How to move on from V&V

On a more positive note - AoE 2 DE peaked at 30k players on Steam earlier today. That’s the first time since March 2021.

I realized yesterday that Devapala’s constant Star Wars prequel meme references in the dialogue are probably another attempt by the devs to appeal to a younger crowd. While I am of the younger crowd (I am 22) and love prequel memes, so I find those references funny, I can see how they would be irritating to the majority of the fanbase.

That stuff is getting a lot more complicated recently because of the big difference in inflation between countries.
So if you live in a country that has a higher inflation compared the to the US Dollar then they should probably increase the price, right?
But that makes it look strange because suddenly different DLC have different prices.
Figuring out the right price for every country is not that easy. It has to be affordable for people there (obviously) but you also want to make some money.
Turkish lira is worth less then 1/5 in USD as it was when AoE2DE released in 2019.
Considering that the DLC also cost 50% more in USD that would mean 7.5x as expensive in Turkey?

Here in Europe it’s usually 1$=1€ for the price of a game but sometimes it isn’t.

And then we haven’t even talked about if the prices are before and after tax, which is also not the same in every country or even every state/province of a country.

I can see why this goes wrong sometimes. But it’s probably spending more time on figuring out the best value, since it can determine how often you can sell the DLC/game.

did you reply before reading the whole message? I gave very clear examples on how did they messed up that ಠ_ಠ
Im not talking about inflation and taxes, but something like “lets roll the dice to see how much we charge it in this and that region and between plataforms”, like it was an RPG

I read your post and I’m pretty sure they just mixed up numbers and didn’t do it on purpose.
The Steam Store and Microsoft Store have different default pricing for the different regions so something like that can happen.
I guess changing the price afterwards is not easy. Like do you have to pay the people back that bought it with the wrong price? Is that even possible. What happens to the cut the store gets when you pay people back? And so on.

I still think they should fix those prices though.

But how many of those are xbox rewards AFKers?

It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

sorry, not sorry

None as Xbox reward lobbies are all hosted by MS/Xbox accounts. These are the figures for Steam only

All other AOE titles, DLCs and comestics have the same price between both plataforms.
It shouldnt be a hard thing to do, as back in AOE3DE they fixed the price in 5 regions right after Evangelos replying about that being a mistake, as I linked above, also offering the refund to all those who had already pre-ordered the game. Now, in TMR case, many months have passed already, so I doubt they would, or even can, refund anyone, but still no excuse to not fix it.

Though I’m no fan I like SW. I love that SW reference in Saladin and don’t have nothing against all those in Devapala. They make sense and are in context. I believe devs love SW and simply wanted to pay homage to one of their favourite cultural references. It’s ok.

But storytelling is becoming corny and a little bit teenager-ish. I don’t think it is necessary. I play this game since I was 12 yo and loved its dark, somber ambience.

I guess when people get very mad with the game they play the game.
Weird.

Not many people understand inflation it seems. 10 euros in 2024 is not the same with 10 euros in 2022. That being said, this is the cheapest DLC at launch that they ever had, and the quality is good.

Also, 13 euros is less then a meal at a restaurant, if you think it is much, don’t go eating there.

P.s. They said it from the start: ‘‘it will be a single player DLC’’ so multiplayer only people are not the audience for this, nobody asked their opinion at all  because they are not supposed to buy it in the first place.

Then fact that it’s a single player DLC is not the issue. We knew it wouldn’t have multiplayer content.
The issues are:

  • It doesn’t include a single campaign despite being promised a campaign focused DLC.
  • It barely includes new content
  • The old content has not really been improved. Still has old bugs, almost no changes and awful voice acting.
  • Some missions are the same scenario from different perspectives, they should not count as different scenarios.
  • The DLC costs more then old DLC despite offering a lot less content.

Imagine going to a restaurant, paying 30% more for your meal, getting half as much as 2 years ago and it’s just microwaved food from the day before.

I need to know what exactly “they” “polished”. They could have AT LEAST create a mounted samurai unit for that Japanese campagnario. 13 bucks ain’t a lot really but spending it on this is encouraging bad practice. Honestly I would laugh real hard if they made a pathing dlc.

Already discussed about inflation, this DLC is the cheapest DLC at launch they ever had. The other DLCs value has decreased over time instead because that’s how money works.

If you refer to workshop content as the old content, that is not old content for me and for all those that have no such huge amount of free time to search the workshop for what is good and what is bad regarding custom mods.
It is something new for all of us that are happy with this DLC. So for us the entire content of this DLC is new and its a lot for the money charged.

you are one of them.
first of all: inflation affects different goods differently. There have been huge layoffs in the video game/tech industry, so wages are stagnant. Server costs are going down as technology improves. So what justifies inflation?

But let’s take your “inflation” argument anyway:
Inflation since 2020 is 20%. I wouldn’t mind paying 13 eur for a DLC that contains as much as previous DLCs (be it 2 civs and 3 campaigns, or 5 new campaigns, etc). The complaint is that this DLC contains a fraction of the previous DLCs.

correct, 10 eur in 2022 is about 10 eur and 71 cents now.

Abso-fucking-lutely wrong. Even ignoring the animated icon DLCs.

Dawn of the Dukes:
9.99 at launch after inflation: 11
Dynasties of India:
9.99 at launch after inflation: 10.70

They might also have had a discount at launch. But even without it they are cheaper than V&V with the preorder discount. So don’t spread lies.

Also none of this takes into account that these DLCs contained 4-5x as much content. So really this new DLC is 400-500% more expensive. That’s not how inflation works.

no it isn’t. No new hero units, unique buildings or assets of any type. Voice acting by a single actor, no other spoken lines, recycled background art and menu art. no bug fixes. If this is high quality what would constitute low quality?

strawman argument. nobody here is complaining about this being a single player DLC. We want a singleplayer DLC, I’d be happy to spend 7-8 eur for 3 full high-quality campaigns.
I am not willing to spend 13 eur for 5 campaigns, or 2 new civs and 3 campaigns or something else that’s equivalent

a lie. just a straight up lie

Where do you live to have an inflation of >30%?

I get why they went from 10$ to 15$, since it’s kinda ugly to have other values inbetween.
But this on is 13$ which is a very of choice in many ways.

Huge free time?
It’s the most popular map creator for AoE2, it’s very easy to find his content.
I encourage you to try out some of his other scenarios, including the RoR ones if you got that DLC.

Not sure who this DLC is for because it doesn’t even take 5 minutes to find his scenarios for free and the DLC doesn’t really add anything to them nor does it fix bugs in those scenarios.

A lie, straight up lie. I’ve read over 100 comments regarding the ‘‘no multiplayer addition in this DLC!’’ complaint both on this forums and on YouTube and other media.

A lie, straight up lie. Check the shinobi/spy unit of Mori clan or the Kenshin Uesugi hero, or Otomo Sorin hero in the Nobunaga scenario. and this is just one example.

This was discounted at launch with 9,87 euros when I preordered it on Steam from Romania, making it the cheapest content DLC at launch ever.
So you understand inflation but you don’t understand math.

So all of your arguments are proved wrong, I think you are just toxic regarding this brand and this community. If 9.87 euros is too much for you for more then 20 hours of content, I suggest working harder and finding a better job or simply not complaining on something that is not mandatory to buy and that is not affecting your game at all.

People here all complain about this DLC being this expensive despite being Single Player only.
Why does it cost more (even adjusted for inflation!) then DLC that also offer new civilisations?

Ninjas where in the game already.

You can use triggers to rename units in the Editor and you can also remove the hero glow to make heroes look like normal units.

The other DLC were also often launched with a sale.

If they can make a profit by doing so little effort why should they put the work in to make a real DLC again in the future.

Nothing wrong with making a single player DLC, but there is something wrong when that DLC is just free content repackaged, not even fixed, with some bad voice acting and then soled for a higher price then previous content.

The awful Steam reviews reflect what people think about this DLC.
And those reviews are just from the people that actually bought it, not people that knew they don’t want a Single Player DLC.
