son los mismos devs…

Well, it’s just one opinion and one more option…

That’s why an Asian DLC would finally allow for a rework of the Asian civs…

The “rework” of the current Indian civ would change some names around and add some new units/visuals. They are not getting rid of the British East India Company elements like Sepoys… ever. In fact, it might be a good idea to later add British Raj as Imperial Age up option alternative like how Japan has Meiji Restoration now. Cuts off all other consulate options but gives new bonuses/techs.

Self-Strengthening Movement could be a Chinese alternative age-up and it will finally deal with those requests for more “modernized” Chinese army units.

Now of course, there isn’t a whole lot of representation of the other empires in the Indian subcontinent during the AoE3 timeframe. They could do the Sikh Empire and Maratha Confederacy as full-on unique civs that might share some cards/units with the current Indian civ, add some new maps and native settlements etc. Would I suggest making this the next DLC pack, assuming we get any? Not a chance.

It’d be a better idea do add something actually Indian. The British Raj should be represented by the British or by a minor civ, not by the people they colonized.

For my idea to split Indians, they could simply rename (and appropriately reskin) anything not obviously Mughal while keeping stats, except monks and monasteries which I think need to be completely replaced. Anything else could be represented by one or two more major civs and new, non-religious minor civs (which would require more maps, but Asia already needs more maps.
