The error still (2020-03-08) exists and can not reconnect to multiplayer service few seconds.
I’m struggling to view recorded games, get kicked out with a “tampering software detected” warning.
Anyone else get this ?
After 2 months of waiting for a fix I decided to try a game out today. Hosted a game with 7 AI to try and test if I crash or not. Smooth as butter. But I guess actual multiplayer is where the problem originates. Hosted a 4 v 4 BF on uswest, was keeping my finger’s crossed when I made it way past the usual 4-5 minute DC time.
However, my happiness was short lived as the game soon DCd after maybe 2-3 minutes. So… well, I can play for a total of say 9-10 minutes now instead of 5 so that’s double the improvement I guess. Getting the same message:
I did a few things differently this time. Maybe any of those steps helped the game last longer?
-Tuned all graphics settings to the lowest possible
-Created a lobby instead of joining one
-Signed in to XBox live from the main menu before matchmaking.
To reiterate, Single player games work fine, multiplayer games hosted over the servers with no actual players (All bots) work fine too. I am only Disconnecting on multiplayer games (Lobby/unranked) with actual players.
Haven’t tried using a VPN yet but I don’t want to spend money monthly to subscribe to a VPN to play Age of Empires. Below I have provided other requested details if that helps.
- ISP: Comcast Cable communications / United States
- Router: NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S AC3200 Model C7800
- System: Windows 10 x64, AMD ryzen 3, 8 GB Ram, RX570 4 GB.
Hope this is fixed soon. Really need to get playing again, need the motivation to work on my old Age2 map remakes! Honestly, I’m just being lazy on that, the editor works fine btw and i love the new quality of life improvements there, i honestly haven’t found any other problem in the game for me besides the major one, DC in Online Multiplayer.
Dunno. I have been disconnected while sitting in a multiplayer lobby with 7 AIs.
You might just have been lucky, since sometimes the disconnect takes much longer than 5 min.
Hasn’t it been solved today? what a shame.
The same problem, the game works very well and the network code is not capricious for ping and Internet speed, but after exactly 5 minutes the game loses touch. If you connect a PC to a mobile phone, then everything works.

…112 days now
The disconnects continue here, after 5-10 minutes into the game. It also loses connection with the multiplayer services from time to time, and somehow the game lost track of my completed challenges from the anniversary event (I had to do the conversion challenge twice to get to the next one). Not sure if both issues are related though.
I’ve tried the Betternet VPN service (the free version) and it seemed to work fine. No disconnects during the match and no disconnects from the Multiplayer services on the main menu.
My ISP works very well on several online games and services and I didn’t have any problems with AoE2:DE Multiplayer gaming before the 27th february patch.

Alright so I recently tried using a VPN as some have suggested and for SOME reason this actually works. This workaround shouldn’t be a permanent solution and I’m not sure it works for everyone but I highly recommend you try if you haven’t yet. The only problem with this is my ping is way higher because of it and I can’t handle games that go crazy in army size.
Which VPN service are you using?
I’m using Betternet atm and it works, but it is a bit laggy sometimes.
12th March 2020 - I am also having disconnects ranging from 2-10 minutes into a game. This happens using a network cable and on wifi however it does not happen when using my phone as a hot spot.
I have even tried creating a lobby with just myself and one AI player and it still disconnects.
Using Windows 10 and Steam version of AOE2 DE. I have tried disabling power management on the network adapter as well as wake on magic packet but neither seemed to help.
There are no logs in event viewer to suggest anything went wrong and also my internet connection is fine, it is only the games network connection that drops.
I also have another issue randomly the game will slow down to a stop and eventually freeze forcing me to close, however if it hit pause the game speeds up and I can unpause and continue to play as normal.
Its been a while now any input please Mr Dev?
Enough, it’s time to sue that company or give me my money back.
It’s been 4 months now and still not a single feedback from the devs, apart from “we need more information blabla”. Seriously? They got tons of information now. This is a joke.
We just want to play the game we PAID for, is it too much to ask?
i solved this problem after i started using VPN. But i don’t think that should be the solution to this problem…
I tried the VPN solution, but it happen during play using the VPN, i use the same VPN as other mention before
(remember back in Aoe3 when it has the same problem back then)
seriously its reccuring Microsoft game problem can you put a Reconnection system like all modern game?
1- They have a user-system account
2- They have the servers
From this point is more HARD NOT TO DO such a system, then actually DO.
Is so DUMB.
The SALTY thing about VPN is…
IF The game lags… you don’t know who to blame… the VPN or DE.
BTW 117 Days CRITICAL PROBLEM…
