Coming Soon! The Age II: DE December Update

Good day friends, medieval historians, battle connoisseurs, and to all you lords and ladies of the Ages!

To say the least, it’s been a busy month since the release of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! Over here at World’s Edge, we’ve been hard at work gathering your feedback, prioritizing your requests and bug reports, and helping our development partners while they work to build and test the latest improvements to the Definitive Edition.

And they’ve been busy; so busy, in fact, that next week we will be releasing the largest update an Age of Empires game has ever seen. The team has put together a holiday package with over a hundred bug fixes, gameplay improvements, and even some brand-new features to improve your experience.

Here’s a small snippet of some of the big highlights:

  • Game Stability Improvements & Crash Fixes
  • Civilization and Unit Balance Changes
  • Balance Changes for the Cumans and Steppe Lancer
  • NEW! Map Ban System for Ranked Matchmaking!
  • Updated Map Pool for Ranked Matchmaking
  • Lobbies & Matchmaking Improvements
  • Campaign Balance and Achievement Fixes
  • NEW! Campaign Completion Medals!
  • AI & Pathfinding Improvements
  • Art of War Challenge Missions now have Localized Voice-Overs

Our developer friends have been working to improve (quite literally) every aspect of the game, and they’re not done yet! While next week will introduce changes based on this first month of the Definitive Edition, we’re already hard at work planning out the next systems you’ve highlighted as a community!

And with that in mind, remember that you have the power to inspire change! We’re always looking for feedback, suggestions, and bug reports over on our official forums and here on Steam, where there are already thousands of players discussing the game. If there’s something you’d like to see changed or added following next week’s build, go see if someone has started a discussion about it! If they haven’t, then there’s no better time to kick off a thread than right now!

While you’re waiting, let us know if there’s anything you want to know about before the patch drops next week…perhaps we can get away with sharing more details about what’s on the way!

Happy December!

—The Age of Empires Team

Finally found this

Also seems like very nice update, cant wait to try it out!

This answer the question i made here: December Patch is Coming to Launch Soon?

Thank for the news

Keep Fight against that bugs Fellow Dev Knights :crossed_swords:

Hopefully a lot of low spec users can finally play the game.

I think this feature needs some attention. It’ll be very helpful for modding community.

I don’t know if there will be more light the game :frowning:, it is too much things and graphics in this game to run in old or with low specs, dunno, but if they made it it will be wondeful news

Already in the news  HYPED ALREADY!!

Amazing news!

Please add the ability to reconnect to a game. That would make random crashes not a big deal anymore.

Can we have more scenario editor units and eye candy. Some useful suggestions in this thread below. Maybe also the Middle Eastern and Asian monks getting their own skins from Imam and Chand Bardai. Thanks!

We’ve definitely heard this feedback, and it is on our list to see what can be done!

The good news is that there are several crash fixes coming with next week’s build which will hopefully resolve the root of the matter. If that is not the case, be sure to post a thread over in the DE forum so we can continue to explore solutions!

We’ve heard this feedback and it is on our radar! There are some scenario editor improvements coming with next week’s patch, and we’ll continue making improvements as we prioritize and build new systems.

What about better spectating functionality?

The archers for eastern/African civilisations are sorely needed I feel. I hope this will be added.

On the new Patch will fix the problem with the Multiplayer Profile? It shows that Celtics are my main civ

+1 here. I appreciate the size of the patch, but with streamers still having issues and the first official tournament set for early January, I had hoped that would be in the notes? Perhaps it just isn’t mentioned, I hope?

Yeah currently even if you meet the minimum specs, the game will destroy your ram or GPU and the game will crash. It’s frustrating because computers above the minimum specs can’t play it even without the graphics enhancements.

Or for now at least please make Omkar’s Historical Units and Architecture playable without a data mod.

Will i need to go through EVERY campaign again (for medals)??

Are the following things fixed?

  • flickering of xolotl east facing standing animation
  • riderless horse(available in steppe maps) accelerating in certain directions
  • scaling of UI unselectable
  • game crashing when ip address of internet changes
  • arrows sticking to ground (arambai darts fallen on the ground added so much depth)
  • player color on icon portrait

at the very least it would be great to get a wingless hussar for asia/africa. maybe as a scenario editor unit that can be used…
