Filthydelphia's Campaign Collection

Dear Ramsey,
I would like to ask two questions many fans seem to be asking themselves now:

  1. Will the mod versions of the scenarios appearing in V&V remain available?
  2. Do you receive a (substantial) percentage share of the revenue from this DLC? (as it is practically UGC)?
    Thank you.

Hello! I would like to know how different is the AoE2 Drake campaign compared to the AoE3 (I still have to complete it).

I don’t think they vary…Drake in the Spanish Main in 2 DE and Raid on the Caribbean in 3 DE are played more or less in the same way (Brits vs Spanish colonies)…the only thing that varies are the events described, in Drake it is the 1572 expedition and in Raid on the Caribbean is the expedition of 1585-1586 (a year before the game’s tutorial)…

Hello filthydelphia,
I have honestly enjoyed your campaigns on the ‘Victors and Vanquished’ dlc and even the custom ones.
I was wondering for a while If you can do some campaigns about the Islamic conquests during the Rashidun Caliphate or the Umayyad Caliphate or maybe some of their famous battles due to the lack of Arabian and Islamic focused campaigns compared to other civs.
You obviously know some of the generals like Khalid Ibn Al-Walid and Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqqas and many other notorious generals.
I think It will be a great addition to the game due to these caliphates influence on the world at that time and their battles with the Byzantine and Sassanid empires.

Isn’t Saladin the Arabian campaign?

Weren’t Tariq, Saladin, Babur and Timur muslims

he should do it honestly, with the support of the rest of the devs… i still feel a bit scammed (a lot really) with that DLC by playing stuff that was already free on mod browser, don’t get me wrong i like Filthydelphia’s maps and i appreciate his work but we all wanted something new with the DLC, not just monetized custom maps from the mod page.

Saladin and Tariq campaigns are outdated and short campaigns with not much story and love added to them which is understandable because they belong to classic aoe2… so including new arabian/berber campaigns is not a bad idea, or include another giant map to conquer with Saladin’s armies would be good enough.

I have to agree with others. I’m no noob but the lack of villagers is just frustrating. It’s a huge map and if you’re attacking while being attacked, even leaving 4-5 Norsemen and Berserkers in the area, it’s real easy to lose a villager. This deviation simply isn’t supported by history. I’m a history buff and every civilization has workers. I like a challenge but this is one of the most frustrating campaigns I have played and I’ve played AOE since it rolled out in the late 1990’s.

My default is simply to just restart the game and try more guards but, again, this isn’t factually correct.

Good luck if you end up with no priests and no villagers. Resign and start again.

This is one of the most frustrating campaigns I have ever played. The decay on boats, lack of adequate villagers and virtually no stone for upgrades makes me want to go to another campaign but I truly want to complete this one. I’ve played AOE since the late 1990’s so I’m no noob.

In that case, a new Mongol (there’s already a mongol campaign since AoK, like Saladin) or Ethiopian (there’s already an Ethiopian campaign, since AK, like Tariq) campaign is not a bad idea either

It’s not as bad as it looks. A few tips from someone that’s completed it way too many times:

  • Begin by raiding the isolated islands and Ireland. There’s a lot of heroes around that will give you a big boost early on, and some free villagers in Ireland. The heroes are also very good for challenging the other Viking Jarls.

  • Put a palisade gate or walls up blocking entrance to your starting base until you’re ready to take on the other Vikings.

  • Build longhouses EVERYWHERE. You never know which islands and areas will count as a new region and give you a free villager in the longhouse when it’s finished.

  • Place palisades on every single inch of the coast on the land mass you start on once you begin conquering it. This will prevent the raiders from landing; it might sound like a pain, but it’s worth it. Just put a palisade gate in the fence somewhere to leave an opening for your transports. The more fencing you have down, the fewer directions you have to worry about raids coming from.

  • Once you have the economy to transition from heroes to units, build nothing but Berserks. You have a lot of options available, but in my opinion, nothing beats Berserk self-healing for resource efficiency. As long as you use rams for fortifications Berserks will kill just about everything else. Jarls are also a great option, but more expensive.

  • Blots are your friend. You may want to save scum a bit because it’s a rare result but one of the possible results stops your ships from decaying. They also give you free stone for upgrades frequently.

  • Keep your villagers close to home whenever possible once the fence is up. It’s okay to send them out to build, especially when you have a lot, but it’s much safer to ship animals back to your base than it is to carve them up where you find them.

  • Challenge the Jomsvikings as soon as you can build up a force of 20 Boyars from the stable in the east. Boyars wreck Jomsvikings; place some Longboats near their base to kill their Longboats and land the Boyars, then let them go to town. Winning this challenge ends the raids and lets you leisurely clear the rest of the map.

yeah man, there’s not just one leader for every civilization so we can have many historical commanders/leaders from the same civilization and make a campaign for each one. One of them being for example Subutai, to me he was one of the most skilled Mongol commanders ever, it’s no surprise he appears in two campaigns lol

Malakryptum,

Thanks for the tips. I had figured out some of them but I was unaware of what Blots truly did. I researched can couldn’t find anything. So Blots give you stone. Great to hear. Which upgrades do you feel should be learned first?

I learned quickly that if your boats get to 1/3 life, you better find land and repair quickly. I lost two with 20 army, 2 priests, 2 villagers and 6 livestock. I almost through my mouse at the screen but it was my stupidity.

I did figure out one of the best things to do right off the bat was to take a villager with a couple of warriors to the far north west as there is a priest there to kill but then food and gold there. Build a longhouse and put one villager on each one. As far as I can see, it is not visited by any enemy, or at least not until the gold and food is exhausted and them you can get them harvesting bushes for wood.

I’m not sure what you mean by 'save s##### Can you elaborate?

It means saving like every two seconds.

Save scumming is when you make a save, do something, and if you don’t get the result you want, reload the save until you do. So you would save, hold a blot, and then reload if it’s something you don’t need. The odds are so low on the (in my opinion) best result that you can easily blow through thousands of food and gold before getting immunity to ship decay, so it’s best to keep reloading until you get it.

For upgrades, I would prioritize Ulfberht Swords, Shield Wall, and Dane Axes. The others are very situational and I would only bother with Bearded Axes if you’re switching to Jarls, and Bogsveigar if you’re about to fight the Jomsvikings or send Longboats into France. Elite Berserk is also a must-have when it’s available.

Yeah I don’t think Ragnar is that hard, however I play it on standard.
I think what people usually have troubles is understanding the mechanics when there are a lot and adopting/adapting to a strategy when it deviates too much from build and destroy.
I’m personally terrible at build and destroy so to me it’s easier when I have to deviate from the formula but we’re not all the same, that’s true.

Yes, I agree, we need campaigns from the 6th and 7th centuries (Bukhara and Dos Pilas do not count because they are historical battles and Yamato is AoE 1)… we lack a good Byzantine campaign (like Justinian or Belisarius, since Bari I’m still not convinced) and some great scenarios with the Saracens outside of Saladin (like the rise of the Umayyads and then the Abbasids)…Pakal the Great (r. 615-683) for the Mayans would also be good…

Well Mongols we have Temujin and from AoK, Genghis Khan and his sons onwards… a scenario of Kublai Khan (1260-1294) attacking China, Burma, Vietnam and Japan would be good… then the Rise of the Golden Horde of Batu Khan to Toqtamish (1242-1370)…

Yes, they are not difficult, but in the Viking maps you have to save a lot… I am going through both versions of Ragnar and just now I am about to devastate Mercia with battering rams and berserkers and everything (I really want them to devastate xd)…

I’ve enjoyed your campaign collection so far but needed some guidance on Ragnar to get on the right path.

However, I hit a snag on Bjorn Ironside. I completed everything but when I went to bring the princesses and relic to the main camp wonder, the princesses went inside but I can’t get the relic to move at all. So I completed at the town center.

I made a screenshot. I don’t know if this is a bug or I missed something required to move the relic.

Any feedback would be grateful.

A question about the Fetih scenario – are the Byzantine vils of any significance? And what strategic relevance is there to the sea borne reinforcements?

my guess is that the enemy vils are just there for the eye candy since the enemy seems to have unlimited rss… then again it’s not like they need them with all those 500 red enemy troops glitching themselves inside the city
