I played 3 ranked games today, however when trying to play an unranked game my lobby is empty. This is extremely frustrating. I have validated my files, I have done the benchmark test again, I have even just joined another ranked game to make sure I could.
I also cannot make a game myself, the load icon next to the lobby name just keeps going.

I have two steam accounts, one I can see games in the lobby, the other I can not. 4 days later I am still getting this error.
I’m sorry to hear that it’s still happening! I can’t see from the screenshots so just to double check, do you have crossplay enabled for both versions of the game?
It would also be helpful to know if you’ve tried signing out and back into Xbox Live along with the steps in our help section.

Cross network is enabled, game is updated correctly. i have no lobby games.
Also i see all countries in red (lag) only 3 are green, rest red.

We had the same issue for a while (and still do). Most lobbies we created were not visible, making invites the only option for joining.
However, we experienced that when creating a lobby after unticking the “allow spectators” check box, lobbies ended up visible much more often (all the time?), so this might be worth trying for those affected.
This is super infuriating! The world is in lockdown, and we’re essentially not able to play AoE2:DE.
I’ve had a long, stressful week working from home (not as great for me as it might be for others) and i just want to be able to relax with some aoe, but can’t. There’s hardly any lobbies that are visible/joinable.
Please, someone at least recognise that this is an issue!
Yes me and my friend are experiencing this too. We love aoe it’s a childhood game but these problems are becoming irritating.
Yep, also happening for me and a mate. Pretty much no lobbies, and our hosted ones aren’t visible. Host switching when someone did a ragequit also failed and disconnected us from a game.
Hi is anyone else have this problem. This happens sometimes but it has become very irritating. Me and my create lobbies but they do appear on the lobby browser meaning no one knows we have a lobby and can’t join us. We have it set as public and nothing. I seen there was a maintenance update yesterday and I was relieved thinking it was going to fix this but nothing has changed.
I and my friend can’t find any playable unranked lobbies for aoe 2 DE right now. (since around 2 weeks) The only thing that works more or less are the ranked games but sitting 5min around waiting for a game issnt optimal. When I create a lobby my friend can’t see it (were even on the same network) and no one is able to join unless we invite him. Furthermore, we can only see around 5 loobies and 50 people try to join them at the same time. Interestingly the servers for aoe 2 2013 are working just fine. Please devs fix this issue it really shouldn’t be that hard to have stable servers in 2020.

Make sure that your game is up to date, last build is 35584. And also enable the crossplay at the settings menu.
Team games are on the 4~8 mins time wait range, this is expected. The 1v1s playlists that are the most populated.
Hi dededoritos. My game is up to date and crossplay is activated by default. The problem is not just with me, all people I talk to report a similar issue. Maybe its just the European servers. Were located in Switzerland.
Did you gave a try logging off from the Xbox account ingame? It’s worth a shot.
I bought the game on steam so im connected throu that and not xbox. So I dont think thats the issue
It’s a global problem. I live in Brazil and have the same issue. I was playing a 4x4 game a few minutes ago when suddenly everyone got disconnected. Now all games and servers have red pings and we can’t connet.
This kind of problem with the servers is happening VERY OFTEN by these days… We demand a solution!
Even playing through steam, there’s a Microsoft Account connection at the game main menu, it’s not necessary to play online, but the login grants a few things such as permission to publish mods. Again, it’s worth a try either loggin on or off to see if something changes, this has been the fix for some simmilar cases.
