My Proposed Changes for the upcoming balance patch

At least we got a hotfix this month.

The HC are already inaccesible enough. No please, don’t do this to them.

HC deserve major buffs now, since years. Let them have it at last.

Could not agree more with increased movement speed for the militia line.
They are hard countered by archers (which does not make sense to me) and they should be able to catch up to them. Their main flaw is the movement speed for sure.

Sure it makes sense for them to be countered by archers. Who wins? The dude on foot with an axe/sword/spear or the guy who can shoot arrows from far away?

If archers didn’t beat infantry, what would their role be? They dont beat cavalry thats for sure.

@TheGreatStew
Even with 1.0 speed, Archers will easily beat Infantry. 1.0 speed to Millitia line is needed for other purposes in reality, for them to be able to actually catch up and attack any units!!
So you got the solution right, but the reasoning wrong.

that would make UUs like Jaguars and Samurais even less enticing, I thought you wanted to make them more viable?

Ofcourse! That is in this topic

-10 Food for all Infantry UUs at the very least
And then some more buffs to the ones really struggling like TK, Condos, Shotels, Jags and Samurais

And yes, I don’t think buffing Jags will make Aztecs OP
BECAUSE (insert drum roll)

doesn’t change what I said, buffing militia line’s main weakness will make castle UUs less worth as investment

So vikings and celts use their unique units. Youre telling me reducing the food cost by 10 of the berserk and woad isn’t a buff to those civs?

You have a strange idea of what is and isn’t a buff. One that literally conflicts with the history of rts and balance

If you put archers against infantry equipped with good armor and shields, I think it’s very hard for archers to kill them (real scenario of archers vs men at arms). Archers were really effective as support units, combined with for example infantry, but I don’t think sending out an army of only foot archers would be very effective.

Archers should deal more damage overall than infantry since they don’t have to relocate for every kill, but require protection from infantry or cavalry to be effective. Foot archers being viable on their own has always been strange to me. I would much rather see army composition matter than the “rock paper scissors” system we currently have.

Basically what I want to see is infantry being strong enough so it’s a bad idea to run right into them with cavalry, and foot archers not being able to kite them. Faster infantry and/or slower archers would be fine by me. A bit more thiccness to the militia line would not hurt either. Then we could also get rid of the supply tech, which I don’t think solves any real issues, but that’s another topic!

For infantry to be buffed that much they would need a trash counter

Personally, I don’t think a trash counter is necessary since there are many other counters to them (mangonels and hand cannoneers), but yes the militia line being more viable could definitely require some other tweaks for them to be balanced. I don’t disagree with that.

It is if youre making them trade more effectively against archers and cavalry.

Screw Tatars then because that’s the main reason you’d want to build a castle with tatars in castle age. That just makes them outshine tatars in an area where tatars are supposed to be good
If anything, add a small buff to scout line attack or buff their camels. Keep in mind they already get free upgrades for hussars

Hard agree, the goth balancing last patches was so arbitrary and they were fine with the 35% from feudal from hd

Hard agree, Leitis is broken as hell

Not really needed. They still flatten skirms and spears

Outside of non-upgraded militia, they do this perfectly without a bonus. There doesn’t need to be a damage bonus for a every counter unit, swordsmen slaughter scout cav line easily and eagle warriors

I do not like as well the idea of tatar UT as a Turk civ bonus. Still it is clear that Turks need some sort of buff.

Imo, if you wanna buff the scout line, you may give to hussar (not to scouts) an armor bonus (similar to catas) to reduce the halab damage.

But I would like to see a gold bonus for turks, something allowing them to use gold units in the later sages. For instance, one of the following:

  • a gold trickle
  • scorpions return their gold cost (which is much weaker than a trashpion)

you mean besides Keshik, who are insanely good?

yes but its literally carrying the civ right now. they need counterbuffs to keep them decent.

Keshiks are good at raiding (a niche that light cav with silk armor is better at), not in pitched fights. Their stats are pretty modest, they have less armor than a knight, and the gold you spend on them is better put into cav archers or just cutting the line and committing to knights. You can argue making them against archers instead of knights but theyre awful vs pikemen which anyone playing safe would have mixed in with their archers.

Regardless that doesn’t address that the suggestion gives turks silk armor for free for no real reason - Turks have arguably the best heavy cav archers in the game (i personally consider magyars, but its a contested subject) with sipahi, and adding free pierce armor onto their free light cav upgrades is an unnecessary power buff - which ca and light cav is the tatar’s main attraction. You can buff turks but just giving them another civ’s bonus is not the way to do it.

Not even remotely true, I never understand why people are so hard insisting that Lithuanians are low tier. They’re strong as hell. They can go monk siege pikes like nobodys business with their monastery bonus and trash unit bonus, they have the best knights in the game once you get like 2 relics, if you dont feel like getting relics and need to fight other knights you can choose between your 20% faster pikemen and your anti-armor leitis which i still consider to be arguably the strongest unique unit in the game per it’s niche as a paladin killer. Their starting food bonus helps with any build you would want to go for and makes it REALLY easy to drush fc or go fast feudal for scouts. The last few times I played lithuanians I went drush fc xbows into knights and dominated in castle age.

This isn’t even mentioning their unique tech which gives them impeccable defensive options. They can do basically anything and have few weaknesses. Their eco bonus doesn’t last long but it’s impactful and it balances with how insane their military can be in imperial age. Most of the time that I can remember I don’t even make leitises when I win with lithuanians.

To say that Leitises are carrying the civ is a vast overstatement. I’d go as far to say you could swap out their unique unit with something like a boyar and it’d barely make a difference.

If I were to buff turks I would make their camels attack faster.

I dislike changing a civ’s identify but pikeman and elite skirmisher would be better i think

Ok what would be the historical basis of that, also Turks never were known by their camels
