I understand that they have emotions and that they might know they went a bit overboard. I understand how frustrating it must be. I just love the AoE series so much and I have emotions too … so I get frustrated when people say the devs don’t care about the series I love so much when to me the evidence is the opposite and it’s totally normal for some people to have issues! It’s not impossible to make the majority happy but it is possible to please everybody and it upsets me when a loud minority acts like the game is ruined or the devs don’t care just because they have issues. So I guess I’m frustrated too! We’re all human!
I think saying that the devs have forgotten their fans and that they only care about a quick cash grab is closer to trashing than to constructive criticism.
Fair point
It is worse
Despite that I agree it needed to be delayed, it still broke HD’s max player record on its release date
The OP seemed to not have much faith in the devs actually helping him and the thread seemed to be more an excuse to complain about how awful he thinks they are rather than to get actual help. This is my issue. If you want help you would indeed give more details and not just go straight from saying you cant’ run it and soem others can’t aswell to saying that the devs only care about a quick cash grab and that they’ve forgotten their fans. It just doesn’t seem like constructive criticsm or genuinely asking for help … the thread seems more like a bait thread. That’s the problem I have. If you want help from somebody you don’t start by telling them how awful they are … you start by giving them the information they need to actually help you. And if the devs are struggling to help you it doesn’t mean they aren’t trying or that they only care about money or have forgotten their fans. They’ve helped many other people and they’re clearly doing their best.
Wow awesome! I’m so glad that so many people are playing it already.
When I was in teh beta I was worried and I thought it neerded to be delayed too! My PC struggled to run it on the lowest settings … but after release my PC can run it decently on ultra! (I just turn it down low when the battles get really big) … whereas on the beta just a few days before it launched it would crash on ultra!
Like … I understand that some people still have performance issues. But it’s not the case that they haven’t’ optimized it a lot more in the last few days. Maybe not everybody notices but some of us do. Personally I’m extremely impressed that just in a few days I went from barely being able to run the game at all on the lowest settings in the beta … to being able to run it decently on ultra!
My experience is that they pretty much trippled my PCs FPS levels within just a few days. And I don’t even have a very good PC.
So the issue seems to be just that it’s difficult for them to optimize the game for so many different types of rigs and some people will get unlucky until they optimize it even further. It’s the unfortunate thing about reworking a 20 year old engine to work on modern pcs with modern graphics.
And Ch3ssNa, it is indeed the case that games are released earlier nowadays … and they get more optimized after release. Especially multiplayer PC games. It’s also already been delayed once and the game is actually playable for the majority of people and they’re still working on it to optimize it for everybody as much as they can.
I didn’t say “so stop complaining” I said that if you’re going to complain then give criticism that is constructive or actually allows the devs to help you rather than just telling them that they’re useless, that they don’t care about their fans and that they only care about a quick cash grab.
Turn UHD off, parts of the game are being loaded/paged to the HDD due to lack of RAM which slows the game down.
Man, you are lucky.
Your FPS and config if you don’t mind?
Now the benchmark Score without UHD is 986
It used to be 1037 with UHD yesterday
And without UHD 1045
Now I get 40FPS as opposed to 120FPS yesterday
Yes i agree on that. The game don’t look/feel like a quick cash grab, just a little lazy in some parts of the execution.
Yes, it is adviced to only use UHD if the game is installed on a SSD/M.2 nvme drive, and with a lot of RAM (16GB for campaigns, 32GB for online). Without UHD, you can just install the game on a HDD and run ultra 1080p on 8GB RAM, provided none of the hardware is providing a bottleneck somewhere.
Also UHD seems to cause the FPS to drop somewhat later in the game.
I am btw up to 120-160 FPS on Ultra 1080p in campaigns. Which is frankly over the top given a refresh rate of only 60Hz, but it does feel good.
Which is not fair. It should get a better performance on HDD and 16GB ram
In your case I think it’s a couple of smaller things:
-Your CPU is a laptop one, meaning it is fairly down on clockspeed (2.8Ghz). It’s not terrible, especially because it can turbo up to 3.8Ghz. I’d try to find something to cool your laptop so it can run turbo for extended periods of time.
-Your RAM might also cause a bottle neck should its speed be down. In my experience, the amount of RAM is less of a concern to the RAM speed. Unless you are using UHD. In that case 16GB might neither be enough.
-Lastly, a HDD will cause a bottleneck on load times. It will cause even more problems directly on the FPS if the pagefile is being used on the HDD (which is basically using the HDD as RAM. Terrible RAM).
Sure
I can give you my specs and FPS
I can’t run the enhanced graphics because my graphics card can’t cope. by “ultra” I just mean the ultra settings minus the ehnanced graphics cap.
Right now, if I jump into standard random map arabia game against the AI and leave my units idle then my FPS is currently 48 on ultra with everything including bloom (which I personally normally turn off).
It’s not high but it’s good for my rig because it doesn’t even meet the recommended requirements and on the beta I barely reached 20 FPS on the low settings.
On the lowest settings … that my PC can actually properly run I get 86 FPS if I leave my units idle on a random map game if I just start it and leave my units idle.
My ranked benchmark test score is currenly 1122 on the lowest settings and 1079 on the highest (ultra) settings.
Here are my specs:
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 18362) (18362.19h1_release.190318-1202)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: FUJITSU
System Model: CELSIUS H730
BIOS: Phoenix BIOS SC-T v2.1 (type: BIOS)
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 32768MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 32650MB RAM
Page File: 6119MB used, 31393MB available
Card name: NVIDIA Quadro K2100M
Considering the fact that my graphics card is significantly worse than what’s recommended (much slower than a GTX 650) … it’s really not that bad!
Not only that … but I may indeed have 8 cores but the game is only running on one of them! I can get all this with just 2.8ghz.
The only thing that my PC is doing really well on is ram … as 8 GB is recommended and I have 32 GB of ram. i’m okay in ram.
Oh, I should point out that I do have a SDD.
2 things I have to mention here.
-Your GPU doesn’t matter all too much. Maybe it becomes a problem should you try to run 4K, but at 1080p I don’t think graphics are a relevant point of concern.
-Your CPU can turbo boost up to 3.8Ghz. Depending on how long it can hold on to that turbo boost, your CPU might infact be better than my i5-6500.
Couple of questions:
-HDD or SSD? EDIT: ok SSD
-Ram Speed?
I know I have 32 GB of ram … I’m using DXdiag, though … where do I find my ram’s speed?
Will likely be DDR3-1600 on an i7-4810.
When you have 32GB, not an issue. I think the CPU might be the part holding you back, despite your thoughts on the GPU
Usually in the BIOS or at the back of the RAM sticks; CPU-Z can show it as well. I pulled up the specs in the meanwhile. It is 1600Mhz, which might explain why your FPS is not going higher.
Yeah, I just checked it in task manager and it’s 1600mhz.
I got this PC for £500, though. It’s all I could afford. It came out in 2014 … but it’s refurbished and hence the 32 GB ram and stuff.
