New DLC! Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition – The Last Chieftains

The units look like they belong in Aoe 1, not Aoe 2.

Is it me or are these screenshots blurry.

Very blurry around the edges. Probably a deliberate filter applied, but it looks bad to me.

Based on these descriptions, I’d say Kona and Temple Guard sound gimmicky, in the sense that I don’t think those mechanics will affect how you use the unit.

The Blackwood Archer is arguably gimmicky, because it’s not much different from giving it a very fast training time. (It’s similar to zerglings and scourges in StarCraft, but there training in pairs is meaningfully different to fast training because of the larvae mechanic.)

The others don’t seem gimmicky because those mechanics will have a meaningful impact on how the unit plays. The Guecha Warrior’s ability will make groups of them more resilient to mangonels, which are usually a natural counter to ranged foot units. I’m not keen on the Bolas Warrior’s ability but it will definitely have a meaningful impact.

new building for europeen or just campagn asset for second photo ?

Honestly, the Mayans and Aztec should get a slinger too

And slingers should be reworkd to not be so opressive in fights beetwen american civs

Am I the only one that thinks for Tupi the UUs are inversed? Like the infantry should be cheaper than the archers?

probably just a campaign asset. it looks like a quickly built colonial fort. there was no announcement about changes to any of the european civs

Has other people also spotted the water snake? (Or am I crazy?)

you mean this? could be a snake, could also be a log…a dangerous gamble in real life

You are not alone (on the left part of water).

On another picture, I also noticed a crocodile. They weren’t implemented in ROR, right?

New anaconda and maybe new caiman predator animals. With a black panther/jaguar.

Also, new capybara herdable animal. New guanaco and rhea huntable animals.

New condor as well.

Love what I see. The only disappointment is that there are still no regional Villagers.

They are in RoR, with the sprite of the base game’s croc. The one seen in the screenshot doesn’t look different to me. At some point, they started renaming the Crocodile to “Alligator” in AoE2DE Skirmish under certain conditions, by the way.

I wonder whether it will be interactable in any way.

Note the tall Palisade Walls (different from the fortified variant) and improved Palisade Gates in the Tupi screenshot (could also be campaign-only):

Maybe its a palisade wall upgrade?

Could be, a palisade upgrade in lieu of stone walls.

These ones, I assume?

Those look like pillars made of pineapples.

Also, one thing I noticed yesterday and didn’t see anyone comment on is the new walls are zigzagged:

(btw why is uploading images such a struggle now?

Afaik the Tupi didn’t use stone, so it could be a unique building or (more probable) a redesign of the fortified palisade, perhaps just for them.

I check on fandom and crocodiles were added in the African Kingdoms! I’m glad to see them (Caimans…) in South America.

How did you post? 11

I can’t post any picture lately.

@RatcicleFan I created a bug for this:

feel free to add a comment. maybe this can get resolved
