Haha… I’ve seen a few other players with their names filtered so I think the issue will get some attention soon.
theres a bunch of words / text that is filtered by accident, i think its an error in the algo… at one point catapult was beign censored, cant remember what else, but had a few in game items censored

I was trying to tell a friend about a movie. I wrote, “You must watch until the end though, no sleeping.” Which got bleeped out entirely. After a string of tests and confusing *** msgs from me to other player, getting behind in the conversation, and losing the natural flow of conversation, it turns out the chat filter didn’t like this part: “You must watch”
Wow. Juuuust a little sensitive.
There was another one earlier in the game that I wish I could remember, but it was similarly innocent and even more confounding. Can someone mod the chat filter away for non-ranked private matches?

My name is censored too don’t want you to feel like you’re alone. It’s amazing how they still haven’t changed this feature with this censor filter yet with all the back lash it’s getting everywhere. I’ve become a strong advocate on this forum myself complaining how pathetic it is. At some point people have to grow up and be exposed to the elements of society. This game, however, treats us like kids and I’ve never seen a game like it. Every other game I played you can turn off the profanity filter. This one you can’t because Microsoft is a bunch of morons.

The worst part is it will flag even with the inbuilt chat commands.
Either remove it or make it so we can turn it off. Its bloody annoying flagging everytime I write ‘I’m attacking here’

Honestly wanted to make a seperate thread just to talk not about whether a language filter should or shouldn’t be enforced in the game, but that the filter itself is completely broken.
Communicating in team games is important, I play a lot of 4v4’s and 3v3’s in the ranked matchmaking sytem. I need to sometimes tell my teammates things, like if some guy is using mass pykes against a patrol stacked group of lancers and doesn’t know that once they hit a critical mass they trade really well, I need to tell him to build archers to counter it.
At this point I dont even know what words are allowed or not, with the current profanity filter random words are blocked which then blocks the entire message. So far I’ve found that the word I or i, if in your message, will block the entire thing, other than that I think ‘make’ is also blocked but I can’t be sure becaue there is absolutely no pattern to what is ok to say and what isnt.
“I’ll flank” “I will make archers” “I will castle into knights” “we’re screwed” “I’m fine now thanks for the help” “I’m getting wrecked” (is it ‘wrecked’ or ‘I’m’ thats getting me blocked? who knows, find out next time on microsofts great decision making) - Random sentences are completely blocked out by this filter. EVEN TAUNTS are blocked, If I type 1 or 2 to an ally in the message as shorthand at the start of a sentence the entire thing will get blocked along with it.
General communication in this game is reliant on the very simple ping system and chat. Unless you want to copy other games and build a super complex ping system to copy league or apex then allow me to talk to my teammates. Last game I had to write and entire sentence out 5 times to warn my teammate about a rush because it blocked it over and over and I stilll don’t even know what it was blocking.
Maybe veteran players dont need type with each other to communicate but I have about 50 hours of gametime and many of the people in my MMR bracket have even less. This is costing us games and is incredibly frustrating whether we have actual profanity blocked or not.

xbox live’s profanity filter is bugged, ageofempires team is aware of it and said they are working on it, but its not completely up to them because its a xbox live bug, and obviously microsoft is pushing them into using it
meanwhile, until they fix it, you can just sign out of xbox live in the main menu, and you will see a much lighter and reasonable filters. it only filters the swear words like F word or stuffs like that, and most importantly it never censors the complete sentence, it only filters the word that are intended to be filtered, not the whole sentence

Unpopular opinion perhaps.
But besides the filter, I find saying stuff like ‘ez’ despicable.
Just like most sports, it’s very important to show grattitude and respect towards people that go against you, especially when it is over.
Hearing that this should be normal holds me back to even start playing online, picture someone who is unexperienced against human players, goes online, and after losing the first match.

Option would be to mute other players by default, but I would prefer players just show some respect and sportmanship.
Because without those players, you would be having a lot less fun.

Hello! After the new patch , this filter is the same . I can’t even say , I , ,1, ,11, , and this is so annoying . I think that this filter is useless . As @HungryGem9793 said , there should be a ,mute, button . If you don 't want to recive messages from a player , you can mute him. Or you can try to improve this filter . I think that you can censore just the ,ilegal, word , not all message . There are too many words which can be ,ilegal, in a context , but the same word , in a different context can be harmless .
I really think that we are a nice community , i didn ’ t saw any insulting message in an online game. So , censore is useless.
And this game is for 12 or14+(i don’t remember well) years old persons . Why AoE 2 should be family friendly ?
