Fall Community Map Making Competition!

Welcome to the Fall map making competition!

In this season we’re adding a new category for map concepts. All you need for a map concept is an image of the map layout, made however you prefer. Scenario editor, image manipulator, etc.

Take a look at all of the submitted maps and map concepts, and mark your calendars for the end of the season when we can all vote for our favorites.

On Nov 18th submissions close, and voting begins! Check back to stay up to date on any new submissions added.

Submitting Maps

If you want to submit a map, simply share it below. When it’s time to vote I’ll go through the thread and create a poll for both the random maps and map concepts.

Guidelines for submissions:

  • There are now two categories: Map Scripts and Map Concepts.
  • Map scripts need to have a playable RM map script
  • Map Concepts only need an image of the map layout
  • I encourage you to submit maps that are tied to the season in some way. That can mean:
    • It was released this season

My map concept: FJORDS

Based on Norway Fjords has a landmass filling the eastern and middle map with the west going in a semi circle being water.

In the centre is a large mountain (coloured grey) which has caverns (coloured brown) that hold an assortment of mines (coloured gold/yellow).

The coast has a trading lane marked Orange with the trading spots also marked orange.

The town center locations is the large Pink X. Red marks natural food sources like fish and deer while the gold in water marks whales.

The light green area in the west between the 2 fjords is a lightly forested area complete with berry bushes and some small hunts. The Dark green Areas are more dense Forrest that is nearly impassable but which holds a lot of deer herds.

My Concept: Watering Hole

Players start with very few natural resources close to their settlement - just some berries, a small herd on a cliff closeby and one tin mine. But the water hole in the center attracts plenty of herd. Compete for monopoly over a single diamond mine near the north, or chop your way through dense forest to several ore deposits in between cliffs to the south. Meanwhile, the long cliff in the north has a long trade route as well, but one may need to cut their way through the jungle to reach it, and cutting out the other way can provide a sneaky way into the enemy base!

Plenty of wood to gather on this map, but lots of fish and native settlements means a lot of ways to use that wood too.

Natives: Berbers, Yoruba, Jesuits, Somali, Sudanese

Love your artstyle, also cool concept. is there any shallows that allows one to enter the south western peninsular? Or is it cut off?

Thanks! Yes, the cliff on the southwest you can walk on top to get the hunt.

Edit: Oh sorry I get your question now @Jonasnee8581, the peninsula is accessible by fishing boat! No shallows.

Map Script - Laurentia

Teams start on opposing sides of the St. Lawrence estuary. The river gradually narrows to shallows which can be forded. Fight in the choke point of the shallow crossing or bypass it by building a navy. Ally with native Huron and Jesuits, or tap into the trade flowing to and from the Great Lakes.

This is my first map, so feedback from anyone who tries it out is welcome. It can be found here:

Map Script - Sovereign Hill
Technically here in Australia, it is spring, so heres an Australian Season map.

RMS Map is set in Australia, Victoria, Ballarat, Sovereign Hills. Rich in resources, especially gold, colonies race for gold and wealth. As a result of the gold rush, nations from around the world, including China, Spain, and Britain (the not convicts one), have established their own presence in the region to claim their share of the wealth. Newly formed territories, communities and immigrants compete for control over the gold, with a population capacity of 500 and 2x economic units to support their expansion.

Supports FFA , 2v2v2v2, KOTH and normal teams.

Very cool to see some submissions and concepts already, it looks like I have some catching up to do!

Cuenca del Volga
volga2
Forajidos: Hajduk, Aventurero cosaco.

Roanoke

This is a map made just in time for Halloween set around the lost colony of Roanoke. Explore the settlement and be wary of what may be lurking in the woods!

I’m adding one current and two upcoming maps from the Age of Pirates mod:

1/ Hawaii - currently implemented

Players start on smaller areas connected with the central volcano island. Resources on these peninsulas are limited and most of the resources are placed in the volcano island in the center. The volcano erupts randomly and damages or destroys all units and buildings on the central island. So you have to be very careful.

Natives: Maori, Pirates
Resources: Feral pigs, Jade mines, Pineapples, Fishes, Whales

The map also has a special PvP variant and KotH support

2/ Riverina - upcoming

South-Australian region with a river in the middle. The shores are connected (on the north by bridges, on the south by shallows) The northern area is divided by cliffs and a waterfall.

Natives: Aboriginal Australians, Penal Colony
Resources: Emu, Red Kangaroo, Gold mine, Australian Perch (river fish)

The map has also KotH support.

3/ Cook Islands - upcoming

Another Oceania map has a rich underwater life and many purely underwater resources that can be gathered only by divers. Large team islands (similar to the Caribbean) and a water trade route. The underwater world and the divers can be unlocked through Inventor settlement or through one of the special treasures that are unique to this map.

Natives: Maori, Pirates, Inventors
Resources: Feral pig, Jade Mine, Pearls, Fishes, Squids, Fish colonies, Octopuses, Underwater Pearls, Underwater Shipwrecks, Underwater Mineral Mines

The map has a special design for PvP and full KotH support.

4/ Eyre Basin - upcoming

Great red salt lake in the middle. Part of the lake is shallow and hosts plenty of salt mines. Part of the lake is deep and hosts fish and water salt mines which can be gathered by fishing boats. There is a trade route all around the lake. This trade route can be also used to send an armored train.

Natives: Aboriginal Australians, Penal Colony, Inventors
Resources: Kangaroos, Emus, Salt mine, Salt floe, Berry bushes, Fish

The map is perfect for PvP gameplay and also supports KotH.
