Real artists should be roasted if their art is so terrible it looks like AI.
Which detectors did you use? Because I highly doubt that.
We’ve already demonstrated odd characteristics that make it most likely AI.
Such as?
It’s lazy, and AI art is inherently unethical. Plus, manmade art is just so much better when done professionally.
Either the “artists” are so lazy that they use AI and pass it off as their own work, or they are so incompetent that they can’t make art that looks believable.
Yes.
It looks nothing like the in-game units. Completely different style.
I see it as some fans being out of pocket and being hyper critical over things, but if you want to go out of your way to call them a terrible artist that’s your prerogative.
Keep in mind a lot of your critiques are entirely unsubstantiated, most of it relies on your own disbelief. They stated it wasn’t AI generated, you are casting doubt on them and claiming they are lying without any kind of proof. I just get tired of people using these forums as a soapbox to foment a baseless accusation against people who are very forthcoming on their process.
That doesn’t mean anything. This is the same company that lied about the content of the latest AoE2 DLC. They have a reputation for dishonesty, so I choose to believe my own eyes over their words.
They could be simply unaware of what their employees do, so they might not be lying, but there is considerable evidence that the artwork is not man-made.
If you knew anything about AI art, you wouldn’t be calling it baseless. The artwork looks very sketchy when you examine it more than just a cursory glance. And other companies have been using AI to replace real artists, so this is a genuine concern.
Have they posted a video showing the process of the artwork being made? No? Then they aren’t forthcoming. In fact, I would describe the Age of Empires devs in general as anything but forthcoming. There wouldn’t be so much speculation otherwise.
No, they didn’t lie about V&V. Also, due to Steam’s new regulations, publishers have to add a disclaimer on the store page whether AI was used or not, otherwise Valve removes that game and I’m not seeing that disclaimer for Retold.
Why are you even on this forum if you’re so vitriolic about the devs? Boohoo, it may or may not be AI art, at the end of the day who cares? They’ll be mods to get the old art back if they don’t dlc it in the future. If this is getting your knickers in such a twist, don’t buy the game and write a letter of complaint to Microsoft calling them lazy liars to their face instead of being a keyboard warrior. I feel I speak for the majority here when I say chill out or just don’t buy the game, and lets turn this discussion back to general thoughts, pros, cons and ideas about the new Age Up UI instead of hammering the devs trying to deliver us a game we all loved.
You aren’t really giving any valid reasonings. Just writing ‘Her arm is fine’, when they would clearly reach her calves, doesn’t magically fix the proportion. Shadows that make intricated design into just 2 plain strings? Especially when the decoration are directly on the main focus of the picture? Just wear a dress and slightly move your leg upwards. Because everything else of the bracelet is the same? Look what you are even writing to justify them. ‘Why would the bracelets be the same’, lol?
I think in comparison to the original the new art is a huge upgrade. Not only in definition, but also that Bastet looks more like an african wild cat. It’s also an animal whose arm length (front legs) matches their leg length (back legs), something that would be expressed by having long slender limbs. Not that the new design has arms of odd proportion, arms typically go to the mid thigh when in a resting position.
On the UI itself, compared to this:
They seem to be highlighting the qualities of each choice more effectively, have a better color composition, and fade out gameplay to give it a more ‘cinematic’ feel. It’s looking like a good remaster so far!
To give an example here, WE ARE FOOTBALL 2024 (a soccer manager) uses AI generated images for generic players (mostly youth players the game generates at the beginning of a new season), thus this disclaimer has been added to the store page:
Neither are you, honestly. To me it seems like you’re just trying to convince yourself the art is AI generated so you can justify why you hate it so much. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it was created by AI.
I justified all with images that show exactly what I am talking about, mistakes in the pictures that no professional artist would make, but an AI that doesn’t have concepts of things, often do. Your justifications are just ‘no it isn’t, i am right’. That is like toddlers reasoning.
Are you a professional artist? I appreciate that this line of questioning is often in bad faith, but I don’t see any way around you claiming that your personal opinion is at that level of quality.
You seem to be pointing out mistakes or inconsistencies and using it as evidence that it’s bad. But there are plenty of reasons why any professional would make a mistake or omission, and it’s a fun fact of games development that this tends to happen more than any developer would like.
Maybe if they knew the Internet would obsess over their skill, insult their competence and claim their art is so bad it “must be AI”, they’d ask management to get more time to polish it up. Who knows
