Is anyone else having as much trouble with the 'magical cannons' as I am?

If you’re meaning specific god powers/resource trickle that kind of exists already for aoe2.

What “infinite resources” implies however is that this is just how resources work on the map, which is wrong. Trees, deer, gold, and farms can be depleted in AoM as well.
Edit: fish apparently are infinite.

Yeah didn’t even want to bring AoM up, after all different series, despite the majority of core mechanics and design principles being very close to AoE series.

AoE II is a legendary game, but when viewed from the year 2021 by younger generations - it probably looks archaic, outdated and not super-attractive. Despite being very easy to learn and approach. It’s sad but with RTS games being where they are today - classic game like that may look like a relic from a bygone era.
I wish evey AoE game had even a fraction of FIFA or CoD player numbers.

RTS were and still are good. The problem is they are not ‘cool’ anymore. No kid will brag about his build order when his friends are discussing new superhero in Fortnite or whatever.

I’m 42-years-old and played AoE2 since it was released in 1999. It’s archaic to me. AoM is affirmatively in the AoE franchise, as is AoEO. I understand AoE2 players have high opinions of their very fine game, but here at AoE4, there’s many communities with lots of experience with how the AoE formula works.

AoM’s infinite resources come from farms and market caravans, not god powers.

Yeah it is in many ways, that’s why I often call it ‘classic’ RTS game. And there is both market for them and their never versions.
But I honestly still don’t know what Devs want IV to be.

I need to rewatch all interviews to see what they say about what AoE IV ought to be. What they are iming for, what are the sales expectations, place among all other games in the series.
It’s a weird place - IIs time period, IIIs 3D, mechanics somewhere inbetween.

Marketing is all over the place, like it’s an expansion and not brand new title. I feel it has just a fraction of buzz aroudn it compared to like new TW games. Or Humankind even (its 4X, but still strategy).
Showing some history live videos or dev design small talk feels like something that takes place 1 year before release, not two months.
There should’ve dropped if it was ready, long gameplay that would capture the imagination and create pre-release hype.

I’m asking third time - please point to where I made dumb assumptions earlier. Because I only asked about IVs eco. You seem to be wrong about few things while calling call other user’s posts ‘dumb’ because you don’t like them or their arguments.

Fair, its been a while since i’ve played aom. I recall certain resources being finite but not the ones being infinite. What I was thinking of was God powers like the plenty vault.

No offense, but that’s nonsense.

There is no Age of Empires 2, only Age of Kings (AoK) and its expansion Age of Conquerors (AoC). I mean, it’s definitely obvious that Age of Kings is not a sequel to Age of Empires (1), but a spin-off title focused on European medieval ages.

All AoE games are AoE games. AoE, AoE2, AoM, AoE3, AoEO and AoE4. If you want spin-offs, look at the mobile games, or NDS games.

I’ve not seen any interview where the devs answer this kind of question at the level that we discuss it here on this forum among pretty experienced players of the franchise. Respectfully, the interviews mostly seem to be held at a more generalized level by an interviewer speaking from a place with a strong understanding of gaming and perhaps the rts community, but they aren’t rolling up their sleeves with probing questions about where on earth all the great ideas from other age games went.

“Tell me, in your deep study of Age of Mythology in preparing to develop AoE4, why did you elect to remove unique units triggered by the choices you make when aging up — why did you decide to devolve the franchise in that aspect, and what aspects of AoEO do you consider worthy of carrying forward?”

That stuff never gets asked. Instead it’s all softball questions about motion-captured horses or how two unique units is mind blowingly asymmetric.

Haa, those caravan of age of empire 2, loved it.

I was actualy hoping to build road and railroad in age of empire 3.

To transport goods, resourcess and units, whit hand cart, caravan and train.

Was sad when i see them fixed on land, but at least, they where there.

I hope to be able to build road in age of empire 4, to get my troop faster to enemy base or to trade faster whit ally.

Can’t tell what i seen in beta, sadly.
(Walking on egg’s, again)

Yeah they are very safe interviews. More like a filler to check out on a list than real content for fans.
To be fair ‘common’ people watching like Gamescom probably are not a target for deep, hard issues. This community is - that’s why I’m still hyped for survey response because it was a suprisingly well made.

And because they are not hardcore RTS fans they need something exciting, like some awesome, dynamic gameplay from start to finish. But they didn’t get that either which is just a missed opportunity to take advantage of all these eyes pointed on Gamescom and other places.

I feel bad for the marketing team, 1st beta ended rust recently to be honest.
20 years ago they would’ve been already printing boxes for the game and… um I’m not a native speaker - ‘extrude cds’ is probably not a right term. ‘Print’ them? You know, use empty cds to transfer data on them :stuck_out_tongue:

The digital market is awesome, but it completely deregulated the development process. Damn AoE and HALO from Microsoft have content cut and delayed post-launch.

Roads (as an optional infrastructure, not automatic like in Settlers or mandatory like in Tropico game) are awesome.
Just like caravans, priest, surgeons, mercenaries etc. they are just a tool that can be used by players and give more depth to the gameplay. Or ignored.
They’ve added walls that can be manned, so roads aren’t that far from it imho

Building permanent things like roads makes the world more believable and deepens the strategy of base-building, atmosphere and other things. It’s an investment (that can snowball and quickly pay off and tip the scales or just give a big boost to economy and warfare) and a risk (enemies can use roads too when they take control of that area).

Also it would make mining stone more attractive. It wouldn’t be just used for mostly defensive structures, but something that leads to eco boost, helps with rushing etc.

We were playing an outdated build of the game during the beta, so many issues we addressed were irrelevant before we even began. Along similar lines, I’d expect the launch version to be wrapped up weeks before late October. I don’t expect we will ever see their survey responses, unless that was promised somewhere I didn’t see. They gain nothing by telling us what we all said.

it was actually :frowning: I can dm it to you if you’d like (since you were also in beta).

Oh cool. But did they promise a written narrated review or the actual hard data? The latter is what people here seem to suggest they are expecting, while the former can selectively highlight certain things and bury other complaints they aren’t fixing.

Umm I wouldn’t be so sure of that. There hasn’t been any evidence that is the case.

There’s also no evidence that the Mongol pasture costs anything to keep making sheep, and no evidence that deep fish run out, etc…

From what we know … Yep, perfectly worded

Omg I loved to spam that thing with cheats

I had fun playing age2 I’m 1999 played some years, when I saw “competitive” game play my interest in game went down… Castles throwing arrows to other castles, towers doing the same, pros only using one type of unit etc… some people believe those mechanics are awesome I believe those are obsolete… AOM is the best age game IMO

Apart from the relic, that is wrong. The feitoria was added in the african kingdoms expansion. Infinite fish traps (now removed) came later in Rise of the Rajas. AOM and AOE3 existed long before all this.

For how much you throw your opinions around as facts in every possible topic here, you really don’t think twice about your own words, do you?

The existence of a Feitoria is not an opinion.
I don’t care about how recent an addition it is, it is in the current version of the game.

You’re really grasping at straws to disprove me.

You disprove yourself by formulating stuff this loosely, while at the same time apply even worse and nitpicky analysis to other peoples comments.
