Yes, the idea would be the Galeazza for the Venetians and the Stradiot for the Albanians (since in Age of Empires 3 the Stradiot speak Albanian)… but if they don’t include the Albanians for some reason (either because the Balkan DLC only includes Croats, Serbs, and Vlacs), then it could be a Venetian civilization with the Galeazza from the Dock and the Stradiot from the Castle…
Marines?but the name sounds too modern.
Maybe this?
The cernide or cernida (also known as the cranide in Dalmatia) were territorial armies of the Veneto and Istria that annually received some military training. The name cernida derives from the fact that the one or two young men were chosen (cf. Italian: cernere ‘to choose, select’) for every ten from among the young men resident in these areas.[1]
These units could thus be mobilized quickly, unlike the army, which was slower to recruit and slower moving. They were formed of soldiers on annual service, with an obligation to gather for brief training periods four times a year, and accounted in total for about 30,000 men.
“Venetian army of the Italian Wars: Cernida, Stradiotto and Arsenalotto”
Well, Marinai is what I proposed originally for the Venetian UU. If issue is that it sounds modern then we have to remove terms such as infantry and cavalry in game as well due to these terms still being used to designate troop types to this day.
You would have to be realistic, Venetians do probably have a higher chance of being added as a civ than Albanians, and seeing that Venice owned and had influence from Albanians, it is the best shot at getting representation
This is a term for marine?Me being from south asia this word sounds very different to me.this is an insult in tamil language
.
After Armenians being added I still believe Albanians have a chance of being added.
P.S: Varangians now prove it more than ever.
In Venetian it is Marine but Fanti da Mar is sea infantry.
Another Euro Civ Idea
I am not about to argue with you relating to this. However if I am to provide my two cents then I wouldn’t say Armenians or Varangians being added somehow proves that Albanians are particularly likely or that they have greater historical relevance. Albanians certainly have legitimate medieval material, but their strongest and most recognizable case for an AoE2 civ is concentrated particularly in the later medieval period.
There was the Principality of Arbanon from around 1190, followed later by various Albanian-ruled principalities as Byzantine and Serbian authority fragmented. Then of course there is the major period everyone immediately thinks of - Skanderbeg and the League of Lezhë from 1444, with the Albanian nobles uniting militarily against the Ottomans.
Personally, I would actually love to see Skanderbeg campaign material. He is an excellent AoE2 character and his wars are almost tailor-made for campaign scenarios. He could potentially also feature in a scenario within a broader Serbian campaign, considering how interconnected the late-medieval Balkans were, although obviously his own story is distinctly Albanian.
And I’m certainly not saying Albanians should never become a civ. Perhaps they should be added further down the line. In fact, if we were talking about a hypothetical four-civ Balkan DLC, my own choices would probably be Vlachs, Venetians, Serbs and Albanians.
What I definitely would not do is prioritize a civilization slot for Croatians over those, regardless of how heavily they have been advocated for on this forum. I simply don’t think there is the same historical anchorage for a distinct AoE2 civilization there. Medieval Croatia certainly existed and has history worth representing, but when I’m deciding which peoples/political-military traditions most justify one of a very limited number of new civilization slots, Vlachs, Serbs and Albanians all present stronger cases to me, while Venice is obviously one of the major missing medieval powers.
So I’m not dismissing Albanians at all. I just don’t think “Armenians were added” or especially “Varangians were added” somehow proves their case. They should be judged on their own medieval history - and there is enough there that I could absolutely see them being added eventually.
A grounded approach would be romanians gets added dracula campaign gets reworked turks and magyars gets own campaigns and all three gets interconnected like the dotd campaigns.but then again would people buy a dlc with one new civi?
It would be kinda bland without Serbs and Albanians with their connection with Turks and Magyars since Skanderbeg had his interaction with Matthias Corvinus (also Dracula aswell)
Vlachs to represent both Wallachians and Moldavians, Venetians, and Serbs. Possibly Albanians. I have also as you know very well by now proposed Slav split to Muscovites, Ruthenians, Novgorod/Novgorodians. This could potentially make room for the current in game Slavs to be reserved as an umbrella for South Slav civs outside of the historically focused ones that I have mentioned.
I dont think slavs will get split or renamed due to real world events.
Yes but that is politically correct cowardice by the devs if that be the case.
The developers obviously keep overlooking the Austrians. Just look at AoE III: the game covers a period during which the Austrian Empire was a great power and a major player in European politics. I honestly don’t understand how Austria could be left out.
An Austrian civilization would also make a lot of sense in AoE II, covering the period from the Babenbergs to the early Habsburgs. Austria became even more influential after the Middle Ages, but it was already highly relevant during the medieval period. By the Late Middle Ages, the Austrian Habsburgs were providing Holy Roman Emperors.
Actuelle the Reislaufer are the swiss pikemen, so a swiss arquebusier as second unit would be more accurate.
Landsknecht is not specially Habsburg, but it repends on what you’re calling “Habsburg”, if you’re thinking of Austria then nop it’s not for them, it’s for the German “Holy Roman Empire with an Archduke of Austria as leader”.
Druzhinnk and Boyar are kinda the same thing if I’m not mistaken, just that Boyar was more a think like “Lord” (a nobelity title) rather than a fighting unit style.
Venetian Galley. Galleass should be a Regional unit, it wasn’t unique to them.
I really don’t want an Euro DLC so soon after another Euro DLC. I don’t want another LotW+DotD situation.
I wonder if it’s the case in other Romance languages as well?
In Portuguese, Slav is Eslavo and Slave is Escravo.
Speaking of which, I find it really funny how the devs seem to really not want to add more civs to the Central Euro set. Even though pretty much everyone says Bohemians should have gone there and not on the East Euro set. And now it’s gonna be almost as unused as the Meso and Central Asian sets, since Vikings are getting moved to the new set.
Guaranis didn’t not exist before that war started. People in the AoE community should seriously stop acting as if Native Americans didn’t exist until they interacted with Europeans.
The Byzantines are misrepresented. They were politically Roman but culturally Greek Orthodox.
I really wish the devs would add Greek voice lines foe them already. And some Italian dialect for Italians. I don’t know why they insist on keeping Latin for these two. Aztecs and Goths need new voice lines as well.
People in the AoE community should seriously stop acting as if Native Americans didn’t exist until they interacted with Europeans.
same for African but total agreement
UU: Placeholder Name - Torch throwing infantry. Deals some minor bonus damage vs buildings siege and ships and sets them on fire. This fire does minimal damage but for the duration any repairs done are done slower without cost reduction to compensate meaning full restoration.
I guess you’ll have to think up something else, given one of the new civs (forgot which) has a torch-throwing infantry.
A grounded approach would be romanians gets added dracula campaign gets reworked turks and magyars gets own campaigns and all three gets interconnected like the dotd campaigns.but then again would people buy a dlc with one new civi?
Since the DLCs are getting more expensive anyway, they could at least add more campaigns per DLC. Like for example, a DLC with Romanians/Vlachs/Wallachians and 2 other civs, and 6 campaigns (one for each of the new civs other than Wallachians, and the other four go to older civs).

I didn’t know you were Tamil.

True that
I guess you’ll have to think up something else, given one of the new civs (forgot which) has a torch-throwing infantry.
I had a few concepts. Cavalry whose short range torch burns buildings causing a very minor Burn that hinders the enemy’s ability to repair things that can be repaired.
Or it’s like the Keshik of Tarkans worse at Tarkaning but generates some resources
I may be a little fixed in this repair crippling debuff effect which reminds me of the bat riders of wc3 whose burn could disable repairs for a few seconds which might be too extreme
