I dont like the Bulgarian Cavalier being better than the Malian one

They get evreything better in imperial age because Malians are better in every other age. You are basically asking a balance change because yes

I would say Bulgarians are slightly better on early feudal and late castle age.

No, Im asking it because an imperial age UT ends up being most of the time worse than a castle age one and Bulgarians have a cavalier that they never use because they have Konniks despite those being better than the Malian ones. I have already said that its something that only matters like the 1% of the games Bulgarians play either way (and it wont change balance at all) and its in practice the same, even still giving them the best hussars. Tbh I prefered when Bulgarians had Paladins since there was more contrast beetwen the knight line and the Konnik but I guess it is what it is

As a guy who really like konnik, they arenot used frequently. It is a largely cavalier most people go for. You only really see konnik with a kerpost rush. Otherwise you just dont build enough and its easier to go castle stables. I personally dont see why konniks arnt used more. They are slower and slower attack but that infantry unit is nice to clear the pikes. (Thats probably why people dont like researching all the techs)

Bulgarian paladin was ultimately quite redundant, as you ended with two expensive late game cavalry options, and after the konnik nerf ofc everyone was going for the familiar option with paladins, especially since konniks are trickier to use against archers. Stirrups cavalier on the contrary let you go for a cheaper to upgrade version. People are still going for cavalier over konnik because it’s just more convenient, so nerfing stirrups would reinforce this bias and make people use konniks less often.

I dont want to nerf Konniks btw, they would have the base RoF slightly increased to overcome the Stirrups nerf.

My problem with Bulgarian cavalier is that it feels like just a cheaper version of the Konnik while the Paladin feels like a unit that fills a diferent role compared to them

But both elite konniks and paladins are late-game heavy cav…

One is anti melee the other is anti archer imo

That’s literally the only difference, while Bulgarian cavalier are an affordable glass canon that play differently from both. And heck Bulgarian paladins were generic af, Persians, , Huns, Spanish and Magyars are already there for that.

Not really. Bulgarian cavalier is just a barely better mounted Konnik that doesnt spawn another unit

I dont think theres any reason to go for them beyond early imp

Whats the problem with taht when we already have tons of civs with FU champions or arbs?

That’s the point, you have to transition into the UU to remain good, while with paladins you just keep making the knight line.

Because champions and arbs aren’t an “ultimate unit” like paladins or siege onagers are. And even then, let’s be real, it’s like thinking Magyars could get picked for their arbs when Japanese or Vikings are better at using no bonus arbs.

You Joking right? Bulgarian Cavalier attacks faster than any other land unit in the game at a scary 1,3 ROF, also they essentially deal higher DPS than even Lithuanian Paladin with 4 relics.
And people wanted Stirrups at Krepost lol

Considering armour the DPS is around 8,1damage/s compared to 7,2 damage/s from the Elite Konnik. Lithuanian Paladins w/4 relics deal more than that at 9 damage/s and Leitis deal 11,2 damage/s

Just a reminder Bulgarians havent had paladin for quite some time.

I’m pretty sure everyone was fully aware

I know. I feel like the change was meant to buff the mid game but the civ really doesnt need it as much anymore (it still helps them ofc)

Now that Malians have been nerfed into being aversge , doesnt it make sense to make their late game at least a bit better?

They’re late game has been buffed. They get longer lasting gold so they can afford to spam gold units for longer and the bonus also helps when your defending in castle age since the third gold spawns very far away now. You can defend with just your main gold pile for much longer

Even with the late game extra gold Bukgarians do what Malians do but better

They only do cavalier better maybe. Malians have arbalest. Bombard cannon against siege and strong camels. Also overall better infantry. Bulgarians THS will die to aztec, teuton, japanese infantry where as malians have gbetos to compliment their champions. Arbs and camels work well against konniks, double gold unit but hey you get the longer lasting gold. So Malians have a pretty good answer for most of what Bulgarians can do. On top of that malians are better early game. So I don’t see how Bulgarians can do everything better than malians they’re my most played civ and I’ve never struggled much against Bulgarians

they’re not really that comparable… they have strengths in different areas which helps them more in certain match ups… for example bulgarian lack of BBC really hurts their siege + infantry combo, because they just get deleted by BBC

malians poor arb is still a faster power spike than bulgarians slow burn but ultimately better HCA

farimba camels are some of the best camels because they counter more things than other camels do, due to their high dps… having access to camels is a big plus due to having a more mobile anti cav platform than bulgarians halbs…

bagains makes 2hs swordsman better in fights where they are generally good anyway, but malians +3P makes far more of an impact because it nullifies one of infantry’s hardest counters…

so i dont think you can make such a simple argument

bulgarians are definitely more user friendly, but similar to the chinese, malians power goes up with elo…
