That’s why it would be an alternative age-up. The Indians lived thru the British Raj. The Raj came into being soon after the Mughal dissolved. It wouldn’t make sense to have British revolt into the British Raj nor would they work well as a minor civ as they ruled the subcontinent. This is a good way to show how the official British Indian Army was formed and incorporate some elements of the Madras Army and Bengal Army that aren’t in AoE3. Just an idea.
I already suggested unit reskins/name changes and all that if the Sikh Empire and Maratha Confederacy were confirmed to be released as major civs, but I’m not recommending a Sikh/Maratha DLC pack right now.
Yeah I’d make a (second) Asia DLC based on unexplored territories first, but if it’d have to come with reworks of the current Asians to be worth it to me, even if it didn’t come with the Indian split.
I’d also like to get a DLC based on South America.
Cards can always be renamed. And as for Sepoy, the Mughal Empire had sepoys. The East India Company’s use of the term “sepoy” was inherited from the Mughal Empire.
I think maybe the Ever Victorious Army and Beiyang Army could be changed to ship a combinaiton of “New Army Musketeers/Riflemen/Grenadiers.”. Basically, they could just be renamed versions of the Meiji infantry.
The Qing’s modernization was relatively unsuccessful, so their original units shouldn’t be replaced like the Meiji. These New Army units could only be available to chosen and spawn at the Summer Palace after those cards have been sent.
This is reasonable. There are just so many areas that AoE3 hasn’t really explored.
Also agree with a South American DLC. Some good choices include:
Mapuche civ for a native civilization. Fairly popular choice. Already in AoE2.
Brazil for a relatively straightforward Federal American civ, using the various provinces as age-up options. It’s a popular choice.
Gran Colombia would be interesting way to do more revolutions and incorporate additional Latin American country independence movements (Venezuela, Equador, etc.) and plenty of separatist juntas for age up options.
Full credit to untitledjuan for this age up/revolution concept:
Because Mexico is fun and because Gran Colombia lasted from 1819–1831 before breaking apart. Hard to make a full civ on that short timeline. I could’ve just gone with Colombians.
Eh each to their own. Mexico mechanics and card options allow for so much gameplay variety. Another civ could make use of something similar but that’s for another time. I’d be fine with updating the Gran Colombia revolution with extra cards in the meantime. Probably with more land-focused stuff since their improved navy doesn’t do much on non-water maps. Getting 2 Ironclads upon revolting is pointless if the player revolts in the Himalayas.
The whole thing of Mexico is the batshit crazy revolution-jumping nature of them, which comes with the cost that it’s far more complex in nature for first time/green players. To creat another Civ with very similar qualities would not be good game design
Sure, those are good options… if they don’t split the Indians, at least rework them to make them a more historically accurate civilization… you could move the Sepoy to the Industrial or Imperial Age (so it’s clear it’s a unit from the EIC) and keep the Rajput as a heavy unit from the Commerce Age (since it would be based on the Rajput sultanates), and that way it would be more or less correct…
Yes, the most I can think of is the British Raj (1858-1947) as a new British revolution, also adding possible Burmese units (if they include the Burmese as a new civilization alongside Siamese) after 1885…
It could be both…new Asian civilizations and at the same time reworks of existing Asian civilizations…
Yes, I would go for two Asian DLCs and in between, some South American federal civilization DLCs, like this:
Middle Eastern DLC: Persia and Oman (two well-known Persian Gulf civilizations)
First federal civilization DLC: Brazil or Argentina (Brazil could be first because it’s an empire and Portuguese-speaking, plus it has a larger population; the home city would obviously be Rio, but without Christ the Redeemer)
South American DLC: Burma and Siam (a South American DLC; both civilizations fought against the Europeans, and Siam was the only one of the two that withstood colonization, the other was annexed to the British Raj in 1885)…
Second federal civilization DLC: Argentina or Haiti (if you already have Brazil, the next one is obvious and it’s Argentina with Buenos Aires, using the Wotta/WoL mod as a base—although Haiti, also from WoL, could be a surprise, since it was also an empire and is French-speaking). There you have the 4 main languages of America)…
Yes, Colombia may be more focused on water and perhaps jungles (while Mexico is more focused on land and desert) (I know Mexico has jungles, but for that you already have the Mayan revolution)…
The British Raj (the colonial rule of the Crown over India) could be conceptualized as an option of revolution for British civilization, reflecting the historical transformation of the empire and the expansion of the British East India Company towards total control of the subcontinent.
Historical Justification:
Imperial evolution: Great Britain went from having isolated trading posts to consolidating a vast territorial domain after the rebellion of 1857, making India the core of its overseas power.
Transition mechanics: It would represent a political and economic change, similar to how other powers adopt dominions or viceroyalties in the game.
Potential Game Mechanics:
Economic Conversion: British manors could be adapted to produce sepoy infantry units or sepoy parties characteristic of the colonial era.
Home City Shipments: Modify the usual maritime shipments with Asian military reinforcements, sepoys and native Indian infantry or cavalry upgrades.
Military Focus: Replace standard European doctrine with an army focused on mixed colonial forces.
A fair point. I should be taking newer players into consideration. The devs are adding a new toggle above the Deck list that allows you to view the cards of revolutions available to that civ, which will make things easier for newer players. No more having to look up the Wiki all the time.
I did recommend a Brazil civ for a more “straightforward” Fed American civ. Maybe incorporate a separatist rebel movement like the Riograndense Republic as a revolution option or at least reference it.
A Gran Colombia civ age-up system like the one untitledjuan proposed here would incorporate additional Latin American independence movements such as those in Venezuela, Bolivia, and other countries. It would offer the chance to see new unit variations and HCC cards while also giving those countries some representation in AoE3. But I’d be happy with an improved Gran Colombia revolt too.
I would really appreciate another revolution bonus for players that revolt into Gran Colombia on land. Instead of 2 Ironclads, give us a heavy cannon instead.
Maya is such a fun revolt. It really changes how the Mexico civ normally plays.
I did propose British Raj as an alternative age-up option for India, but I guess a British revolt option could work?
Yeah, I agree. I much prefer the pace and overall gameplay of the US to Mexico’s for other Federal States
Mexico’s chaotic and convoluted gameplay isn’t very appealing to me. I think that style could overshadow the defining characteristics of other possible civilizations.
If Malta is one of the civilizations in the game, then Switzerland could certainly be one too. I think a DLC featuring Austria and Switzerland would be very interesting. It could be released after an expansion focused on new Asian factions.
Mexico can be pretty chaotic even taking revolts out of the equation. Mostly due those “Plan” cards. Plan of Tuxtepec for example: turning all Salteadores into Soldados and boosting their range. The sheer mass of Soldados can be overwhelming.
If for whatever reason they make a Swiss DLC, it would be based on the Swiss Confederacy (1291–1798) and the Thriteen Cantons. I’m not sure who would make a good AI personality for the Swiss… maybe Guillaume Henri Dufour or Jonas Furrer, depending on the theme. Helvetic Republic could be a “revolt” option while the Imperial Age would lean towards federal Switzerland, based on Swiss Federal Constitution and reforms after the restoration period.
Yes, as a British revolution it would make more sense since the East India Company is originally British (as shown in the campaign) and the Raj government was British… the Indians would have to be at most Mughals and Marathas (Rajput too, but he’s already a unit of theirs)… in fact, this is the flag the EIC has in the game and it’s very similar to the British one, and below is the one they had in the original game…
Yes, their AI it could be Henry Dufour (since he’s the AI in the Napoleonic Era mod), plus Henri Dufour is more famous (he “found” the Red Cross and Napoleon III was even his student) than Jonas Furrer…
